Division Priorities 2018-2022

Foster growth and success for every student by supporting their journey from early learning through high school completion and beyond.Provide welcoming, high quality learning and working environments.Enhance public education through communication, engagement and partnerships.

Based on the three SMART goals that were established for 2019-2020, report on the results you achieved (with evidence, including referencing the School’s Accountability Pillarresults, if applicable) and describe how achievement of the goal supports the above Division’s Priorities that were in effect when the goal was set.

Daly Grove School staff will engage in ongoing collaborative work and professional learning targeted to support all students in both literacy and numeracy. Our goal is toincrease the overall percentage of students in the Regular program achieving at or above the acceptable standard on our Provincial Achievement Test to 80% as measuredby Student Learning Achievement on the Accountability Pillar Survey. In addition, our goal is to improve our Math PAT score to 70%. By June 2020, 85% of students in theRegular program will achieve at least three levels' growth in reading, as measured by the Fountas and Pinnell reading levels and/or the BAS, through the intentional use ofvaried reading strategies. - We will continue with a Collaborative Response Model (CRM). We will continue to engage in conversations to respond to individual student needs. Collaborative meetingswill be held weekly whereby 0.28 teachers' fte has been created to cover classes and release teachers. Literacy and numeracy will be the focus of our conversations wherewe discuss interventions in a pyramid model. Once to twice per month, CRM time will be used as an intervention block to work with at-risk students. Grade level groups ofteachers have identified literacy and numeracy goals in their CRM time and are developing and reviewing strategies to achieve these goals that are aligned with the new TQS.- We will continue with dedicated teacher 0.5 FTE for Leveled Literacy and Middle Years Interventions. Certificated staff will continue to discuss strategies from JenniferSerravallo's books:   and  . Further PD will be provided to our new teachers in the areas of literacy and numeracy. The Reading Strategies Book The Writing Strategies Book- We will provide more opportunities for students in Division 2 to write personal narratives to improve HLAT scores.- The school will purchase diagnostic numeracy resources, and teacher PD will be provided at the Division 2 level to learn how to administer diagnostic assessments andselect appropriate intervention activities to address gaps in student understanding.

Results Achieved:  As a result of in-person instruction being shifted to on-line in March of 2020, the Provincial Achievement Tests were cancelled.  This comparison is,therefore, not available to judge growth in mathematics or reading. Teacher professional judgement was used to assess reading levels for students at the end of June,2020. Students reading at or above grade level were 71.8% in May of 2019. In May of 2020, 61.6% were reading at or above grade level.  This marked decrease is indicativeof the shift to emergency remote teaching brought about by the pandemic. The September 2019 MIPI results reported that 69% of students obtained 60% or higher on thismathematics assessment. In September 2020, 64% of students achieved 60% or higher on the MIPI.

Daly Grove School will enrich the development of leadership traits in students and staff. We will continue to provide high quality learning and working environments asevidenced by our Citizenship results on the Accountability Pillar Survey. These results will be 90% or higher. Results on the Accountability Pillar for Safe and Caring will be90% or higher, as well. - The books   and  will set the themes for the school this year to help build school community. The themes of kindness and will beExtra Yarn I Am Human  Be The Nice Kidwoven throughout all subject areas. Students will have school-wide opportunities for leadership. School language will be focused on kindness wherever possible.- Student leaders run and narrate our bi-monthly assemblies which will highlight students who demonstrate leadership and will focus on a character trait. - The music teacher will offer small group mental health drumming sessions to support students' mental health. - Strategies to support students with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) will be discussed at every staff meeting. Grades 5 & 6 teachers and administration will betrained in the Brain Story Mental Health certification.- Staff will be provided PD to improve their ability to support children with Autism and to learn strategies to welcome our new Interactions program into the Daly Grovecommunity of learners. The students in the Interactions program will have opportunities to participate with students in the Regular program through a buddy system.

Results Achieved:  Daly Grove's Citizenship and Safe and Caring schools, met the goal of 90% or higher as evidenced on the Accountability Pillar Survey. The strategieslisted were successful in reinforcing kind and respectful behaviours in our students.   The mental health focus also contributed to the school's welcoming, high quality learningand working environment of Daly Grove School.

Daly Grove School will increase staff, student and parent awareness of available community and District partnerships. Parental satisfaction with the level of their involvementwill be 90% or above on Parental Involvement on the Accountability Pillar Survey.Communication: We will increase the number of families using SchoolZone. The principal will post a weekly update on SchoolZone every Friday. Families are strongly

encouraged to use SchoolZone to pay school fees. Engagement: All students will continue to have school and home access to the following web-based programs: RazKids, Reading A - Z and Mathletics. Students who go onextended vacations will be encouraged, if possible, to use this software. Partnerships: We will continue our strong partnership with ATB Bank and the Edmonton Immigrant Services Association. We will continue to focus on physical literacy with thelead teacher highlighting schedules, lesson plans, tips and residencies at our monthly Teachers' PD meetings. Volunteers, study buddies and T. D. Baker student volunteerswill continue to support at-risk students.

Results Achieved: We are very fortunate to have our parent community involved with Daly Grove School.  We will continue to welcome parent involvement and will increaseefforts to improve this area reflected in the Accountability Pillar Survey. The ATB bank, Edmonton Immigrant Services Association and T.D. Baker student volunteers weresuccessful and valued partners.

What were the biggest challenges encountered in 2019/20? The sudden halt of in-person instruction and subsequent shift to on-line learning.  This transition made student engagement difficult because of the knowledge required tosupport technology.  Staying connected as a staff and to our community was also a challenge. Staff morale was tested as a result of the lack of in-person relationships withstudents, parents and colleagues.  Student learning, in general, was greatly impacted by this pivot to emergency remote learning.  As well, the Division Feedback Survey andProvincial Achievement tests were not administered, therefore, this data will not be available to guide practice.

What was most important for your school community as you prepared for the 2020-2021 school year? Communicating re-entry plans to our families.  Connecting with families and building relationships while still maintaining protocols to mitigate the risk of COVID. Navigatingboth on-line and in-person choice for families and instruction for teachers.  Identifying and implementing targetted strategies to support growth for students in literacy andnumeracy having been away from in-person learning since March of 2020.  Supporting mental health of students, families and staff was also important when preparing for the2020-2021 school year.  As well, creating and maintaining one school culture when students and staff are either on-line or in-person.
