Behavior Support is a process for teaching children appropriate
behavior and providing the supports necessary to sustain that
behavior. PBIS is not a curriculum - it is a framework for systems
to identify needs, develop strategies, and evaluate practice toward
success Why a School-wide Approach?
It reduces challenging student behavior through a proactive,
positive, and consistent manner across all school settings and
Improves academic achievement and social competence Offers a
proactive rather than reactive approach to addressing student
behavior Research does support improved academic achievement and
student social skills in schools that take a consistent, positive,
and proactive approach in addressing behavior Giffen PBIS Mission

Expectations Giffen identified 3 overarching expectations which
reflect the needs of the school community. The expectations are
stated briefly and in a positive manner. They address: Respect
Responsibility Safety Expected behaviors are visible in all areas
of the school community
Posters have been created and are posted throughout the school. 80%
Positive Students need to maintain an 80% daily average for
positive behavior Teachers can use classdojo or tracking forms to
assist Teachers needs to enter points 10xs each day for a total of
30 points. Teachers decide when to give out their points based on
their classes need. 80% Positive Students need to receive 24/30
points to have an 80% positive If a student falls below an 80%,
their behavior needs to be tracked in VADIRS.Teachers must input
their students data. VADIRS is used for student data in No Referral
Parties 80% Positive VADIRS

UN: schooladdress PW: albanycsd Classdojo - Over the Summer The
PBIS team worked really hard to make sure that everything was done
so PBIS can run smoothly right from the beginning of the school
year. A packet has been created for each of you as a guide to help
you get started. The Packet PBIS faculty/parent handbook (mission
statement, matrix, t-chart, definitions, etc.) Lesson plans for
teaching each area of the matrix Blank quick office referral forms
(VADIRS will be filled out later by teacher) The Packet Laminated
matrix for lanyard (help with common language)
We Are tickets to give out to students who demonstrate safe,
responsible, or respectful Postcards to send home to students who
demonstrate the 3 Bs The Packet Blank copies of the attendance and
behavior sheet if you want students to track their own
behavior/attendance We Are Tickets We Are tickets can be given to
any student that you see demonstrating the 3 Bs starting Wednesday,
September 10th Use specific matrix language to reinforce Students
will place these tickets in a container/box in the classroom.By the
end of Thursday each week, a student can empty container in
designated spot in office. One student per grade level will be
announced on Friday morning announcements. Postcards Send home to
students in your homeroom class who demonstrate the 3 Bs. Help to
reinforce a positive learning environment. Expectations &
behavioral skills are taught & recognized in natural
context
During the 1st full week of school, classes will participate in
field trips. All classes, on a designated day, will visit each area
stated on the matrix.A teacher will specifically teach the students
about that area using the language of the matrix. Classroom
teachers will follow-up with lessons on their own using the matrix
language to help reinforce positive expectations. Recognize
Appropriate Behaviors
Once appropriate behaviors have been introduced and taught, they
need to be recognized on a regular basis. Student Recognition at
Giffen
Recognition of good decision-making and achievements on the part of
students and adults goes far in helping one develop positive
self-worth and motivation to achieve. The staff at Giffen
Elementary will strive to recognize positive behavior and
achievement on an on-going basis. In addition to verbal praise,
children will be recognized in a variety of ways throughout the
school year. Acknowledgements Natural success thanks We Are

Responding to negative behavior Immediate and consistent Try to
keep with natural consequences Use the least amount necessary to
get desired behavior Pre-plan and teach Correction and re-teaching
Use only with reinforcement for replacement behavior Should defeat
function of problem behavior Some Corrective
Consequences:Maintaining Desired/Expected Student Behavior
Redirection Planned ignoring Re-teaching Time-out Behavior
