Classroom Dynamics

• Teacher stays in the classroom and the students move. Students only move within their Year level. The four core teachers are a constant and specialist teachers vary. Students do not move long distances, just down one corridor. So, 4 core and 2 specialist teachers.

• Teachers noted that this opportunity to get up and move is beneficial to student learning and focus.

• Teacher has opportunity to decorate and configure classroom space.

Staffing

• Good position as the College was able to grow into itself……therefore, time to ‘tap’ people on the shoulder, advertised for Middle School teachers, allow for a mix of teacher backgrounds, look for people who will do the job.

• Hand selecting the right people. The Year 7 team comprised of a Prep trained teacher, two upper primary teachers and a senior secondary teacher.

• These people formulated the structure and allowed it to work and grow.

• Structure first, then pedagogy.
