School Reports Students will receive their half-yearly reports on Thursday afternoon. Providing a summary of student achievement across all curriculum areas, the reports indicate not only the level of attainment, but also the effort students have applied, and the next steps for further success. Taking the time to sit with your child and discuss the report together, is a very powerful way of affirming achievements and identifying goals for the second half of the year. Awabakal Excursion “I’m so excited I could explode,” Marley said to me on Tuesday morning as she boarded the bus. “Normally when I’m excited, I get a bit shaky,” said Jasper, “but today I’m so excited, I’m shaking on the inside.” School excursions provide a great way of enriching the learning experience for students. The excursion to the Awabakal Environmental Centre includes a bush tucker nature trail, scavenger hunt, learning about traditional tools and weapons, and activities with clapping sticks. School Uniform Students have been coming to school well-presented and well-dressed, since the recent adjustments to the school uniform policy. This week, our Year 6 students have looked very smart in their new Year 6 shirts. The Year 6 shirts can be worn any day except on sports days. Students who do not have the correct uniform items should come with a note from their parent/carer indicating the reason for the non-uniform item. Finally As another school term draws to a close, I would like to commend our students for their excellent academic application, citizenship and behaviour. We are very proud of our school values at Floraville, and they are consistently demonstrated by our students in the classroom and around the school. I would also like to thank our teachers, support staff and administrative staff for their ongoing work, providing excellence and equity in education. Schools are often regarded as the hub for community activity and engagement, and I have been particularly mindful of this over the past few weeks. In this regard, I would like to thank the broader school community for the support, care and concern shown during a difficult time. Floraville Public School has an outstanding reputation in the local area, for which our students, staff and community can all take credit. It is a reputation, established over many years by those who have come before us, and it is a reputation, for which we take ownership today. Coming to work each day, I feel both the privilege and responsibility of holding the position of principal at such a fine local public school. Simon Mulready Principal

This week’s virtue is ORDERLINESS: Orderliness is being neat and living with a sense of harmony. You are organized, and you know where things are when you need them. Solve problems step by step instead of going in circles. Order around you creates order inside you. It gives you peace of mind.

Primary Athletics Carnival What an outstanding day it was last Thursday at the annual Primary Athletics Carnival. All students put in a huge effort, with many PBs during the day. All results have been placed on the Sports Notice board. Any student that is highlighted, has achieved the qualifying times or distances for the PSSA Eastlakes Carnival [Term 3, Week 2]. Notes will be sent home early Term 3. Ribbons for the top three place getters in each event and age group will be presented in the school hall, Friday 5 July at 10:20am. Week 10 Sport As it is the last week of the term, each class will run their own sport on Friday, other than our soccer teams. Soccer will run as normal. No league and no netball. Ski Team Best of luck to our amazing students who will be competing at the 2019 Regional Interschool’s Snow Sports Championships from 9-13 July at Perisher. We’re excited to have a full FPS girls team this year with Ruby Jones, Bella Jones and Florence Saker competing in SkierX and Alpine. Lance Saker will compete individually in SkierX, Alpine and Moguls. We look forward to hearing their success stories on their return, next term. Golf Congratulations to Lachlan McDonald, Quin Fox, Mackenzie Smith and Oscar Griffiths for representing Floraville at the Hunter PSSA Primary Golf Trials. All played to the best of their ability and displayed amazing talent. Unfortunately no one progressed through to the next stage of competition. PSSA Soccer Round 4 On Monday our PSSA knockout soccer team played their round 4 match against Warners Bay Public School at Speers Point. After a slow start, we finished the game victorious, winning 7-1. We will play our round 5 game against Biddabah Public School next term, on Wednesday 24 July. Cake stall for Stevie Botham On Friday 5 July, we will be having a cake stall to support Stevie Botham of Year 6 as she will be competing at the PSSA State touch football and netball in Term 3. Year 3 students have been asked to contribute any goodies they can to sell at the cake stall. A separate note has been sent home to Year 3 students. We understand Stevie is in Year 6, however as explained on the note provided, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 have all recently donated goodies. If your child is in Year 5 and wishes to still donate, feel free! Please support the cake stall by sending your child to school with money. Goodies will range from 50c to $2. We appreciate the community’s support. The cake stall will be at 1st break and any remainder goodies left over will be sold at 2nd break. LIBRARY NEWS Book Week Celebrations and Grandparents Day – SAVE THE DATE Just another reminder that once again we will be celebrating Book Week and Grandparents Day during Term 3. Celebrations will take place on Wednesday 21 August (Week 5). Students are invited to come dressed up as their favourite book character, and participate in book and reading related activities. We are getting excited and can’t wait to celebrate with you. OTHER SCHOOL NEWS Public Speaking Competition 2019 What an exciting day we had here at Floraville on Monday! Two sessions of being entertained by interesting, informative, humorous and captivating speeches. Following weeks of preparation, 11 Infants students and 13 Primary students represented their classes in the 2019 Floraville Public Speaking Competition. Once again, teachers and parents were impressed with the overall standard of the speeches, which made the task of identifying the ‘best’ speakers extremely difficult for our adjudicator, Mrs Watson. We are proud of the efforts made by all of our students who took part in this competition, but special congratulations must go to our grade champions for 2019. Early Stage 1 – Mila Stringer & Tansy Hollis Stage 1 Year 1 – Max Ferris Stage 1 Year 2 – Imogen Highfield Stage 2 Year 3 – Liam Pietrobuono Stage 2 Year 4 – Kingston Webb Stage 3 Year 5 – Robbie Freeman Stage 3 Year 6 – Bella Jones

NCCD Data Collection Our school is once again participating in the collection of Nationally Consistent Data on School Students with Disability. Students to be included in the data collection are those who have been identified and meet the definition of disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, and are provided with an adjustment to their learning or environment. The data collection will have no direct impact on our students and they will not be involved in any testing process. We will be collecting information already available in the school about the support that is being provided to students. Data will be collated in such a way that no individual student or school will be able to be identified. In this way, we will ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all students. Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school. Earn and Learn The Earn and Learn initiative has now finished. If you have any stickers or sheets (completed or not), please return to the school by Friday 5 July, for counting.
