God Made The Sky And The Sea Genesis 1:6-8, 20-23; Revelation 4:11

Main Point - God made the sky and the sea. He filled the sky with birds, and the sea with fish and sea creatures. Introductory Activities

• Playdough - provide blue playdough and playdough cutters of things that fly in the sky (i.e. birds, butterflies) and things that swim in the sea (fish and sea creatures).

• Jigsaw puzzles - provide wooden jigsaw puzzles of things

that fly in the sky (i.e. aeroplanes, birds, butterflies).

• Felt - provide small felt boards and felt shapes of things that fly in the sky (i.e. birds, butterflies) and things that swim in the sea (fish and sea creatures).

• Hand puppets - provide birds, sea creatures and fish hand

puppets for the children to play with.

• Fishing game - provide a magnetic fishing rod and fish set for the children (these are commercially available). You can also make a set using a string attached to a long cardboard roll with a magnet on the end of the string as a fishing rod, and cardboard fish with large paper clips on each one. Note: never leave children alone with this equipment.

• Water play - Warning: never leave children unsupervised

around water. Tip water out immediately after use. Provide plastic fish/sea creatures and a large water play tray for the children to play with. You may also like to provide plastic birds for the children to fly across the sea. Ask them if they know what each sea creature or bird is called. Remind them that God made every one.

Note: class sets of these can be bought from Pre-school supply outlets. Provide collage material (mosaic squares, stickers, confetti, glitter, etc.) for the children to decorate the glasses. Glue blue cellophane across each eyehole. Attach hat elastic so that the glasses fit each child. When dry, the children can wear the glasses, which make everything look blue like the sky.

• Jellyfish - provide a small paper plate per child. Have the

children glue strips of crepe paper around the edge of the paper plate. Fold the paper plate in half and staple to create a jellyfish.

• Giant class octopus (4 year olds only) - have children take

turns in stuffing eight stocking legs full of scrunched up newspaper. Make an octopus head from papier mache (made during the week before). Children can paint the octopus head to match the stocking colour. Dry and put the octopus together during the week and present to the group the following lesson. Display by hanging from the ceiling for a few weeks. Label the octopus, God made all the octopus that live in the sea. Genesis 1:21

God Made The Sky And The Sea Genesis 1:6-8, 20-23; Revelation 4:11

The Bible tells us that in the beginning, the earth was empty. There was nothing there! Then God said, ‘Let the light come!’ And light came. God made light and God made dark. (place black and white felt on felt board) God called the dark, night. And God called the light, day. (place blue felt on top of white felt) Then God filled the day sky and he filled the night sky. God put the sun in the day sky. (place sun on blue felt) God put the moon in the night sky. (place moon on black felt) He put the stars in the night sky as well. (place stars on black felt) But God didn’t stop there. God said, ‘Let the sky come!’ (point to the blue felt) And a beautiful blue sky came. And God said, ‘Let the sea come!’ (place dark blue wavy felt on opposite side to blue sky) And an amazing sea came. Then God filled the sky and sea. I’ve got some birds, fish and sea creatures here and I want you to help me fill the sky and sea. You need to decide if they live in the sky or in the sea. (select children to come and select a shape and put it in the sky or the sea) God made the sky and filled it with birds of all shapes and sizes. God made the sea and filled it with fish and amazing sea creatures. (point to felt board as you say this) God looked at the sky and sea, he looked at the birds, fish and sea creatures, and God was happy with what he’d made. Everything he’d made was good!

Noah And The Flood Genesis 6-9

I need your help in telling this story. I need you to help me make the sound of rain. (practise rain sound - one finger tap on hand, then two finger tap, three…four…, five… then stop). Now to our story. The story of Noah is famous. Everyone loves the story because it’s a rescue story. Noah, his family and all the animals are saved from a big flood. But the story of Noah is a very sad story. It begins with God being very, very sad. When God looked down on the earth he’d made he was sad. People fought and hit. People yelled and screamed. People hated each other and people hated God. God was sad that he had made people. So God decided to send a flood and get rid of all the anger and pain. But one man made God happy. His name was Noah. Noah loved and trusted God. One day God told Noah what to do. Noah was told to build a big boat. A boat so big that animals of every kind could fit inside. A boat so big that Noah and all his family would be safe inside. Noah believed God. Noah trusted God. Even though there was not a cloud in the sky, Noah built a big, big boat. When the boat was ready… (pause) God sent animals to Noah. Noah stepped out of the boat. And what do you think turned up? (select two children and place rabbit ears on them) There, standing in front of Noah was Mr and Mrs Rabbit. So Mr and Mrs Rabbit got onto the boat.

But still the boat was not full. Again God sent animals to Noah. Noah stepped out of the boat. And what do you think turned up? (select two children and place lion masks on them) There, standing in front of Noah was Mr and Mrs Lion. So Mr and Mrs Lion got onto the boat. But still the boat was not full. Again God sent animals to Noah. Noah stepped out of the boat. And what do you think turned up? (select two children and place elephant masks on them) There, standing in front of Noah was Mr and Mrs Elephant. So Mr and Mrs Elephant got onto the boat. But still the boat was not full. (continue with as many children as you have masks or ears for, then conclude with…) Till finally the boat was full! Then God shut the door of the boat and it began to rain (indicate to audience by tapping fingers on hand to make the rain sound with you). It rained and rained and rained and rained. The water went up and up and up and up. It covered the houses, the hills and the mountains. But Noah and his family and all the animals were safe inside the boat. For forty days and nights it rained. But one day it stopped raining (indicate to audience to stop tapping). The sun came out. And the water dried up. Then Noah and his family got off the boat. Mr and Mrs Rabbit (take rabbit ears off children and have them return to seats) got off the boat. Mr and Mrs Lion (take lion masks off children and have them return to seats) got off the boat.

Mr and Mrs Elephant (take elephant masks off children and have them return to seats) got off the boat. (continue until all animals are ‘off’ the boat) Then Noah and his family thanked God for saving them. God said he’d never flood the whole earth like that ever again. He put a beautiful rainbow in the sky to show that he would always keep this promise. (pause) Children, the people were doing bad things to each other and it made God sad. God couldn’t simply ignore their badness. That’s why he sent the flood. The good news is that God is kind and saves people. God saved Noah and the animals from the flood. God chose to save us by having Jesus die on the cross. When Jesus died on the cross, he was being punished for the bad things we do. The bad things we do make God sad and he will punish us for them. But if we trust in Jesus, God saves us by letting Jesus get punished instead.

The Flood Genesis 6-9

And what do you think turned up? There, standing in front of Noah was Mr and Mrs Cow. So Mr and Mrs Cow got onto the boat. But still the boat was not full. Till finally the boat was full!
