School Profile 2017/2018

Sekolah Pelita Harapan Sentul City is an international Christian School located in Sentul City, a suburb south of Jakarta, Indonesia. SPH offers educational programs

for students ages 4 to 18.The current student population is 305 in grades Kindergarten through 12. In the senior school area (grade 6-12) there are around 30 students at

each grade level (per August 2017). Admission into SPH is selective. Nearly 100% of our graduates enter universities.

SPH Sentul City is committed to offering

a highly recognized world wide curriculum

utilizing the International Baccalaureate

programs: Primary Years, Middle Years

and Diploma program. To compliment the

academic programs other curriculum offerings

are provided to complete the holistic education

of the school.

Curriculum: International Baccalaureate

Organization (IBO)

Primary Years Program (PYP) : At the heart of

the PYP is a commitment to structured inquiry

as a vehicle for learning. Six organizing themes

help teachers and children explore knowledge

in the broadest sense of the word. Teachers

and students use key questions that are

concept-based to structure the units of inquiry.

They acquire and apply transdisciplinary skills

while developing an understanding of these

important concepts.

Middle Year Program (MYP)): The International

Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP)

is designed for students aged 11 to 16 or

Grade 6 to 10. The curriculum contains eight

subject groups together with a core made up

of the important aspects of MYP program:

approaches to teaching, approaching to

learning (ATL), concept and global context.

Diploma Program: The Diploma Program is a

course of studies taken in the last two years of

High School. It covers a broad curriculum and

provides a demanding pre-university course of

studies with an examination at the end of the

2 year program. The program is designed for

highly motivated students who are interested in

attending an overseas university.

Co-Curricular activities available on

Campus:

Sekolah Pelita Harapan Sentul City offers a

range of co-curricular activities, such as Music

Activities, Praise & Worship Team, English

Club, and Sport Activities.

Student Support Services available on

Campus:

Career Counseling: The Career Counseling

team is here to coach their students by

focusing on their talents, interests and values,

in order to identify their best career fit in the

future and to avoid the expense of a wrong

major choice and the anxiety that follows.

Differentiation: The teachers are encouraged to

differentiate their teaching learning process to

meet the student needs. This approach must

be written on the teachers’ unit planners.

Summer Program: To make the transition

time more straight-forward, we provide the

induction programs in Summer Program and

activity times for new students which consists

of self- management, affective, writing,

thinking and research skills

Academic Tutor: These tutorials are provided

for the students who need support for some

subjects such as Mathematics, Science,

English and Indonesian Language.

Mid Quarter Report: In general, all students will

receive 4 report cards, however for struggling

students in Senior School, they may receive

additional 2 Report Cards: mid quarter 2 and 4

report cards from which the students, parents

and teachers are able to monitor the students

academic progress and develop some

strategies to support the students.

Intervention Program: Working together with

the parents, the school creates an intervention

program to help certain students as needed.

The parent cooperation is the most important

aspect for the success of the intervention

program.

Pastoral Care: SPH Sentul City also provides a

pastoral program for students, both at school

and at the boarding house or Pelita Harapan

House (PHH). This pastoral program helps

the students growing in their spiritual and

psychological aspects.

Personal Counselling: The school also

provides personal counseling for all students.

Those who struggle in their academic

development are encouraged to have

counseling sessions with the professional

counselor to find the best solution. In some

cases, the academic struggles do not directly

link with academic life at school. The counselor

would help students by finding out the unseen

aspects of difficulties and discovering the

solution. The main goal is to assist students to

be able to achieve their best, in all aspects of

their growth as a person, from a Biblical basis

of Christian values and Godly teaching

Accreditation and Membership:

Accreditation: IBO (International Baccalaureate

Organization) for PYP, MYP and DP.

Membership: Western Association of

Schools and Colleges (WASC - on process

2016-2017), the Association of Christian

Schools International (ACSI) and Council

In Sekolah Pelita Harapan Sentul, during the

Physical and Health Education (PHE) lessons, the

students are learning different kinds of sports

to ensure the students know the foundation of

each sport such as soccer, basketball, swimming,

tennis, badminton, athletics, softball, hockey.

In additional to that, the component of health is

also important for developing the healthy body

and soul. Besides the PHE classes, some sport

programs are offerred to school during the activity

and after-school time.

P H Y S I C A L E D U C A T I O N

Visual Arts Programs: In Junior School or

PYP, the visual art programe is usually being

part of holistic teaching and learning process or

Transdicipline Learning (TDL). In MYP and DP,

there is a Visual Art class offered to the students.

Music Programs: Besides having the Music

classes for JS and MYP, the students are able to

join a variety of music program during activity or

after- school activity such as the piano, guitar,

violin, kolintang, hand bell, angklung, bombo band

and choir.

A Student Council is a representative structure

for students, through which they can become

involved in the affairs of the school, including

working in partnership with school management,

staff and parents for the benefit of the school

and its students. In SPH Sentul City, the Student

Council consists mostly of grade 11, as well as

grade 10 and 9. It is responsible for celebration

activities throughout the year, worship jams,

house team activities, external competitions and

festivals, service learning opportunities, and

constantly working to make our community an

engaging fellowship, based in our holistic and

spiritual values.

Among SPH schools, only SPH Sentul has

a boarding house which we name it Pelita

Harapan House (PHH). Staying at PHH

may make a lot of changes at the children’s

lives since they are expected to be more

independent, tolerant, empathy.

As a Christ-centered community, SPH students

take a bible class each year and attend chapel

each week. Each student also complete student

mission project each year as part of the passing

requirements. In Junior school, each Grade

takes turn to lead the chapel while in Senior

school, the chapel formats are divided into three

different activities: Combined Chapel for grade

6-12 and the Two-groups Chapel when students

are divided into groups of grade 6-9 and grade

10-12 students. The last is the cell-group

activity. This cell group activity is very important

in building close relationships among students

and teachers. Yet the most important aspect

of it is to cater students’ crucial questions, not

only relating to Bible understanding or spiritual

development but also personal questions.
