School of Real Estate and Land Management

Diploma / BSc (Hons) Real Estate Valuation

This course is for those employed within the real estate

profession seeking to make an immediate impact

on their career and prepare for the professional and

management challenges of tomorrow. The first four

modules are available for registration.

Practical learning for the real world

• The RAU is recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in the delivery of teaching, research and consultancy.

• Courses are accredited by the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation.

• Course content covers the complete spectrum of property markets.

The Royal Agricultural University (RAU),

established in 1845, is recognised nationally

and internationally as a leader in the delivery of

teaching, research and consultancy. The RAU’s

School of Real Estate and Land Management

has a long and enviable reputation as a

supplier of education and training for the land

and property professions. Employers hold

our courses in high regard, and the Institute

of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (IRRV)

has accredited the Diploma for entry at IRRV

Diploma membership and BSc (Hons) for

IRRV Honours membership – the RAU is the

only university to hold this accreditation.

The course will give you the skills you need,

offering a unique insight into the nature of

property and property interests, together

with an understanding of the mechanics of

the property market. You will be given the

opportunity to examine the complexities of

the market for a wide range of property types,

including commercial, residential, industrial,

retail, leisure and recreational property.

Teaching and learning will focus on

the valuation, acquisition, sale, letting,

development and management of property

interests, and the relevant law and

practice underpinning these functions.

Tailored learning for your future – focused on the individualThose in employment study for a number of

reasons and with different goals in mind. This

is a vocational course offering ways to tailor

your studies to broaden areas of knowledge

that are relevant to your career development,

meet your specific goals and shape your future:

• Choice – You can study towards a

Diploma in Higher Education or continue

to complete a BSc Honours qualification,

while continuing to work. The Diploma can

be completed in three years – or you can

take up to six years. The Honours Degree

can be completed in four and a half years

– or you can take up to eight years.

• Personal focus – Academic and support

staff within the School will strive to ensure

that your experience at the RAU will be

academically fulfilling, personally and

professionally rewarding and, above all,

enjoyable. The single most important point

of contact for advice and support will be

your Personal Tutor. Whilst the word ‘Tutor’

suggests an academic teacher, at the RAU

it also means someone who has oversight

of your personal and pastoral well-being,

so if you have any concerns, be they

personal or academic, your Personal Tutor

would be the first person you contact.

• Tailored learning – You will choose two

elective modules at Level 6 focused on

key areas of valuation. This means you

can tailor your learning to fit your career,

your organisation and your future.

• Specialist study – Elective modules

change regularly to reflect the latest

developments within the profession.

• Flexibility – More than one intake per

year provides you with the flexibility

to begin the programme when it suits

your business and personal lifestyle.

• Collaboration – Learning is

enhanced when staff and groups of

students share their knowledge and

experiences of the profession.

• Real business – You will have the

opportunity to take on several projects

supported by major employers. These will

include a secured lending valuation of land

and buildings and an integrated project

where different subject areas are studied

and examined within a single report.

The tools, skills and knowledge

Getting to grips with real challengesWe place great emphasis on preparing you

for the challenges you’ll face in the real world.

Accordingly, we make sure our courses are

connected to today’s business issues. We

invite experts from industry and professional

bodies as part of our successful guest speaker

programme, providing you with valuable insight

as well as regular networking opportunities.

Working better togetherWe offer a truly supportive environment and

are here to help you achieve your goals.

We take the time to get to know you, and

give you the support you need to ensure

that the HE Diploma / BSc (Hons) Degree is

an invaluable investment for your career.

We regularly review our courses to ensure

they meet both current and future professional

demands and can be effectively applied in the

real world. The course is delivered by experts

from different fields some of whom teach

part-time while also holding senior positions

within a practice or in the public sector –

enhancing the overall learning experience.

We encourage collaboration at every

opportunity, with staff and students

sharing knowledge and experience of their

business worlds. You’ll learn through group

and individual presentations, student-led

seminar groups, case studies, experiential

learning, role play and business simulations.

Assessment is a mix of examinations,

class work, case study analysis and written

coursework. The case study material

gradually becomes more complex and

challenging as the course progresses.

This dynamic, innovative learning

creates an environment that is varied,

enjoyable and hugely effective.

Each intake of the course comprises four

modules of study. For the award of HE

required to successfully complete 16 modules.

For the award of BSc (Hons) Real Estate

As this is a privately-funded course, students

are not eligible for SFE tuition fee loans.
