ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIESA number of workshops and presentations are offered at SOLE.Topics range and are determined by student interest.  Previoustopics have included mental health and wellness strategies, cookingdemonstrations and understanding rights in the workplace.  SOLEalso has a number of extra-curricular activities for studentinvolvement.  Participation is encouraged.   

SPECIAL EDUCATIONSpecial Education students are welcome.  At SOLE, the learningenvironment is one that honours diversity and multiple learningstyles.  Courses are taught in a manner where student needs areupheld and respected, and student voice is valued.  We have anItinerant Resource Teacher on staff that works closely with studentswho have learning needs.  

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULESOLE features a flexible schedule with an out-of-school componentfor each class.  We also offer E-learning (taught by SOLE teachers)and encourage other opportunities such as Dual Credit and SWAC.

CO-CURRICULARGay Straight Alliance, chess club, drama trips,weight room, soccer,basketball, baseball, and rugby - arrangements can be made forstudents to continue to participate with their teams at their formerschools, providing that their marks and attendance are satisfactory.

Student Life - Where You Belong

We welcome motivated students.  Our program developstime management skills, discipline and personalaccountability. These are skills that students will use for therest of their lives.  Our alternative timetable is set up so that students haveflexibility in their learning. Access to a computer and theInternet is required for your out-of-school work. Every student has full-service guidance support to completetheir college and university applications and help in theirscholarship searches. Students should take advantage ofour excellent workshops to help navigate the university andcollege application process. We offer career counselling andassistance in resume writing. TDSB allows our full-time students to join local high schoolteams under certain circumstances.  Students play hockey,soccer, baseball and rugby. Our students love our two-lanebowling alley, located in the school.  In addition, we offertrips to Stratford and other experiential learningopportunities in the world of art, advertsing and film.

What Sets Us Apart

We incorporate blended learning into all of our classrooms and offer up-to-date film and digital imagingtechnology in our media/communications technology courses.  Our courses are interactive and dynamic.Graduates who go on to college or university return to tell us how well prepared they wereacademically; they tell us that our program put them a year ahead of their classmates. We are deeplyinvolved in the university and college careers of our students, serving as mentors beyond high school. At SOLE we are proud of our high rates of University and College acceptance. Our small size, and theclose relationship we develop with students and parents, make our graduation events a powerfulexperience.

Parent and Community Engagement

Humanity is our community, and we live it here.  We often dofundraisers and community awareness projects that extend learningbeyond the classroom and into the real world.  We focus on socialjustice, equity and diversity.  We work in partnership with students and parents to ensure studentsuccess at SOLE.  We welcome parental input in our SchoolAdvisory Council.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
