• Continuation in your profession to complete a degree programme, it doesn’t mean that you have to leave your current job.

100% Online Certificate Courses in Health Education, 16 weeksSHE Certificate Courses in Health Education In between the Advanced Focus Courses and the MHPE programme, a programme of Certificate Courses in Health Professions Education has been introduced. All certificate Courses can be followed as a MHPE track that can be used as an exemption for a unit in the MHPE programme.

Five Certificate Courses are provided:• Curriculum Development • Assessment and Evaluation• Educational Management and Leadership • Work-Place Based Learning• Educational Research

“The MHPE has opened my eyes to aspects of my everyday work.”It enabled me to seize new opportunities and to initiate projects, and it made me more aware of my skills (and my limits) as an educator. The MHPE is not only about “you” being a better educator, but is more about motivating and leading others toward evidence-guided changes in medical education. Not only do you gain the knowledge in education, but also you experience how to communicate and justify your ideas.

Alexandre LafleurGeneral internist and educator for competency training and assessment of residency programmes at Université Laval, Canada

“As a surgeon, I have been trained as a clinician, but lacked knowledge on several aspects of education.”The Certificate course was an excellent starting point for me, as a clinician, to find out that an online course is highly educative and can be combined with my busy clinical work and family life. As I wanted to expand my theoretical and practical skills in education. However, as a busy clinician with a family of three children, I was wondering if I could fit a master programme into my busy daily schedule. Therefore I applied for the certificate course, educational management and leadership. This certificate course gave me the opportunity to see if the course met my expectations with respect to the content, time management and the online format of learning. As a result, I decided to start the MHPE programme. I entered the MHPE and can recommend both the certificate course and the entire MHPE programme to anyone interested in learning various aspects of health profession education.

“Valuable introduction course that inspired me.”This interactive summer course gave an introduction to health professions education and informed the participants about all aspects of PBL and curriculum innovation as applied at Maastricht University. It will help me a lot in my work as member of the curriculum committee of a medicine programme responsible for developing a curriculum based on a student centered educational concept. My participation in the course helped me to acquire the knowledge and tools that will empower me to contribute to educational innovation at my institution.

“Great professional interaction and networking opportunity”I had the opportunity to to participate in the course of Assessment of Professional Competence led by Professor van der Vleuten. The course was based on journal clubs, short lectures, interviews and many workshops. The staff acted as true role models for us by justifying the pace and the contents of the course according to our learning needs. Our informal discussions will have a great impact on my future work. This course gave me an opportunity to networking with educational activists, which is valuable also for my employer, the University of Helsinki

Leila Niemi-MurolaAssociate professor, clinical lecturer, consultant and anaesthesiologist University of Helsinki and Helsinki University Hospital, Finland

“I cannot think of a better place in the world to take the next steps in my professional development in this area than the PhD programme at SHE.”I am a pediatric emergency medicine physician from the United States. I have been interested in medical education since early in my medical training and beginning the PhD programme with SHE was a large counter-balancing factor for me. Coming full circle, I decided to leave my role as an associate programme director to pursue a PhD because I was feeling like residency leaders often do not have the time to contribute to meaningful scholarship that moves the field forward. Rather, they look to the excellent work done by medical education researchers at places such as SHE. I crave thinking, reading, investigating, and writing about how we can innovate and improve medical education. I desire a career that is marked by this work.
