The Distinguished Teachers in Residence Program at California
State University San Marcos is an innovative program designed to
ensure collaborative relationships between area school districts and the
CSUSM School of Education.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
• hold a valid California Teaching Credential within the K-12 grades;
• have a minimum of 5-years teaching experience with your current participating DTiR Consortium District
• have demonstrated excellence in teaching full-time in a classroom in the past 5 years and are currently classified by the school district as a teacher
• have CLAD/BCLAD • have a Master’s degree
You are eligible for selection as a Distinguished Teacher in Residence if you:

• TEACH a full load of classes related to the credential program

• SUPERVISE teacher candidates during their Clinical Practice

• PARTICIPATE actively in committees within the School of Education. DTiRs are regarded as full members of the SOE Governance Community Council and the DTiR Committee.
• RESIDENCY is a 2-year term.

APPLICANT GUIDELINES FOR 2017-2019 DTIR SEARCH
APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR SUBMISSION
STEP 1 – APPLICATION PREPARATION
1a. Prepare and combine (in order listed) the following items into one (1) PDF • Cover letter • Professional resume • DTiR Application• Two (2) current letters of professional reference (one
of which must be from a current or previous supervisor)
1b. Combine the following items into one (1) PDF• Copy of college/university transcripts showing grades
and degree(s) awarded• Copy of credentials • Copy of CLAD/BCLAD or appropriate English Learner
authorization
STEP 2 – SUBMIT YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION VIA E-MAIL
• Submit both PDF files in one (1) e-mail to [email protected]
• Subject line: Your Full Name, DTiR Application• Note: Should you find that your e-mail is too large to
submit in one transmission we will accept two (2) e-mails with one (1) PDF document attached per e-mail.
STEP 3 - DISTRICT APPROVAL FORM
• Complete, sign and date the District Application Approval Form
• Schedule an appointment if needed with your DTiR Program District Representative Office (see list). Please make certain you allow time for this step.
• Your district representative’s office is responsible for submitting the “District Approval Form”.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
• Deadline to submit application is by 5 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2017
• The application is located at the Distinguished Teachers in Residence Program webpage.
• The application is a Word document fill-in form.
• DTiR Application ADDENDUM – Teaching Areas of Expertise: Review courses in the CSUSM 2016-2018 catalog description.
• Scan application and documents into two PDF files.
• DISTRICT APPROVAL FORM. This form certifies your district is aware of your application and that you meet eligibility requirements.
• These guidelines are included with the application.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED?
• This is a collaborative process.
• Applications are screened by the committee and participating districts.
• Candidates are selected for interviews, which will be held in late April. (All applicants will be notified at this point whether they are selected to move forward or not.)
• After interview process, both the district and university approves of the selected candidate.
• The new DTiR is announced in May.
