From the Principal….. Dear Parents, This week we sent home 100 surveys to randomly selected families. These annual surveys provide us with valuable information to assist us in mapping the areas in our school that are finding success and those that require further attention. If you received a package this week, please take the time to complete the survey to support our future planning. Your confidential responses will be collated and presented along with those of our staff and students. This feedback is taken very seriously so please respond as accurately as you can. I have had the great fortune of spending the last three days with our Year Four children at Camp Goodenough. It was fantastic to watch our children challenge themselves to achieve both personal and group goals as they engaged in the various activities that had been prepared for them on camp. Our Year 4 boys and girls represented our school proudly, displaying our SFX values by supporting and encouraging each other to meet some seriously nerve-racking challenges. A big thank you goes to Ms Egan, Mrs Fitz and Mrs Howie for giving of their time to support our children in this invaluable experience. Well done Year 4 Team on a great effort! We held our Kinder 2020 Information night on Tuesday this week and saw a nice number of new families in attendance. Matt and I will commence interviews for all Kinder 2020 children next week. If you have a child ready for Kinder next year who you have not yet registered for an interview, please contact the school office as soon as possible to make an appointment. Additionally, if you know of any respectable families who might be interested in enrolling a child in our school for 2020, please encourage them to make an appointment via the school office. Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 children will engage in the 2019 NAPLAN assessments. This year we will be completing all assessments online with the exception of the Year 3 writing test. In addition to more localised assessment data, our NAPLAN data assists us in making important decisions about learning in our school. is a valuable resource that provides both generalised information about whole-school initiatives and specific

information about each individual student. Whilst I do not wish to overwhelm our participating students by

building up any hype about the assessments, I do wish them all the very best for next week.

Have a great week,

From the Assistant Principal

This week during my visit with Year 5 I had the pleasure of seeing the students complete the final stage of

their buddy writing task. This was a purposeful task giving the Year 5

students a specific real life target audience. It also increased student

engagement and effort to want to do a great job for their special Year 1

friend. Sienna explains below how they organised the task. Well done to

the teachers and students for such a wonderful literacy task that made our

Year 1 buddies smile.

From Sienna in Year 5:

In Term 1, Year 5 had a writing assignment to write their buddy a story

of things they like. Year 5 could come up with anything they liked, and

then share it with their buddy. The students had 3-4 days to write their

story and publish it and make it colourful. After they finished their

writing they would then read it to their buddy and give it to them to keep.

Yesterday we held our very first Mother’s Day Expo. What a fantastic day it was, with a variety of stalls,

activities, workshops, a homemade morning tea and an Indian lunch provided by Bombay Wala. Organising

a day such as this requires a massive amount of effort to

put together. Lyn O’Neill came up with the idea last term

and has worked tirelessly with a team of volunteers to

make the day a success. Thank you Lyn and everyone else

from the local community involved who donated their

time and resources. Don’t forget this Monday, 13th May

we will be having another special event for mums with our

Mother’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy.
