Let’s Celebrate Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I can do it! What a great positive statement.
Sometimes we doubt ourselves or find ourselves challenged by
new things. This week in Junior Devotion, we talked about how
with determination and God’s help we can give things our best go.
How not giving up helps us to persevere and do our best. To not
be sad and discouraged but keep on trying.
Keep on going and don’t give up!
Sunday Night Life – Sunday 9th of June
All families are invited to come along and share in this devotional
time, as our Year 4W students explore the theme “The Life of St
Paul”. This service will be held on Sunday, the 9th of June, at
5pm, in the School Hall. Please bring a plate of food to share for a
time of fellowship after the service.
Year 4 Camp Currimundi Our Year 4 students spent three days at Camp Currimundi last week. While it was a little brisk in the mornings,
the days were glorious. The students were involved in team challenges, boogie boarding, archery, caving, indoor
rock climbing, the giant swing, free time on the beach, movie and games nights.
The caving activity was challenging to say the least, students (and some teachers and parents) had a go at
crawling, sliding and squeezing their way around a series of very tight tunnels modelled on a real cave
system. The giant swing pushed all children to their limits. They all did very well and were very brave.
Free Dress Day Next Friday, the 14th of June will be a free dress day to support of our school Relay for Life Teams. The theme
for Relay for Life this year is ‘Purple Power’, so come along dressed in something purple (optional). Please bring
a gold coin donation and remember to wear a hat and sensible shoes (no thongs.)
Relay for Life Fundraiser – Thursday Hot Chocolate This term, students will be able to buy a Hot Chocolate to warm them up at Thursday
lunchtimes from the tuckshop for $1 per cup. This is a fundraiser for our school Relay for
Life Team and will be running until further notice.
Date Claimer: Grandparents Day - Friday, the 21st of June We are looking forward to our grandparents visiting on Friday, the 21st of June. Grandparents and members from the St John’s Congregation are welcome to join us for the morning. Our program is as follows:
9:00am – 10:30am – Grandparents visit classrooms 10:30am – 11:15am – Morning tea served at the hall 11:15am – 12:00pm – Concert 12:00pm – 12:30pm – Ball Games
Please bring a plate of morning tea, for grandparents to share. This can be left at the hall before school.
2020 Junior Secondary Information Night – Tuesday 11th June We will be holding a Junior Secondary Information Night for our Year 4, 5 and 6 parents on Tuesday, the 11th
of June, at 6pm. At this information night you will find out about the program we offer in Junior Secondary. You
will also be able to view our facilities, meet staff and ask questions. We look forward to seeing you there.
Uniform Expectations As the weather has turned cooler recently, we have noticed a number of primary and secondary students
wearing non-uniform jackets, hoodies and jumpers. It is a school expectation that students are wearing the
correct St John’s uniform at school and in public. Our uniform shop is open at the following times:
Opening hours: Monday 8:00am – 9:15am
Wednesday 8:00am – 9:15am
Thursday 2:30pm – 3:15pm
Parents are also encouraged to use the school app to order uniforms and make payment. Ordered uniforms can
either be picked up from Mrs Williams at the office, or sent home with students.
Notes will be sent to parents if your child is not wearing the correct uniform. We understand that at times uniform
items may be misplaced, wet, too small, etc., however, students need to be wearing the correct school uniform
each day as per the School Information Book 2019. If for some reason your child doesn’t wear the correct
uniform, please write a note to the class or form teacher with an explanation. Correct uniform includes plain
black, unmarked shoes with black laces. If your child receives two non-uniform notes to take home, they will be
provided with items from lost property to wear.
Our lost property baskets are overflowing with named and unnamed items. Wherever possible we endeavour to
return named items to children, but there are many items still left that are unclaimed. Please check your child
brings home all of their trackpants, jumpers and hats each day, and encourage them to check the lost property
baskets located at the hall, the library and in the undercover area near the tuckshop.
Winter Colds & Flu If students are sick, we ask parents to use their discretion about sending them to school. Many viruses are highly
contagious, and it is important that we try and stop the spread of sickness through the classrooms. Please
contact the office or use the app to advise if students are unwell.
Book Club Issue 4 Bookclub Issue 4 is due back into the school office by Monday, the 10th of June.
Secondary Snippets APEX Debating - The Year 9 team had a very close
debate against St Mary’s last Wednesday. The topic
was that the minimum age for social media should be
14 years. We were on the negative side of this debate.
The team put together solid and convincing arguments,
but were not awarded the win. The adjudicators were
split over their decision, which is an indication of how
close it was. Harry Iszlaub, Ben Springhall and Emma
Wilks put up a good fight.
This Wednesday, the 5th of June, the Year 7 & 8
students will be debating at KSHS. Year 7/8 Round 3 - Wednesday 5 June - KSHS.
Topic: That all students should have daily chores
Good luck to all teams. Students please remember to wear formal uniform and take water, a pen and spare palm
cards.

Later later cos I need
To have some tea.
Sooner or later I don’t really care.
Now go and get some fresh air.
Mack and Hack
Mack and Hack
Went to pack.
To go to some-thing shorter.
Mack had a frown.
And soaked his gown.
And Hack came tumbling after.
Four Fat Pigs
Four fat pigs
All doing the jigs.
Dancing like a wave
In a little cave.
They all fell into the great big sea.
All got stung by a little bee.
Could you ever imagine something
Like four fat pigs.
Book Review – “Children Aren’t Made of China” This week we continue to share some excerpts from Wilson McCaskill’s book “Children Aren’t Made of China.”
Chapter 6 - Control or Self-Control
“There is no control without self-control.” Wilson talks a lot about the classroom situation and how children who experience and master self-control are
calmer and more secure. The teacher’s role in the class is not so much to control the students as boss but rather
guide them through experiences and modelling to gaining self-regulation and self-control. This journey needs to
be paralleled at home for it to be effective in class. If students demonstrate self-control, they are less likely to
‘lose it’ within the classroom or playground.
School Disco The P&F are holding a school disco on Friday, the 14th of June. If there are any parents who would be able to
assist on the night for BBQ, canteen or general supervision – for either session please email your name and
preferred job to [email protected].

Building Fund Donations and Legacies As we approach the end of the financial year, there is an opportunity to make additional tax-deductible donations
to the School Building Fund. We appreciate the donations that many parents make to the Building Fund when
they pay their school fees. This has enabled us to proceed with wonderful building projects within the school
community.
Don’t forget – Additional tax-deductible contributions can be made at any time by yourself or any other family
members to support the children and future development of the school.
LLL Passbooks It is time to send away all LLL passbooks so that interest can be added to all deposit accounts. Please send any LLL

Winter Carnival This Friday, the 7th of June, our Year 4 to 6 students will be participating in the Primary Schools Winter
Carnival. This is a great opportunity for our students to compete socially against other schools. We will be
sending teams to Soccer (Kingaroy Junior Soccer fields), Netball (Taabinga SS) and Touch Football (here at St
John’s). Students will be leaving St John’s by bus at 9:00am sharp and returning by 2:30pm. Students need to
ensure they have a hat, comfortable sports shoes, sunscreen, and plenty of water and food. Canteens will be
operating at each of the venues.
Students are to wear the school polo shirt (not house shirts) but may wear black or dark sports shorts to these
events, along with sports socks and shoes. Students attending soccer need to wear shin guards. The school will
provide shin guards to those who do not have any. Soccer boots are preferable, but not essential. Touch football
