I want to thank the many members who have emailed and phoned me this past week, both to wish me well and to share their thoughts and feelings

about this difficult time for BC’s public education system. Our conversations have been extremely helpful in guiding my thinking in this volatile situation.

Earlier this week I emailed all members a letter to outline the position of the BCPVPA. I also held three telephone conference calls with the Chapter Presidents and I appreciate the remarkable participation rate and response on such a short timeline.

Our Association’s strategic plan is the guide for our actions and communications. The BCPVPA recognizes that it does not have the ability to influence either the current bargaining positions or the strategies of the government or the BCTF. We continue to encourage the parties to return to the bargaining table and negotiate an agreement.

It is our assessment that any statement by the BCPVPA would not influence the outcome of the dispute. Three of BC’s most eminent mediators have attempted to bring the parties to an agreement. Schools are closed and editorials are written, but the conflict continues. The conflict has deep historical roots and is as much about relationships between the two parties as the issues on the table.

We celebrate the importance of relationships in our work. We work and collaborate with our teacher colleagues everyday. We continue to hope for a breakthrough, but if the strike continues, we will work hard to communicate and support all BCPVPA members.

We welcome your emails and calls.

Have a great weekend, Gordon
