1-1. BECOME A REAL REMEDIAL THERAPIST @ MSQ
What is Remedial Massage Treatment / Who is Remedial Therapist?
Remedial massage is the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation,
pain and injury management. It’s performed to create favourable conditions for the body to return to normal health after injury and is defined by the premise that the
treatment can reasonably reverse certain physical effects a patient may be presenting. If a patient has suffered a moderate injury resulting in structural pain and/or
loss of function, then remediation is required to reduce or eliminate pain and restore that function. Remedial massage is designed to balance muscle/soft tissue length,
tension, tone which will in turn promote the return to normal joint/capsular/bone position; increase the flow of blood and lymph, particularly in the injured areas, thus
removing blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions resulting from injury.
A remedial therapist must have knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology to determine where to treat patients. Their services must be based on best
practice principles and before any remedial massage treatment begins, a thorough patient consultation and assessment is to be performed to ascertain the patient’s
current health status. If the patient is suitable for remedial massage and relying on the patient’s feedback to identify the areas that require attention, the therapist can
then apply the relevant and appropriate treatment.
The assessment must include the development of a specific treatment plan as to the best course of treatment for the patient’s condition/injury. This treatment plan
forms the basis of the clinical notes. The comprehensive clinical notes are taken for each consultation/treatment and that the patient’s records are duly maintained.
These notes must be consistent with accredited professional standards (and in their absence, The National Health Act) and are to be maintained in English.
It’s important for the remedial therapist to understand that a patient’s needs are unique, and therefore particular remedial massage techniques need
to be selected with clinical expertise and applied in a way that suits that patient.
[Referred from Medibank Remedial massage definition]
If you have particular muscle tension or chronic pain, the remedial massage therapist will assess where
you need treatment and what may be causing your pain. They will perform some tests to see exactly
which muscles are giving you trouble and will tailor a treatment plan to suit. The treatment will involve
combination of techniques to treat the causes of musculoskeletal dysfunction, rather than just focusing
solely on pain relief.
Massage Schools of Queensland students will learn about human body and how to assess their client as
well as a lot of techniques, and all classes are taught at classroom so that they can provide a unique
treatment to suit for each patient’s need!

MASSAGE SCHOOLS OF QUEENSLAND School Guide 2017
1-2. BECOME A REAL AROMATHERAPIST @ MSQ
What is Aromatherapy / Who is Aroma Therapist? Aromatherapy can be defined as the art and science of utilising naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonise and promote the health of
body, mind and spirit. It is an art and science which seeks to explore the physiological, psychological and spiritual realm of the individual’s response to aromatic
extracts as well as to observe and enhance the individual’s innate healing process. As a holistic practice, Aromatherapy is both a preventative approach as well as an
active method to employ during acute and chronic stages of illness or ‘disease.
In the hands of a qualified therapist, essential oils are the only remedy that can be used to treat internally, externally and vibrationally, making them truly holistic. A
qualified therapist can customise the remedy and method of application to meet your individual needs.
Aromatherapy is both an ancient art and a modern science, however products using the term ‘Aromatherapy’, commonly found on supermarket shelves, should not be
confused with the therapeutic work of a qualified Aroma therapist.
What can it do for patients?
Aromatherapy can treat a variety of conditions, help manage symptoms and act as a complementary therapy to modern medicine.
Some examples:
mood disorders
reproductive issues
ENT infections
bronchitis and respiratory conditions
autoimmune disease including rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis
digestive disorders
aches and pains including arthritis
skin conditions
detoxification
[Referred from ATMS & IAAMA]
Massage Schools of Queensland students will learn about human body, massage
techniques and how to assess their client as well as aromatherapy, so that they can
gain great outcomes.

4. TESTIMONIAL FROM INDUSTRY
VERSACE S.P.A - Spa at PALAZZO VERSACE
“We have been taking on graduates from the Massage School of Queensland for some years now. Without
question the students we have received present professionally and with particularly high levels of skill. They
have a good understanding of what is required in a five star Hotel setting. I will continue to source quality
therapists from Massage Schools of Queensland as we require new staff.”
Malou Arena
I am pleased to be associated with the Massage Schools of Queensland.
In 2003, I graduated "Dux of the School" with a Diploma of Remedial Massage.
Their invaluable education and guidance gave me the required knowledge and skills to practice as a fully
qualified Remedial Massage Therapist. Our instructors gave us confidence to face almost every known
condition we encounter.
I have been running a thriving practice at Salon Shiva at Bell Place Centre in Mudgeeraba for the last 4 years.
Many doctors, physiotherapists and chiropractors are continually referring their patients to me.
My clients feel comfortable that they are under my capable healing hands.
I would thoroughly recommend the Massage Schools of Queensland to be the best in this state.
Correct Body Maintenance
I, Heidi Edwards, finished my Diploma of Remedial Massage at Massage Schools of Queensland in December
2005.
I found the courses at MSQ to be well structured and the faculty and teachers and lecturers are all professional
and ethical - traits that they also instill in their students. I have completed other courses prior to attending
Massage Schools of Queensland, so I know this from my own personal experience.
The wealth of experience and knowledge of the teachers and lecturers at MSQ made my learning experience
both easy and pleasurable as they shared in my passion for massage.
With the skills I have learnt, I now own my own business and employ two receptionists and four other Remedial
Massage Therapists (soon to be five or six). Three of these therapists come from MSQ.
I have previously hired therapists from other colleges and have found the depth of knowledge limited compared
to therapists trained by MSQ. So it is with great pleasure that
I can recommend Massage Schools of Queensland to anyone who wants to learn more about massage therapy
or who wants to start in this wonderful profession.
Allonge Technical College Korea
"With deepest gratitude, we honor you and the Massage Schools of Queensland, which are giving us a constant
source of inspiration in the field of massage.
Word cannot express how thankful we are to you. On behalf of Ms. Sha Sha Kim and all the staff of Allonge-M
Academy, I really would like to express my thanks to you for your generosity in sharing your expertise, your
wide and extensive experience and your time about the field of massage for many years"
