Section B: Market Research and Target Market

1. Here is a description of the Market Research done by us, including how many people we spoke to.To identify the potential customers for our School Green Enterprise in the School Campus, we have conducted a detailed market research with the help of a printed “Demand form”. We have distributed a form to each class to conduct the Market Research. There are 14 classes with 375 students and 25 teachers from Grade 6 to 12 (6A, 6B, 7, 8, 9, 10 A, 10 B, 11 A1, 11A2, 11 A2, 11 B, 12 A1, 12 A2 and 12B).

The survey contains a list of questions as follows:

1. Do you eat breakfast daily? (Because few students skip breakfast)2. What kind of Breakfast do you prefer?3. How much you or your parents can spend for your breakfast?4. Do you prefer refreshment / snacks / juices during the break?5. What kind of refreshment / snacks / juices do you prefer?6. How much you or your parents can spend for your refreshment?7. How often you purchase your stationery things?8. What are the stationery items that you buy?9. What kind of vegetables that you or your parents buy from the shop on daily / weekly basis?10. How much do they spend on Vegetables and Groceries?

After getting the answers from the students and teachers we are able to identify the demand for our Business and potential customers. Even we are able to predict the exact need of our customers from our Green School Enterprise.

We have used the daily Morning assemble as to medium to convey our idea about the Business and the real purpose of our School Enterprise. So the response was really meaningful.

Finally we had a discussion with the Class Teachers and Student leaders from each Class on the Market Research. The discussion throws insight on the deeper understanding about the Market in our School Campus and the real need of our Green School Enterprise.

2. These are the results of our Market Research, including who is going to buy our product/service and why they will buy it.From our Market Research we have found that most of the students don’t have proper nutrient breakfast. Hence the students and few teachers are identified as our potential customers for the Business. The 10 and 12 Grade students who are preparing for the Board Exams need to come to school earlier for the special class. Most of them don’t have breakfast daily. Hence they will be our regular customers.

The School is having a Cooking centre to prepare for the Govt. Free Lunch which is offered for 6 to 10 Grade students. Hence the workers who will be cooking will be used to prepare the Breakfast and will be provided by nominal wages for their work to our School Business.

The Teachers and students don’t have the best option for the Nutrient Refreshments / Snacks / Juice during the Break. Hence most of the Teachers and Students will be our regular customers during the School Break times.

The School Enterprise will be the best option to buy daily stationery items for both the teachers and students.

As we have a vast place with good water facility, we are able to grow healthy and organic vegetables to sell for our teachers and students at the school Enterprise.

Section C: Competitors and Competitive Advantage

3. These are our main competitors and their strengths and weaknesses.

Competitor Name Strengths Weaknesses

Murugan General Shop The only shop located near the school to supply the demands of the students for Stationery and Refreshment items

It is located outside the School Campus. The price is too HIGHThe quality of the Snacks and refreshments are not good

Selvi Mobile ShopA lady named “Selvi” is used to come to school with her basket to sell products. She used to sell seasoned goods for snacks, fruits etc.,

The price is too HIGHThe quality of the Snacks and refreshments are not goodIt is illegal to sell inside the School Premises.

4. Our competitive advantage – This is why we are going to be better than our competitors:

We found our competitors have limited selection of goods, so we are going to sell large range of goods to satisfy the entire school community.

We are planning to sell the best goods with moderate price which are able to pay by the students and teachers.

Our products will be with high nutrients and rich in taste.

The quality of our products will be better than our competitors.

The place will be convenient for our customers as we are going to have the business inside the school premises.

The Green Enterprise will be a part of the School Management and so we will get the support of the entire school community and the parents.

Section D: SWOT Analysis

5. This is our SWOT Analysis.

Strengths – What are our business’ strengths? Our school management agree to provide a separate convenient space for our Business.

We are good at Planning and Logistics

As it is a Business run by the students for the students we will get the support from the entire School community and parents.

Since we are students there is lack of coordination which we need to rectify.

Planning and Execution require more time to run the successful Business.

We have the complete Support from the students, teachers and parents.

Basic Resources like Water, Electricity, place etc., will be offered by our School Management for the Business.

There may be few threats can come from our competitors which can be overcome by the School Management and the Village Committee.
