AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The primary aim of St. Joseph’s English Medium HigherSecondary School is to impart sound formation - spiritual,moral, social, mental and physical to all students of this insti-tution, with a special religious stress on the principles of Chris-tian faith as far as the Christian students are concerned.

ADMISSION

This Catholic School, established by the St. Theresa’sParish Eravu of Archdiocese of Trichur is meant for all, irre-spective of religion, caste or community. The school accom-modates students from Minus Two to Plus Two.

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOLSt. Joseph’s Educational Complex English Medium School,

Eravu was opened as a nursery school in the year 1978. Rev. Fr.Immanuel Rathapilly, the then Vicar of St. Theresa’s Ship Churchis the founder of this Educational Institution. It has completed37years of existence and celebrated its silver Jubilee. Today itstands as a beauty spot on the cheeks of this holy shrine.

During those days a desire rose among the parishioners forEnglish. Therefore a Lower Primary English Medium School wasopened in 1979 and it was recognised by Govt. of Kerala on28.3.1989. The very next year the school developmentcommittee decided to upgrade it into upper primary shcool and itgot recognition on 16.3.1990. Then the need of a high school waskeenly felt. Again it was raised to high school and VIIIth and IXthstandards got sanction on 16.3.1996 and 11.4.1997 respectively.The recognition of the Xth standard was on 25.10.1997.

The first S.S.L.C. batch was presented for the examination inMarch 1998 and won 100% result. We are proud to say that wehave produced splendid results securing 100% success for thelast twelve years. Besides we are blessed with 15th & 8th Ranksin the previous years. It is highly gratifying to state that the schooldevelopment committee and trustees render a very good serviceto the promotion of this school.

One of the main objectives of this institution is to impart valuebased education to the children who are to be the future archi-tects of our motherland. Our medium of instruction is strictly En-glish. St. Joseph’s E.M.H.S.S. has always been a nurturing groundfor blooming talents. It provides ample opportunities for the blos-soming hidden talents. We have a very covetable tradition in thefield of arts and sports. As regards discipline, coaching and resultthe school keeps a very high standard.

We have a dedicated team of teachers and non-teaching staffwho function with a sense of commitment and sincerity. We havea strength of 62 staff members. There are more than one thou-sand and five hundred students who find shelter under the roof ofthis temple of learning. Our teachers are efficient, sincere and hardworking. Due to excellent discipline, good coaching and consis-tent attractive results pupils from distant areas take interest torush to this school to swell its strength. To meet the needs of theday a new school building has been constructed. It was inaugu-rated by His Grace Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy, Archbishop of Trichur on

1.6.1997. In 2002, the institution was upgraded into a HigherSecondary School with one Science (Biology) batch. One Sci-ence (Computer) batch, one Science (Biology) additional batchand one Commerce (Computer) batch were sanctioned in theyears 2003, 2004 and 2005 respectively.

The new Plus Two building was inaugurated by Sri.K. Sankaranarayanan Hon. Minister for Finance on 9.1.2004. Nowit is a fully and permanently recognised school. We have efficientand experienced staff in Higher Secondary also. Now it standsholding aloft the torch of learning enlightening Eravu andneighbourhood.

We erected a Home Theatre in 2008. The celebrated FilmDirector Sri. Sathyan Anthikad inaugurated. In 2010-11, we intro-duced Rhythm Phase-I a programme to facilitate the aesthetictalents of students. In 2012-2013 we introduced Tata Class Edge- a programme to improve the teaching learning process throughmultimedia facilities in class rooms.

ADMISSIONNo Advance admission is made, no candidate will be

admitted without an interview test. A transfer certificate fromthe previous school must be produced at the time ofadmission. Sutdents are admitted to L.K.G. by an oral test. Theminimum age for it is 3½ years and school sets a maximum agefor each class.

Application for admission is to be made in the prescribedform available at the school office.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. All Students should have a copy of the School Diary, withoutwhich will not be admitted to the class.

2. The School Time:Morning session : From 9.40 a.m. to 12.45 p.m.afternoon : From 1.45 p.m. to 3.45 p.m.

and Plus I & II 4.15 p.m.3. The students attending the morning session should not be

absent themselves in the afternoon session without the permission of Principal.

4. The school uniform is compulsory on all class days. Specialuniform is compulsory on Wednesdays, Saturdays and atSchool Functions.

5. Students who are absent for five consecutive days withoutleave of absence and fee defaulters will have their namesremoved from the roll. Each student will have to payRs. 100/- for readmission.

6. Students must be punctual for class; those who come late orwho have been absent on the previous day must bring thelate attendance or absence record signed by theirparents.

7. No student shall leave the school premises during schoolhours or recess without the previous permission of the Prin-cipal.

Defaulters will have to pay fine. Rs. 10/- will be charged for alllate payment of fees. Fee will not be accepted on holidays. Feewill be collected in the classes on the dates noted above.N.B. In Dec. : Fee for Dec. and Jan.

8. Students are not allowed to interview parents or visitorsor to leave the school premises during school hours with-out the permission of the principal.

9. It is forbidden to write or scribble on the walls, throw pa-per, or ink about the class room or in any way damagethe school premises or property. Damage done will haveto be rectified.

10. Students are themselves responsible for their own books,pen, cycles, tiffin carriers or any other articles they maybring to school.

11. Irregular attendance, habitual idleness, neglet of home-work, disrespect towards teachers and members of thestaff, or bad moral influence justify dismissal. Studentsare responsible to the school authorities for their conductboth in and outside the school.

12. Students absent from examinations without grave reasonwill be considered as failed. Students absent from anyexamination, for any reason whatsoever, will not be re-examined.

13. All correspondence addressed to studetns at school maybe subjected to inspection.

14. Students who have not paid the fees will not be permittedto write the examiantions.

15. The school accepts no responsibility, if through failure inwearing school uniform or in bringing books to class orsignature of parents on remarks written by teacher or onthe Absence Record in the School Diary, the studentobliged to return home during class hours. Even late comermay be sent home.

16. Absence on the opening and closing days of term or afterspecial holidays like Onam, Christmas etc. will be pun-ishable. In the case of sickness the school authorities mustbe notified in time.

17. Attendance at official school functions like the School Day,Sports, etc. is compulsory.

18. Students are strictly forbidden from taking part in strikes,political or other organisations likely to result in violence,or communal disturbances. Those who take -part in suchactivities will be dismissed.

RECOMMENDATION TO PARENTS/GUARDIAN

1. Parents are expeced to co-operate in work of the schoolby enforcing regularity, punctuality and discipline and bytaking an abiding interest in their children’s progress.

2. parents are especially requested to read the ruels care-fully and see that they are followed by their wards.

3. Parents should check the Diary and the home work given.Yor are requested not to visit the class rooms or classteachers during the class hours. Though such visits arenot allowed, you may meet the teachers during the nooninterval.

4. Parents who seek information or who wish to make somecomplaint should approach the Principal and not the classteacher. Criticism on a teacher of the school in child’s

21. Students are strictly forbidden from driving any kind ofmotor vehicle - two wheelers, three wheelers, four wheel-ers etc. in the school compound.

22. Students are not allowed to bring Mobile phone, Cam-era, MP3, Pen Drive, C.D., Floppy Disc, Pornographicbooks, Pictures etc. to the school.

23. Students are also forbidden from consuming intoxicatingdrugs like Hans, Panparag etc. both inside and outsidethe school. Those who indulge in these bad habits willbe dismissed.

24. Students are not allowed to distribute sweets or any fooditems in the school or school bus in connection with birth-day, festivals and other special occasions.

6. If you feel that your child does not make the desiredprogress, you should contact the Principal. Private tuitionsare strongly discouraged. If the parents desire to have tu-itions for the student, arrange for after getting the permis-sion of the Principal.

7. Teachers are strictly forbidden from imposing fines on thestudents and they are urged not to collect any money ororganise any collection whatsoever from the students with-out the previous permission of the Principal.

8. Withdrawal of your child from classes for more social func-tions is not recommended. Because it retards their progressin school and minimises their respect for hard work, withthe consequent failure to progress in their studies.

9. Should there be an infectious disease in your home pleasereport the fact to the Principal at once and do not sendyour child to class till the danger or infection has passed.

10. As the medium of instruction in this school is English, thechild should be helped to follow the classes easily andintelligently by a certain amount of guardian’s guidance.

11. Strictly follow the fee date.

12. Children are not supposed to go out during lunch break.

13. Parents are allowed to meet the teachers only duringlunch break .
