Scholarship Competition Rules Onepublishedcopyofthescoreofeachcompositionmustbeavailableforthejudges.Photocopiedscoreswillnotbeacceptedwithoutwrittenpermissionfromthecomposerorpublisher.Norepeatsaretobetakenwiththeexceptionofthosewrittenoutwith1stand2ndendings.TherewillbenoconcertoswiththeexceptionofWindsandStrings.Timingwillbestrictlyenforced.Judgesmayneedtostopstudents,duetotimeconstraints.Eachcategoryofinstrumentorvoiceshallbejudgedindependently.Singleentrycontestantsinanycategorywillnotautomaticallyreceiveaprize.AFirst-Placewinnerwillnotbeeligibleforfuturecompetitioninthatsamecategory.Scholarshipsaretobeusedtofurtherastudent’smusicaleducation.ScholarshipswillbepresentedtothewinnersattheannualHonorsRecital.

Piano
Elementary is forstudents inschoolgrades4-6whoareable toperformatthelevelofeasierClementiandBeethovenSonatinas.Studentsmustpresentamemorizedprogramofthreepieces,notto exceed 10 minutes total in length, covering three musichistoryperiods.(Seelistingsbelowforrepertoiresuggestions.)IntermediateisforStudentsinschoolgrades7-9whoareabletoperform at the level of Two Part Inventions, more difficultSonatinasoreasierSonatas.Studentsmustpresentamemorizedprogram of three pieces, not to exceed 12 minutes total inlength,coveringthreemusichistoryperiods.(Seelistingsbelowforrepertoiresuggestions).Senior is for students in grades 10-12 who are able to playrepertoireonthelevelofBach'sPreludesandFuguesandsonatamovements of Beethoven, Mozart or Haydn. Students mustpresent a memorized program of three pieces, totaling 15-20minutesinlength,covering3musichistoryperiods.(Seelistingsforrepertoiresuggestions).

Voice
Elementary is for students in school grades 4-6 who are singing at the level of the suggested repertoire on page 13. Students must present a memorized program of 2 songs of different tempos/moods, not to exceed a total of 8 minutes. (See list of repertoire suggestions on the next page). Intermediate is for students in school grades 7-9 who are singing repertoire on the level of Pathways of Song, Vols. 1-2. Students must present a memorized program of 3 songs, one of them in a foreign language, not to exceed a total of 10 minutes in length. (See list of repertoire suggestions on the next page). Senior is for students in school grades 10-12 who have developed a sense of style and sophistication in their music. Students must present a memorized program of 3 songs representing 3 musical historic periods, not to exceed a total of 12 minutes. (See list of repertoire suggestions on the next page.) PLEASE BE ADVISED… No simplified arrangements or “Pop Tunes” will be accepted. Music from the Musical Theatre genre is acceptable. Please contact the Scholarship Competition Chairperson with any questions concerning acceptable repertoire. Vocalists may be accompanied by a teacher or a student. If a recorded sound track is to be used, the student must provide an electronic player.

Scholarship Competition ThePalmBeachCountyMusicTeachersAssociation,wishingtoencourageexcellenceinperformance,holdsanannualScholarshipCompetition.Thecompetitionisdesignedtoencourageintegrity,beautyandconfidenceinperformance.Tobeeligibletocompete,thestudentmustbestudyingwiththeirprivateteacher,aPBCMTAmember,foraminimumofsix(6)months.Scholarshipapplicationsmustbepostmarkedthree(3)weekspriortotheeventdate.NOLATEAPPLICATIONSORLAST-MINUTECHANGESWILLBEACCEPTED.AllwinnersareexpectedtoperformintheannualHonorsRecital,whereawardswillbepresented.Accompanistfees,ifrequired,forboththecompetitionandHonorsRecitalwillbetheresponsibilityofthestudentortheirteacher.PBCMTAscholarshipmoneyisavailableeachyeartoPiano,Voice,ClassicalGuitar,Wind,andStringstudentsinElementary,IntermediateandSeniorcategories.AnyPBCMTAmembermayenteruptothree(3)studentsintheScholarshipCompetitionperyear.Theapplicationfeeis$25perstudentforallcategories.
