ST. TERESA’S COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), ERNAKULAM
REPORT OF SCHOLAR SUPPORT PROGRAMME (SSP)
2015-2016
The Scholar Support Programme (SSP) launched by Govt. of Kerala and implemented
by The Directorate of Collegiate Education is being introduced in St. Teresa’s College
(Autonomous), Ernakulam in the academic year 2014-15. SSP aims at imparting
personalized additional support to students having poor academic background through
tutorials, study materials, additional lectures, question banks, interactive sessions etc.
This year SSP is implemented for the First Semester and Second Semester Degree
students. As per the guidelines, 5 subjects are to be chosen of which, one should be
English (Common Course). Considering the result analysis available at the official web
site of the Directorate of Collegiate Education and the details of academically weaker
students collected from the departments of the college, following subjects are identified.
For the First Semester, the subjects chosen are the following:
English (Common Course)
Economics (Complementary Course for B. A. History students – ‘Principles of
Economics’ )
Physics (Complementary Course for B. Sc. Mathematics – ‘Properties of Matter,
Mechanics and Fourier Analysis’ )
Sociology (Core Course – ‘Methodology and Perspectives in Sociology’ )
Mathematics (Complementary Course for B. Sc. Physics- Calculus)
And for the Second Semester:
English (Common Course)

Physics (Complementary Course for B. Sc. Mathematics – ‘Electric and Magnetic

Mathematics (Complementary Course for B. Sc. Physics- Partial Derivatives, Multiple
Integrals, Trignometry and Matrices)
For the second year, the subjects chosen are the following:

Physics (Complementary Course for B. Sc. Mathematics – ‘Quantum mechanis,
Spectroscopy, Nuclear Physics, Basic Electronics and Digital Electronics’ III Sem.
Optics, Laser Physics and Astro Physics IV Sem.)
Statistics (Complementary Course for B. Sc. Physics
Zoology (Complimentary course for Home science students)
Dr. Mariyam Thomas, Assistant Professor of Physics was selected as the coordinator of
the SSP programme for the year 2015-16.
The beneficiaries of SSP are the students who are having less than 60% aggregate
marks or having the lowest percentage of marks in the qualifying Plus-Two
examination. Details of such students were collected from each department through
class teachers. Application forms were also collected from students. Based on the
scrutiny of their marks in the Plus-Two examinations and the feedback on their
performance from their respective class teachers, for each of the five subjects, 10
students were identified. A student is assigned only one subject under SSP. Thus in the
academic year 2015-16, we have a total of 50 first year degree and 50 second year

students (Candidates of SSP 2014-15) as the SSP beneficiaries. The list of selected
students was approved by the Principal and the Academic Council. The detailed list of

Scholar Support Programme_St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ekm 2014-15
All the resource persons were the regular faculty of the college. The SSP classes were
taken after regular classes and on holidays. Monitoring of the proper functioning of the
classes was done by the authorities. Meetings of the students with the SSP Coordinator
were also held as and when required. Informal student feedbacks were collected during
those meetings.
A total of 16 sessions of one our duration was conducted for each subject for the first
and the second year together. Attendance registers for the students were maintained
by the SSP resource teachers. Also the attendance was marked by the resource teacher
for the classes engaged by them. The registers were handed over to the Coordinator
after completing the classes.
The college has received an amount of 1,21,000/- rupees ( order No. 92/SSP/2015 dtd.
19.10.2015) towards the Scholar Support Programme Fund for the academic year 2015-
16. The allocated fund has been utilized as per the regulations provided. Stationary kits
and the study materials were supplied to the students. Stock register of the study
materials is also maintained. The copies of audited utilization certificate and the
detailed list of items purchased are shown below.

Scholar Support Programme_St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ekm 2014-15
The Scholar Support Programme has come to an end by 31 March 2016. The students
were benefitted from the personalized additional support in the chosen subjects which
are challenging to them. We thank the Department of Higher Education, Government
of Kerala for implementing SSP programme and supporting us with study materials
and financial aids.
