SCHIZOPHRENIAI went away to see an old friend of mine His sister came over she was out of her mind She said Jesus had a twin who knew nothing about sin She was laughing like crazy at the trouble I’m in Her brother says she’s just a bitch with a golden chain She keeps coming closer saying “I can feel it in my bones, schizophrenia is taking me home.”

My future is static It’s already had it I could tuck you in And we can talk about it I had a dream And it split the scene But I got a hunch It’s coming back to me SCHIZOPH

SSC FOUNDATIONFOUNDATIONThe Schizophrenia Society of Canada Foundation (SSCF) was founded in 1994 with a generous donation from the late Dr. Michael Smith. Dr. Smith’s donation of half of his Nobel Prize Laureate monies was used to help form a research fund. It is a legacy that continues to inspire others to invest in research initiatives today.

SSCF’s main focus is to fund fellowships in the areas of molecular genetics, imaging and biochemistry of the central nervous system and psychosocial rehabilitation with special emphasis on schizophrenia and psychosis. Since 1994, SSCF has funded 16 multi-year fellowships.

What is schizophrenia ?

Schizophrenia is an extremely complex mental illness : in fact it is probably many illnesses masquerading as one. A biochemical imbalance is believed to cause symptoms.

What causes schizophrenia ?

The precise cause of schizophrenia remains unknown. Changes in key brain functions, such as perception, emotions, and behaviour, indicate that the brain is the biological site of schizophrenia. Some researchers suspect neurotransmitters (the substances through which cells communicate) may be involved. There may be changes in dopamine, serotonin, or other neurotransmitters. The limbic system (an area of the brain involved with emotion), the thalamus (which coordinates outgoing messages), and several other brain regions may also be affected.

How is schizophrenia treated ?

Currently, there is no method for preventing schizophrenia and there is no cure. Minimizing the impact of illness depends mainly on early diagnosis and, appropriate psychosocial treatment and medication.

SONIC YOUTHSONIC YOUTHSonic Youth is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1981. The original lineup consists of Thurston Moore (vocals and guitar), Kim Gordon (vocals, bass, guitar), Lee Ranaldo (vocals and guitar), Steve Shelley (drums).

In their early career, Sonic Youth was associated with the No Wave art and music scene in New York City. Part of the first wave of American noise rock groups, the band carried out their interpretation of the hardcore punk ethos throughout the evolving American underground that focused more on the DIY ethic of the genre rather than its specific sound. As a result, some consider Sonic Youth as pivotal in the rise of the alternative rock and indie rock movements. The band has experienced success and critical acclaim throughout the last three decades, continuing into the new millennium, including signing to major label DGC in 1990, and headlining the 1995 Lollapalooza festival.
