Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center (Hwy 28) Marsh Haven Nature Center (Hwy 49) Horicon National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center (Hwy Z) April 14: Spring Volunteer Work Day and Opening Day for the Season Lend a hand anytime between 9am and 4pm as we work to open the nature center for the season. April 26: Free Community Connection Event: Birds, Butterflies & Your Backyard 6-7pm. Make seed bombs and get ready to welcome backyard visitors. April 21: Live Critters with Dave Stokes! 11am-12pm and 1-2pm. Get hands on with frogs, turtles and more. June 20: Junior Wildlife Biologist: Nesting Birds 1-2:30pm. Learn how biologists record bird nesting activity. Open some nest boxes and do your own research! Youth program. August 4: Outdoor Skills Day 9:30am-12:30pm. Join DNR staff and volunteers to learn more about outdoor skills, including archery camp! July 18: Junior Wildlife Biologist: Native or Invasive? 10-11:30am. Learn how biologists help habitats stay healthy by promoting native plants. Bring your own plant home and start your own prairie garden! Youth program. June 23: Horicon Marsh Paddle 7:30am-1pm. Canoe or kayak the Canoe Trail at the Horicon Marsh Wildlife Area. Talk with interpret- ers stationed throughout the marsh to learn more! Contact 920-387-7893. Free shuttle. July 12: Stories at the Marsh 10-11am. In the Tall, Tall Grass. Meet at the picnic shelter for stories and then turn into a small insect! July 17: Back to Basics: Shelter Building 10-11:30am. Wildlife are some of the best architects. Come see how they build their shelters and then let’s go out to the woods and build your own! Youth program. July 10: Back to Basics: Ultimate Camouflage 10-11:30am. Wear your best camouflage and come play hide and seek in the woods. Natural face paint will be provided! Ongoing nature crafts at the visitor center plus water bug scooping, tracks and pelts on the Sense of Wonder Trail/Nature Play Area. May 10-14: Horicon Marsh Bird Festival Marsh- wide event. What will you find in the micro world? Youth program. April 22: Earth Day Celebration 9am-5pm. Plant milkweed, make a seed bomb and recycled craft, and hike. Wild Birds of Prey program at 1pm. $ April 12: Stories at the Marsh: Don’t be a Litter Bug 10-11am. Stories and an outdoor unnatural trail! Best for ages 1-10. June 7: Stories at the Marsh 10-11am. Frogs. Stories and a frog hunt. Bring your boots or a change of clothes! Best for ages 1-10. June 5: Bird Hike 7-9pm. Join us as the sun goes down to search for resident and nesting birds as well as late spring migrants. May 3: Membership Meeting & Volunteer Recognition 11am. Wolves Among Us program. Please RSVP for noon lunch. June 2-3: Hiking, Bicycling, Fishing Weekend at Horicon Marsh Marsh–wide. August 14: Back to Basics: Treasure Hunts 10-11:30am. Join us for an all-natural scavenger hunt! Bring back what you find and we’ll fill up our natural jar of wonder! Youth program. April 28: Hunting from an Elevated Stand 9-11am or 1-3pm. Did you know that 1 in 3 hunters will fall from a stand? How safe are you? Join us for a hunter education refresher on tree stand safety. Pre-registration required at www.horiconmarsh.org. May 1-31: Wisconsin Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest Exhibit On Display See youth artwork from the 2018 contest. May 12: Wetland Water Bugs 11am-12pm. For young explorers of all ages. Scoop water bugs from the marsh. Meet at Egret Trail floating boardwalk off auto tour off Hwy 49. August 9: Stories at the Marsh 10-11am. Grasshoppers. Stories, a grasshopper hat and a hike to search for the jumping green machines! August 30: Monarch Tagging 10am-12pm. Presentation then catch monarchs and watch as DNR staff tag these magnificent migrants. June 19: Back to Basics: Frogging 1-2:30pm. Grab your boots or go barefoot! We’ll find some spots where we can get wet and squishy while searching for frogs! Youth program. May 12 & 13: Wild Birds of Prey Saturday 3-4pm and Sunday 1-2pm. Have you ever wanted to see a hawk or owl close up? This program will introduce some of Wisconsin’s raptors through a photo presentation, mounted specimens, and LIVE birds. $ May 14: Meet the Marsh Haven Martins 10-11am. Get a close look at the Marsh Haven Nature Center purple martin colony. Free event. June 2: Sense of Wonder Discovery Trail Hike 1-2pm. Climb on logs, hop on stumps and enjoy outdoor play! Meet at the Visitor Center on Hwy. June 2: Family Bike Tours Pedal portions of the refuge with a guide. Meet at Main Parking lot of refuge auto tour (Hwy 49). Two, one-hour tours offered: 9-10am and 10:30-11:30am. June 2-3: Wisconsin Free Fishing Days Designated areas. No license required. June 9-10: Scouting Weekend 9am-5pm.
