Students learn musical skills such as rhythm, harmony, sight-reading, and listening. Creative movement Introduction to ballet and movement exploration. Students must be potty-trained with independent bathroom habits.

Ballet/taP ComBo Introduction to basic ballet and tap techniques. Must have had Creative Movement or minimum age 5 to enroll.

Ballet There are several schools of style and methods of ballet. Our classes integrate styles and technique from these different schools. Our ultimate goal is for each student to learn what their body is capable of and how to utilize his/her own strength.

taP Students will gain rhythm, strength, balance, and coordination by learning tap technique and fundamentals.

Ballet/taP/Jazz ComBo Introduction to ballet, tap, and jazz techniques. Must have had Ballet I, Tap 1, teacher approval, or age 10 to enroll.

funK Class incorporates elements of jazz dance technique with funky street-style hip-hop movement.

lyriCal A combination of ballet, modern, and jazz. One or more years of Ballet experience required.

modern A combination of ballet and jazz. No experience required.

iriSH CeiliS Learn the traditional Irish Ceilis set to Irish music. Ceilis are a social group dance similar to square dancing and country line dancing. Try something new and get a little exercise as a bonus! No experience or partner is required.

iriSH danCe Learn the fundamental steps of Irish dance including the Jig, Reel, and team dancing known as Ceilis while building strength, flexibility and coordination. Additional skills include the Slipjig and the beginning key components for hard shoe.

JuSt danCe Explore movement, space, and rhythm through a melding of Jazz, Ballet, and Funk. Focus on breathing, posture, and technique during ballet/jazz warm-ups followed by fun and funky combinations. Great for any level of dancer, no experience required.

The Schauer School of Dance was founded in January 2007 and focuses on building students’ dance abilities through the development of a strong technical foundation. Students also have the opportunity to perform and take master classes with visiting companies that are part of the Schauer Center’s Mainstage Series. All classes will be held at the Creative Arts Studios, unless otherwise noted, and is equipped with two newly remodeled dance studios, family waiting area, and an observation window. Dance Dress Code: Each class in the Schauer School of Dance has a required dress code, specified in the School of Dance Handbook given at time of registration. The Schauer School of Dance sells all required dancewear directly to the students. Dance fittings are by appointment only, scheduled fitting dates are listed below. Please call 262-670-0560, ext. 4 to schedule your appointment. Full year tuition has a 10% discount included. No other discounts apply.

From ornaments to cookie plates, learn basic hand building techniques to create a variety of holiday items and gifts. This workshop is a great way to get silly and goofy with your family while learning improvisation. Through interactive games and exercises you will learn how to think on your feet quickly, gain confidence, and most importantly have a fun time from start to finish!

Tuesdays, September 11 - October 16 Tuition: $89 • Class Size: Min 5 / Max 15 Academy at Civic Theatre (ACT) is the educational arm of the Waukesha Civic Theatre (WCT). ACT strives to heighten students sense of cultural literacy through flexing their creative muscle, hoping they will become future patrons, donors, volunteers, and ambassadors for the arts. Creative SParK art worKSHoP Saturday, October 20 Ages: 16+ • 9:00 am-12:00 pm • Tuition: $50/student Give yourself (and a friend) the gift of a morning of play by exploring imaginative mixed media compositions with an abstract feel. Experiment with liquid watercolor and india ink on paper to create spontaneous starter compositions. As a group take a closer look at your quick results and discover new opportunities for further development. Let these fresh compositions lead you to further play with color, shape, rhythm, size and direction. The goal of this workshop is to connect with your creative self, experience unlimited freedom, the flow of new ideas, and a renewed sense of creative spirit. Supplies included. The Nutcracker with the Dance Alive National Ballet Saturday, September 8 • 9:00-10:00 amAges: 7-18Tuition: $25 for those cast Registration begins at 8:00 am, preferred dress is leotard, tights, and ballet shoes. Casting will be posted at 10:30 am, with

rehearsal to follow from 10:30 am-5:30 pm, depending on role cast. Possible roles include soldiers, mice, party-goers, and Clara’s friends. All students auditioning must enroll in the Fall 2012 Session of the Schauer School of Dance. Students cast will rehearse on Saturday afternoons under the direction of Melissa Arnold. A rehearsal schedule and costume requirements for each role will be given at auditions.

(Following Fever River Puppeteers, River Critters)Class Size: Min 5/Max 25 Tuition: $5 admits two, all ages welcome.

A place for parents, grandparents and children to play and create together. Lead by Sandye and Chuck Voight, Fever River Puppeteers, this hour long workshop gives participants the chance to have an insider’s view of how puppet theater is created. Participants will get an up-close and personal look at some of the puppets used in the show, learn tricks of the trade, make simple puppets and come home with directions for a stage to go with them.

danCe alive national Ballet

Ballet maSterClaSSSaturday, December 22 11:00 am-12:30 pmAges: 12+ with a minimum 3 years of ballet training Tuition: $15 (free to Schauer School of Dance students) Join Kim Tuttle, Artistic Director of The Dance Alive National Ballet for this 90 minute class which consists of classical barre for the first half, followed by center work. This class is for intermediate to advanced ballet dancers, wear pointe shoes if possible.

Tuition Fees: Price includes registration and administrative costs.

Deadline for Registration: Please register two weeks prior to the start date for any given program. Enrollment levels are evaluated at this time and class may be cancelled if minimum enrollment isn’t met.

10% Discount: For Friends of the Schauer Center, residents living within the boundaries of the West Bend School District with support from the West Bend Community Foundation, or if registering for more than one class in a session. Discount applies to the lesser value class. One-day workshops under $40 are NOT subject to 10% multiple class/sibling discount. NEW: pARTicipate student referral program. With each class registration you will receive a $10 coupon to pass onto someone. For each coupon redeemed you will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate.

Refund Policy: A 50% refund of the tuition in the form of a gift certificate will be in effect through the second class/rehearsal. After the second class, NO REFUNDS.

Tuition Assistance: Financial need based assistance is available on a first come first serve basis for eligible families. For an application, call 262-670-0560, ext. 4.

Class Size: All CSA classes carry a minimum/maximum class size that determines if the class will be offered. Classes not meeting the minimum may be cancelled. Maximum levels are determined by classroom space or instructor/student ratios.

Payment Plans: Payment plans may be arranged with the Schauer Center for any class over $100. However, a minimum of 1/4 of the tuition fee must be paid prior to the start of the first class/rehearsal. Payment plans must be paid with a credit or debit card, and completed agreement must be turned into the Schauer Center prior to the first day of class.

Waiting Area Policy: Creative Arts Studios - Adults and children may wait in the designated waiting area. Children should not be left unattended in this space. Food and drink are allowed. Schauer Center - Due to numerous activities, event set-up, and valuable artwork on display, the Schauer Center prohibits parents from waiting in the Gallery (second floor) after dropping children off for CSA class(es). If a parent chooses to stay on premises for the duration of a child’s class, the Schauer Center requests that parents wait on the lower lobby level.

Show Your Support eduCation & inSPiration fundThe Schauer Center’s Education & Inspiration Fund is available to provide need-based financial aid to prospective students to help overcome barriers to enrollment in Schauer Center classes or activities.

The E&I Fund is a self-sustaining fund independent of the Schauer Center’s operating budget. Interested persons or organizations can make donations through the Schauer Center to support the growth and development of this educational resource.
