SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS FLOWERS DONATED:

Charlene Dierking and Family, in loving memory of John Dierking (d. 5-22-04).

The Voters’ Meeting on Sunday, April 28, produced a couple of notable results. The motion for the Education Wing Project that was postponed from the January meeting was declared null and void. A very informative report from the Project’s Committee revealed that a building addition is not necessary to accommodate Ascension’s current needs. A space planning analysis by Lewis and Himes produced this result and the Voters’ accepted it and passed a resolution for the Committee to proceed with the project. As the work on this progresses, the congregation will be updated and asked for input.

Bri Fort gave a report on sheltering for this past year and the Assembly voted unanimously to continue this service for another year. Anyone interested in helping in the upcoming year are urged to contact Bri.

Eighty-one of our members attended the meeting. A sincere thank-you goes to the Ladies Guild for the delicious lunch.

VOTERS’ MEETING: UPDATE!

At 9:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall they will give their testimonial papers and will answer questions concerning their studies on the Christian Faith. At 10:30 a.m. they will speak of their commitment to God in the Rite of Confirmation. You are encouraged to pray for these young Christians and for all of our youth.

YOU are a Member of the Foundation if you are a Member of Ascension Lutheran Church!

The Boom Cyclone Blizzard on March 13 did not detour the Foundation Board of Directors from meeting on March 14 for our regular meeting.

President Mike Price updated the board that our Financial Advisor Sandy Purcell had made the changes requested by the board to a fee-based compensation and changed our equity split to 2/3’s domestic and 1/3 international in accounts. Jerry Gerdes reported the progress on our UPDATE publication and set a deadline for all articles to be in by 3/21/19. Jim Shelton commented of positive responses from World Missions in support of John Wolf working in Africa. Jim, our longest board member also put on his ‘history hat’ and reviewed how and why we became a 501c3 charity, IRS rules and the Foundation’s focus funding of Missions, Outreach, Education/ Youth and General. Excellent review for all the board!

A Grant Request was approved from Ascension Youth for Butter Braid Fundraiser with matching funds up to $500. The funds to be used for youth attending the National Youth Gathering in July. There are many benefits for our youth and leaders when attending these gathering, worship and learn alongside other LCMS youth, tools as a servant, nourishment for soul, furthering God’s Kingdom and learning more about their Lutheran identity.

In the Narthex, you will find a Foundation Bulletin Board. There are envelopes for special gifts or memorials made to the Foundation. Grant applications and guidelines are available, as well. PLEASE SUBMIT GRANT APPLICATIONS BY THE END OF EACH MONTH. THANKS.

The Foundation wishes to express its profound sadness at board member Joyce Wagner's passing. Joyce had served the Foundation for over ten years and was responsible for keeping Ascension's members informed and involved in the Foundation's activities. Her wisdom and sense of humor

served the board members well over the years, and she will be sorely missed.

From all of us at the board, thank you God for Joyce and thank you Joyce!

In 1993 Dave Anderson, his wife Barbara, and five others went down in a plane crash in the Bering Sea. They lost one engine at 7,000 feet; the other at 3,500 feet and then their plane fell 3,500 feet in 3 1/2 minutes and then plowed into the ocean at 90 MPH. Come to Ascension TODAY at 4 p.m. to hear "the rest of the story"; how seven people survived nearly one hour in 36-degree water, 144 miles south of the Arctic Circle. Dave will tell this amazing story at the concert that he and Roger Walck will present.

MATTERS OF IMPORTANCE!

Education Wing Plans: The Education Wing Committee has placed the plans from the Space Planning Architect in the Narthex. There is a sheet for comments. The plan will be displayed until June 9. This is the first plan they produced. The contract with Lewis and Himes allows Ascension to have them develop one more plan within the next couple months. We already know that this plan will change – so don’t be shy to add your comments. The Committee members are Bob Hea, Chair, Bob Johnson, Roger Koester, Chuck Mielke, Arvin Michels, Dustin Olson, and Jim Riebling. Please feel free to contact any of these Committee members.

Bike Parking: There is a new Bike Rack to the north/left of the Main Entrance from the Parking Lot. It is secure and will hold four bikes.

MAY BOARD OF THE MONTH: ASCENSION TRUSTEES

King Soopers has changed their gift card program, effective April 1. The gift card program (where our youth received a portion of the money spent at King Soopers) is now replaced by their Community Rewards program. You’ll no longer need to reload the gift cards in order for Ascension to receive a portion of the money you spend. Instead, you need to link your King Soopers loyalty card to the organization of your choice (we would be grateful if it’s Ascension!). Then, every time you shop and insert your loyalty card or your associated phone number, Ascension will again get a portion of the money you spend on qualifying purchases.

If you already have a loyalty card, you simply need to go online and link your card with Ascension. You log on to your personal account at www.kingsoopers.com/communityrewards. Our organization number is BW890, or you can search for Ascension Lutheran Church. If you don’t have a loyalty card, you simply pick one up (it’s free) at your King Soopers customer service department.

Any money you reload on your King Soopers gift card after April 1 will not count toward Ascension’s rewards money. Therefore, we’d be very grateful if you’d convert to the new Community Rewards program as soon as possible. Any money remaining on existing gift cards is still yours to spend, but your purchases simply won’t go toward Ascension.

KING SOOPERS GIFT CARD PROGRAM TRANSITION
