Scene 1:Opening Scene (Jessica runs on to stage in a panic.)

(Jessica) Sara: Help! Help! Help, everybody! I’ve lost music! I’ve lost music!

(Teacher)Leah: What on earth is all this racket about? Jacob, what’s going on here?

Sara: Oh Mrs. Johnson, I’ve completely lost music! I’m like a ship without a rudder, a team without a coach, a kid without a video game!

Alex: Take it easy, Jessica. What do you mean, “you lost music?”

Sara: Well, I had it. It was right here in my ears and in my heart, and all of a sudden, it’s gone! All gone! All gone! I’m like a day without sunshine, a balloon without helium, a burger without fries.

Grace : (to the audience) Jessica can be very dramatic, if you know what I mean.

Leah: Well, Jessica, it can be a very serious thing if you did lose music. But are you sure that it’s gone completely?

Sara: Yes! Yes! Completely! Listen ( He takes a deep breath and opens his mouth to sing. Nothing happens.)

All: Wow! He’s right!

Jasmine : Like a train with out a whistle

Zoe: A bear without a growl. But are you sure it’s gone completely.

Campbell : A cow without a moo!

Sara: A burger without fries.

Leah: We’ll build it.

All: “Build it?”

Opening Dialog Page 3 & 4Haley: Oh, I know! We’ll build Jessica’s music back, using all of the elements of music. Then it will be whole again.

All: Great idea! All right! I get !

Sara: Elements? I don’t know. I thought elements were like minerals and gases and stuff.

Logan: Well, in a way, Jacob, the elements of music are similar to the elements found in nature. And if you put those elements together, you can make some amazing things.

Sara: Well, come on Einstein, let’s get going!

Raegan W.: Where should we start?

Leah: Did you ever have one of those songs in your head that you just can’t seem to forget?

All: Ya! Sure have!

Leah: The tune that you hear is called the melody.

Maiya: The melody is one of the most important elements of music.

Mariah: Of course there is!

Brecklyn: Melody is just one of the elements of music.

Harley: Perfect!

Sara: Perfect? What do you mean, “perfect?”

Katelyn T: One of the most important elements of music is all about the pounding beat!

Riley L.: Hey, Jessica! There’s a phone call for you on your cell.

Sara: Hello.

Mia R.: Hello, Ms. Jessica! I am calling to inform you have been randomly selected to receive a lifetime supply of tone quality. Which we are sure you will enjoy. In order to receive your free tone supply, please send a check or money order for $500.00 before tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. We will then supply you with a beautiful tone we know you will enjoy.

Sara: Wow! $500.00 for tone quality seems a little expensive.

Jessie: Tone quality isn’t somethin that you have to pay for, it’s just another element of music that’s yours absolutely free.

Reid: The element of tone is as diverse and plentiful as the colors of the rainbow.

Ayden: It can be fun to experiment with to make your music sound different, even when the melody, rhythm and harmony are all the same!

Sara: Huh?

Jarion: Sure….our voices can sound happy or sad

John: ….bright or dark

Jett: ….big or small!

Leah: So, remember, Jessica, watch that tone in your voice!

Start with Strophic, you can call it A,

It’s so simple, like a child at play,

Like “Down in the Valley” or

“Amazing Grace,”Music time cannot

erase.

When you add another A,

the words might change but the music

is the same.Now you’ve got

another verse, makes it easy to rehearse.

Tuesday, December 2nd @ 2:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. www.bthompsongs.wordpress.com

25

Now do something different with a change of harmony, you’ve got a new section, you can call it B.

It’s verse and chorus, A and B combined, like “O Susannah” or “Clementine” Go back to A again, don’t go

astray. Put all you heard together, now don’t delay,

You’ll find a form played ‘round the world today! Add it all up: A A B A! We got form!

Yeah, we’ve got Form! Theme and variations, and rounds that rhyme,

we’ll save these forms for another time, we’ve got form, form,

we’ve got form!

Ayden: But you should think about what you want to say with your music, even if you say it without any words.

Sara: Huh?

Mariah: You say “huh” a lot, don’t you?Quinten: Making music with your voice, an instrument, or even your body is more than just mastering the elements we’ve talked about so far.Mia: With music, you have the opportunity to communicate like nothing else.Keene: Use your music, Jessica.Claire: Use music to say something that is important to you.Max: Express your mind!Maiya: Express your heart!Mikayla: Express yourself, Jessica!
