The External Academic Auditors namely Dr. K.P. Kandasamy, former Registrar,Bharathiar University and Dr. Major Syed Shahabuddeen, Principal, Islamiah Women’sCollege, Vaniyambadi visited Islamiah College (Autonomous) on 7" & gt April 2015.They visited every department of the College, verified the records maintained by thedepartments and interacted with the faculty with a view to assess the academicperformance of every department criterion wise for the year 2014-2015. The ExternalAcademic Auditors are very much pleased to make the following observations:

A

ww)

Controller of Examinations section is systematically doing well. Theconfidentiality of the question papers is remarkable. The transparency ofevaluation, the computer generated random dummy number system, theopportunity for re-valuation etc. are commendable. The External AcademicAuditors congratulate the Controller of Examinations and his team for theirmeticulous work.

However, it is suggested that safe locker must be provided by the Managementto this section for handling the cash safely.

The support services of the College particularly NCC, NSS, YRC, Enviro Club andSports have been functioning very well. The social service schemes andcommunity oriented programmes of these support services are appreciable. It isremarkable to note that the University Grants Commission has sanctioned 1.7Crores of rupees for the construction of Gymnasium and laying Running Tracksduring the XII Plan Period under the Development of Sports Infrastructure.

The active participation of students in all these support services is congratulated. However, it is suggested that some more steps should be taken by NCC to sendthe cadets to Republic Day Contingent Camp which is lacking at present. As regards the innovative programmes in curriculum designing, somedepartments like Commerce, Biochemistry, Biotechnology etc. have done verywell. Subjects like ‘Recent Trends and Technological Developments in Banking’and ‘Recent Trends in Marketing’ introduced by the PG Department of Commerce

31

Page 33: Scanned Imageislamiahcollege.edu.in/download/downloads/... · 2020. 2. 20. · Centrifuge, Cell Counter, CO, Incubator, BOD Incubator, ELISA Reader, Ultra Centrifuge, Microwave Bench

are innovative. The History department has introduced ‘General Knowledge and

Awareness’ and ‘Civil Services and other Competitive Examinations’ as innovative

programmes. ‘Medical Lab Technology’ and ‘Nano Biochemistry’ are theinnovative programmes of Biochemistry course. Biotechnology department has

introduced ‘Herbal Biotechnology’, ‘Vermiculture’ and ‘Mashroom Culture’. The

Mathematics department provides opportunity to the students on ‘Hands on

Training with Computer’ in the curriculum. The recruitment procedure of public

service examinations, bank examinations etc. and training methods of prominentcorporate companies are the new topics found in the syllabus of Commerce

(Computer Applications). The External Academic Auditors congratulate all these

new initiatives in curriculum development.

The inter-disciplinary programmes of Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry and

English are highly commendable. The Physics department offers subjects like

‘Fundamentals of Electrical and Electronic Measurements’ and ‘Maintenance of

Home Appliances’ as non-major subjects to the B.Sc. Mathematics students. The

Department of Computer Scienceoffers ‘Introduction to I.T.” and ‘Internet and Its

Applications’ to the students of other departments. The Department of

Biochemistry offers ‘Diagnostic Biochemistry’ for Biotechnology students. The

Department of English offers ‘English for Communication” and ‘Business Writingin English’ to the students of other departments. The ‘Indian National Movement’

and ‘Indian Political System’ are offered as non-major papers for B.Com. and

8.Com. (F & A) students by the Department of History. The Department of

Commerce (C.A.) provides ‘Income Tax’ as non-major subject to the B.B.A.

students. Thus it is found that the inter-disciplinary programmes are very good in

the college.

It is found that some members of the staff have not done Orientation and

Refresher courses as per the regulation of UGC. It is pointed out that UGC has

given only extension of time upto December 2013 and not exemption, therefore,it is pointed out that those senior professors who have got career advancementwithout undergoing the required number of orientation and refresher coursesshould complete the same at the earliest.

32

10.

It is very much appreciated that some departments like Biochemistry and Library

have organised UGC sponsored seminars. It is suggested that other departmentsshould follow their example and apply for seminars/conferences/workshops to

the UGC for financial assistance.

The publications of some departments like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and

Commerce are very good. The faculty of other departments should also comeforward to publish research articles in national and international journals veryseriously.

The remedial classes conducted for slow learners are good.

It is very much appreciated that the Department of Commerce conducts a

certificate course under career oriented programme of UGC called ‘e-Commerce

and Footwear Technology’. Similarly the Department of Commerce (F & A)

conducts coaching classes for ICWA. Other departments may follow their

example.

The Department of Arabic has a novel programme of picturizing the Arabic words

and 5000 words are found picturized. Similarly the monthly magazines published

by the students of the Department is commendable. The Urdu Department has

introduced DTP as part of the curriculum in the 1% Semester.

The Department of Hindi has done a commendable work by coaching non-Hindi

students and making them to appear Hindi examinations conducted by Prachar

Hindi Sabha.

Library of the College is well maintained and it has adequate resources including

e-journals and e-books. The virtual library of the College adds another feather in

its cap.

It is found that no major or minor research projects are sanctioned to the faculty

except one to Dr. Abdul Jaffar Ali of Biotechnology department by DBT. It is

suggested that the faculty should takeit up seriously.

Community service activities have to be initiated and strengthened.

33

15. Parents and alumni meetings are to be held periodically.

16. Student evaluation of teachers is to be strengthened.

17. It is commendable to note that some departments like Computer Science,Physics, Biochemistry, PG Department of Commerce, Mathematics etc. aremaintaining records perfectly and systematically but it is also found that thenames of long absentees or the names of those who have left the college arefound in the Nominal Roll in some departments. It is suggested that names ofsuch long absentees or of those who have left the college may be removed fromthe rolls.

Finally the External Academic Auditors thank the Management and the Principalof

the College for giving them the opportunity to assess the academic performance ofe College. Similarly they are grateful to all the members of the staff both teaching and

‘non-teaching for their kind cooperation.
