How to use SCAMPER
u You use the tool by asking questions about existing products, services, or situations.
u First, take an existing product or service that you want to improve.
u Start asking questions regarding the 7 concepts of scamper.
SUBSTITUTE
u What materials or resources can you substitute or swap to improve the product?
COMBINE
u What would happen if you combined this product with another, to create something new?
u What if you combined purposes or objectives?
ADAPTu How could you adapt or readjust this product to serve another
purpose or use?
u What other context could you put your product into?
MODIFY
u How could you change the shape, look, or feel of your product?
u What could you add to modify this product?
PUT TO ANOTHER USEu Can you use this product somewhere else, perhaps in another industry?
u How would this product behave differently in another setting?
u Could you recycle the waste from this product to make something new?
ELIMINATE
u What features, parts, or rules could you eliminate?
u How could you simplify this product?
REVERSE OR RE-ARRANGEu What would happen if you reversed this process or sequenced things
differently?
u What if you try to do the exact opposite of what you're trying to do now?

Activity
u Gather in teams of 4 or 5
u Team will be given one different product to work with: Bicycle, toilet paper, mug, broom, lollipop
u Using the SCAMPER technique, you will need to come up withnew ideas and inventions related to your product.
u Fill the table with the information required. For each letter of the Word SCAMPER the team must come with 3 different ideas, making a total of 21 ideas. (3 ideas x 7 letters = 21 ideas)
