PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
FEATURESOPERATING PRINCIPLEThe SC series tuning fork level switch is suitable fordetecting the presence and absence of liquids and solutions of a wide range of fluid materials.The principle of operation is based on changes in vibration frequency of the tuning fork when it comes in contact with the target fluid. The SC unit contains piezoelectric crystals to produce a vibration of the probe structure at its resonant frequency when free of the target material. When the fork probe comes into contact with the material the vibration is weakened/dampened and the frequency changes, which is detected by the SC unit's electronics and the switch electric output changes state.

The SENSITIVITY adjustment potentiometer is located on the upper sight side of the panel inside the SC standard type enclosure. In general there is no need to adjust the SC sensitivity. However, if required during setup it is possible to make adjustments to the sensor sensitivity using a simple instrument screwdriver.
The SC sensitivity is factory set at the maximum value. The switching point is approximately 0.591” (15mm) from the tip of the fork (vertical/top mounting orientation) based on an S.G. of 1.0. If desired, the switching point can be changed by adjusting the sensitivity of the SC.
If you reduce the sensitivity by turning the potentiometer counterclockwise, the switching point will move further away from the tip of the fork (closer to the process connection, based on a vertical/top mounting orientation). If the sensitivity is increased by turning the potentiometer clockwise, the switching point will move closer to the tip of the fork (based on vertical/top mounting orientation). The maximum adjustment of the switching point, based on an S.G. of 1.0, will be approximately 2.36” (60mm).
Example: based on a fluid with an S.G. = 1.0 and vertical / top mount orientation, if the switching point is 15mm based on the factory setting and it needs to be located 30mm further away from the tip of the fork, then the potentiometer is to be turned counterclockwise by about 10 full rotations or turns. Refer to page 9 for more information.

SWITCHING POINTThe switching point for the SC24 compact tuning fork level switch with the 105mm fork length is as shown in Figure 3. In a vertical orientation (top mounting), with a fluid having an S.G.
3= 1.0 (62.4lbs/ft ) the switching point is approximately 0.905”(23mm) from the tip of the fork. For fluid with an S.G. <1.0
3(62.4lbs/ft ) the switching point distance from the tip of the fork 3will increase. Conversely, for a fluid with an S.G. > 1.0 (62.4lbs/ft )
the switching point distance from the fork tip will increase. The switching point for the SC28 compact tuning fork level switch with 40mm fork is 12mm (based on vertical orientation and fluid with S.G. = 1.0(62.4lbs/ft3), as shown in Figure 3.

Min. (low) Mode: The SC240/280 is equipped with an AC/DC power supply and solidstate relay output that can be either open or closed. There is a 3 second delay in the activation of the SC unit when the power is initially applied, subsequent to this the relay switch is open and the red LED off. When the target material covers the fork, the vibration stops and the relay switch becomes closed and red LED is illuminated.
Max. (high) Mode: The SC240/280 is equipped with an AC/DC power supply and solidstate relay output that can be either open or closed. There is a 3 second delay in the activation of the SC unit when the power is initially applied, subsequent to this the relay switch is closed and the red LED is illuminated. When the target material covers the fork, the vibration stops and the relay switch becomes open and the red LED is off.
Min. (low) Mode: The SC241/281 is equipped with a solidstate 3-wire DC PNP/NPN transistor output whose switch can be either open or closed. There is a 3 second delay in the activation of the SC unit when the power is initially applied, subsequent to this the transistor switch is open and the red LED off. When the target material covers the fork, the vibration stops and the transistor switch becomes closed and the red LED is illuminated.
Max. (high) Mode: The SC241/281 is equipped with a solidstate 3-wire DC PNP/NPN transistor output whose switch can be either open or closed. There is a 3 second delay in the activation of the SC unit when the power is initially applied, subsequent to this the transistor switch is closed and the red LED is illuminated. When the target material covers the fork, the vibration stops and the transistor switch becomes open and the red LED is off.

MAGNETIC TESTAfter the switch has installed and power tested, magnetic switch can be performed accordingly. Output status will switch from status of NO. to NC. or NC to NO. and red LED would indicate the vibration status by on / off.When magnet is pulled away from the housing, red LED would return as default while fork continues to vibrate. By this verification, user can confirm the wiring and function are correct or not.

INSTALLATION
Horizontal Installation1. Do not locate the SC series unit where the fork will be in the flow stream (Figures 1 and 3).2. Keep the SC series fork protected to eliminate damage from falling material (Figure 1).3. When installing the SC series unit to detect dry free flowing powder or small granular materials, always
take into account the angle of repose of the material surface (Figure 1).4. Do not install SC series unit near fluid flow inlet (Figure 1, 2 and 3).
Vertical Installation 1. Based on the factory setting of the SC unit sensitivity, and a target fluid with an S.G. = 1.0, the switching
point will be approximately 15mm from the tip for all Standard units (23mm for all SC24 Compact units, 12mm For all SC28 Compact units).
2. When installing in a horizontal pipe or other conduit, fork orientation should be such to allow the fluidto flow between the forks as shown below (Figure 4).
3. Do not install near or under material inlet flow (Figure 5).
