Welcome/Food/Drinks(10minutes) ApprovalofPastMinutes(1minute):Therewasa1stmotion,a2ndmotion,andfull

approvalofthepastmeetingminutes.

FundingRequest(10minutes):o SRF/ResearchWeek(AllisonAnacker):ThisfirstannualOHSU-wideresearch

conferencewillshowcasethediversityandexcellenceofresearchbeingperformedby

faculty,students,research-rankedemployees,post-docs,staffandothersacrossall

schools,centers,institutesandeducationprogramsatOHSU.Thecallforabstracts

willbesentouttodayFridayMarch9th,2012.Theyhadabout100studentspresent

lastyearandareexpectingthesameifnotmore.Thetotalbudgetfortheeventis

$37,000.Wearerequesting$2,000fromtheStudentCouncil.Therewasa1st

motion,a2ndmotion,andamajorityvotetoapprove$2,000fortheStudent

ResearchWeek.Onememberofthecouncilobjected.

NewBusiness(10minutes):o IncidentalFeesTaskForce(JesseHollander):Thesurveyresultshavecomeinand

theyhaveshownthattheschoolbookstoreisnotusedtoitsfullpotential.Wewilltransitionintousingthisspaceinamoreeffectiveway.Wewillbeplanningonhaving

avendorfairwheremandatorystudentpurchasescanbepurchased.Theteaching

andlearningcenterwillbeorganizedandturnedintoaprogramthatwillhelp

studentswhohavefailedacourseorarelookingforawaytoimprovethewaythat

theystudy.TheresultswithMarchWellnesshaveshownthatthemajorityofstudents

wouldliketoseethefeesdecreasetoamorecompetitiverate.

Dr.Mladenovic:Ourschoolisdifferentfromotherundergraduateprograms.Unfortunatelythereisaveryhighfacultytostudentratioandittakesalotof

overheadtocoverallofthecostsoftheinstitution.OHSUisa2.1billiondollar

enterpriseandverylittleofthatbudgetcomesfromthestate.Othersources

comefromtuition,butthemajoritycomesfromtheclinicsofOHSU.Thereare

somanyfeesthatgointoonepotthatitdoesntreallymatterwhereitcomesfrom.Dr.Mladenovicwantstocombineallofthefeesthatallthestudentspay

forandlumpeverythingupintotuition.Thiswillallowallstudentstoknow

exactlywhattheirtuitionis.ItwillalsoallowtheUniversitytotacklethebig

pictureproblemssuchastuitionandhealthcareinsuranceforthestudents.

Thenthestudentcouncilwillbeabletodefinethestudentfeesthatwill

supportthebudgetthatthestudentcouncilusesforitsownactivitiessuchas

thesocialevents,communityoutreachevents,andstudentsupported

activities.Moreinformationonthissubjectwillbeprovidedasprogresswith

thisplanismovedforward.

o StudentPositiononBoardofDirectors(DerekMusashe):ThereisastudentpositionontheBoardofDirectors.Itisatwo-yearcommitmentandapplicationsare

duetoDavidRobinsonbyMarch16th,2012.Ifyouareinterestedinapplying,turnina

o AmericanHeartAssociationHeart&StrokeWalk(KarenSeresun):ThiseventwillbeheldonSaturdayMay19thattheVeraKatzEastbankEsplanadeinPortland.Fliers

willbepassedout.Ifyouareinterestedinparticipatingyoucanvisitthewebsite

www.pdxheartwalk.org.Dr.Robertsonisthechairofthisrun,andthereneedstobea

o Newexecutivecouncilfor2012-2013(JesseHollander):ApplicationsaredueonApril27th,2012.ThenewcouncilwillbeannouncedonMay11th,2012.Theelected

officerswillstartonJune8th,2012.JesseHollanderwillsendoutmoreinformation

concerningapplications.

o GeorgianVisitors(NateRisley):WewillhavevisitorsfromthecountryofGeorgiaonTuesdayMarch13th,2012.Thisgroupismadeupofmainlystudentleaderswhoare

lookingtogainexperienceonhowschoolsaroundtheUSsetuptheirstudent

government,whattheirroleis,andhowtheyelectofficials.Ifyouareinterestedin

RegularUpdates(20minutes): StudentHealthInsuranceCommittee(MollyHarding):Theyogaandtimesformeditation

havechanged.Keepaneyeoutinanemailforthosechanges.Therewillbechangestoourhealthinsurance.Thecostwillnotchange,butsomeofthebenefitswillbechanging.Health

insurancewillberequiredtopayforcontraceptivesforwomen.Unfortunatelytokeepthe

premiumthesame,thedeductiblewillberaisedto$500.

StudentNewsletterCommittee(WilliamGiardino):ThePulseisbeingworkedonrightnow.HewillbringacouplepostsfromthewebsiteSpeakout.ThedeadlineforthenextPulse
