The measuring system consists of two TSM scanners which are each installed to the left and the right of the cutting arm of a road header. Both scanners are connected to the control system of a road header or to the IPC via CAN-Bus. Before the cutting process begins, the working face of the section is scanned on both sides and an exact image of the current situation of the coal seam in the working face is visualised. The data collected is converted into optimised cutting parameters. The objective of this is to minimise costs, to enable a constant tunnelling speed and to document in greater detail the tunnel- ling process for mine surveyors. Since 2009, this measuring system has been used successfully on the RAG version of the Sandvik Miner MR620 at the Prosper-Haniel mine. We will be happy to advise you in the field of explosion-proof laser techno- logy in accordance with Ex 1 of the ATEX directives for underground areas.

The TSM scanner is a research projectby Ruhrkohle AG (RAG); this project was carried out in conjunction with the Fraunhofer IML Institut, Sandvik Mining & Construction and SBE Schrader.

The measuring system consists of twoTSM scanners which are each installedto the left and the right of the cutting armof a road header. Both scanners are connected to the control system of a road header or to the IPC via CAN-Bus.

Before the cutting process begins, theworking face of the section is scannedon both sides and an exact image of thecurrent situation of the coal seam in theworking face is visualised.

The data collected is converted into optimised cutting parameters. The objective of this is to minimise costs, to enable a constant tunnelling speed and to document in greater detail the tunnel-ling process for mine surveyors.

Since 2009, this measuring system hasbeen used successfully on the RAG version of the Sandvik Miner MR620 at the Prosper-Haniel mine.

We will be happy to advise you in the field of explosion-proof laser techno-logy in accordance with Ex 1 of the ATEX directives for underground areas.
