WHY WILL THE FLAT WATER RATE KEEP RISING?All Surrey residents pay the same unit rate of water they use and sewer they discharge. Those single-family residents who are metered pay for the water they use as recorded by the meter. Those who choose to remain on the flat rate are paying for the average consumption of all non-metered, single-family dwellings - often the higher water consumers!

As more people who are water-conscious switch to having their water metered, the average water consumption of un-metered single-family dwellings increases which drives the flat rate higher.

WHAT CAN I DO TO SAVE MONEY?

You can volunteer for a free installation of a water meter!The City of Surrey’s Metering Program provides you an opportunity to save money on your utility bill if you currently use less water than the average household in your community.

The supply and installation of a meter for a single family household is FREE.

WHY WILL I SAVE MONEY?If you use less than 750 cubic metres per year, or an average of 2055 litres of water per day or less, you will be paying less money than the flat rate for sewer and water by volunteering for a water meter.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I USE LESS WATER THAN AN AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD?

Several factors determine your water consumption:

Number of people in the household

Size of lawn and garden, the frequency of watering them

Use of water saving fixtures (e.g. low flow toilets, efficient washing machines)

Leaks from fixtures (e.g. do you have leaking faucets?)

Water use patterns (e.g. do you run the tap while brushing your teeth? while washing vegetables?)

Understanding your water usage will help save water.
