OSCAR PETERSON PUBLIC SCHOOL: e-BULLETIN October, 2013 1. Bookfair: This week is book fair week at Oscar Peterson! Starting on Monday Oct. 7 th until Thursday, Oct. 10 th , all students will have a chance to visit the Scholastic book fair during library and recess time. A flyer was sent home with a sneak peak of the latest products and books from Scholastic. If you would like to send money with your child to purchase books, posters, bookmarks, pencils etc. it would be appreciated by all students, as a percentage of the money raised will be given back to our school in product! The fair will be open after school for parents, students and friends on Wed. Oct 9th from 3:30- 6pm. Looking forward to seeing all of you there! 2. School Council Community Open House: Our School Council was awarded a Parent Reaching Out grant with the purpose of breaking down barriers for our parents and community. On Wed., Oct. 16, we will host a Community Open House from 6:30 – 8:00 in the gym (see attached flyer). The evening will give parents information about school services and put them in contact with a variety of community agencies. Please plan to join us! 3. Dr. Karyn Gordon at Wendat Village P.S., Thursday Nov. 7 th : In partnership with Wendat Village Public School and Glad Park and sponsored by the Parents Reaching Out grant from the Ministry of Ontario, Wendat Village will be hosting Dr. Karyn Gordon on Thursday Nov. 7th at 7:00 pm. Dr. Karyn is one of North America’s leading relationship / parenting experts, a best-selling author, a media personality, motivational speaker and founder of dk Leadership. She will be speaking on a new keynote this year called 'Raising Healthy Kids in an Age of Over-indulgence'. More details to follow soon! 4. Lice Checks: Our School Council has once again provided funding for Lice Checks for all of our students. A registered nurse will be at the school on Oct. 7 & 8 to complete these checks. We’re hopeful that these checks will minimize the occurrence of any outbreaks. 5. QSP Fundraiser: Our QSP magazine drive is in full swing. We hope each family can help us reach our goal to have all our families involved in our Family Reading Program, so if you haven’t, please consider buying a magazine for yourself and your children. Every single order placed really helps our school. EQAO Results: The results of the 2012/2013 EQAO assessment were sent home with our Gr. 4 and Gr. 7 students last week. Attached to this e-Bulletin is the first page of the report that shares our school results in comparison to Board and Provincial achievement. area. Our staff will help your children to get in or out of the car. If you feel the need to personally walk your child to the yard, please park on the road. A reminder that the bus loop is not to be used for this purpose and vehicles must not be parked in this area at any time as it is a designated Fire Zone. The York Region Fire Department has been monitoring all schools in the area and is issuing tickets to offenders.

9. Healthy Schools: Oscar Peterson is a designated Healthy School. Throughout the school year, we’ll be communicating several healthy eating/living initiatives.
