Pote’s Notes

Welcome to 2019. I would like to thank all of the Nobility and their Ladies for all the faith and support you have given me on

my journey to becoming Potentate of Ararat Temple for 2019. My motto this year is “TOGETHER WE CAN”. With everyone’s support and dedication we can accomplish many things. I will always endeavor to do what is best for our Nobility and Ararat Shrine.

While we have many challenges to overcome this year, I firmly believe that with your support, we the Divan of 2019, will overcome many of them.

We know our membership is declining, we can still accomplish much with thinking outside the box. We had a very successful circus partnering with Fox 4 and the Love Fund, and fundraising with Ed’s Posse. We must continue to think outside the box on future fundraisers. It is very important that our units and clubs support future fundraisers, this will keep our general fund healthy.

We have several activities planned this year starting with a Roaring 20’s party in February. Please come out and support the temple while we are having fun and fellowship (it’s only $10).

By the time this is published we will have had the VIP party and officer installation, getting us started on what we believe will be a very successful year.

Again, my sincere appreciation for your support and I would like to thank the 2018 divan with leadership from Illustrious Sir Henry McDaniel Jr. I look forward to 2019.

Hospital Van Drivers

As a Noble of Ararat Shrine you are encouraged to get in-volved with the work of our frater-nity.Our Hospital Transportation Club is the tip of the spear in the effort to help our kids. We strongly encourage you to call the Hospital Transportation office at (816) 923-5429 or (816) 923-1319 and join the elite team of Nobles who trans-port our children to our St. Louis Hospital. We encourage every Noble to become a driver and to experience the life changing effect of working with the younger and the weaker. We need office workers and drivers so regardless of ability, all can lend a hand.

Thank you to the following Nobles who drove for a total of 104 hours the month of December!!

Hospital Transportation News

Every month, the men of our hospital transportation team go about the business of caring for the needs of seriously ill children. They do this tirelessly and with little attention from the rest of the membership. There is no doubt the membership appreciates the work these

very few men put into our core reason to exist. There are repeated calls for aid with this vital task. And these calls go unanswered. It is true some Nobles are hard at work with full time jobs, children in sports and many commitments to prevent them from helping out. We understand and applaud your hard work. Yet in talks with other Nobles, we often hear “I really want to get involved” over and over. Why is it we hear this and see virtually no activity?

We need so much help there is often much that can be done that does not require a repeat-ing commitment. There is office work that could be done. We man this office five days a week and have a need for a few good men to answer the phone and insure our drivers are all set up for their trips. There are perks for this work. You receive Crown Jewel Honor points for your time at this task. When on duty we eat in the restaurant at a reduced rate. We enjoy the support of the Divan and the rest of the staff at the Temple, and we get the real satisfaction of knowing we make a difference. It is a great feeling to chat with a patient and to watch them progress through their treatment. Each one blooms into a walking billboard for what good men can accomplish.

Quite naturally, we also need drivers to transport these young miracles to the hospital. To drive you need a couple of things that are reasonably simple. You need a copy of your driving re-cord that can be obtained from your local license bureau, and a clearance from your Doctor stat-ing you are physically able to safely drive. That’s it! and for these two items you will become one of the few who stand at the head of our shrine. You will drive our beautiful van transporting our children to one of the newest facilities in our Shrine Hospital system. You will meet drivers from all over the country who are caring for children too!

In summation, we need the help. It is easy, fun and incredibly rewarding. Membership in the Hospital Transportation Club will bring great satisfaction, friendship and growth for your work. If you have an interest in joining us, call our office M-F 9:00 -2:00 at (816) 923-5429; or call the front office at (816) 923-1975 and our excellent office staff will transfer the call to us. Reach down deep, grab a handful of heart and we will see you wearing Hospital Transportation Blue very soon.

Membership BY ART KINDER

Why has membership disappeared in the last 40 years? Did we sign a member to join be-cause he wanted to make a mark on this world or was he invited in by a friend to make a member in his Lodge or make his name count on a membership total?

There are some, unfortunately, within the Fraternity that should never have been allowed past the West Gate. Guard the gate and allow only quality men to join our ranks. We need to protect the Eastern Chair.

If we are simply another social club that promotes pseudo and, etc. to fulfill egotistical goals, that is exactly the kind of man that will knock on our doors. These men that we bring in have an idea of what Masonry is already, and they have expectations. If we do not help set these expecta-tions, but simply demand that the candidates appreciate the ceremonies they will leave disap-pointed.

If the candidate cannot be a friend in the lodge, that lodge and perhaps Masonry in general it is not for him. If we cannot befriend the candidate, we need to help him find a lodge that can, or an organization that will.

As we find our way into the future, we must come to grips with emerging technologies. The Older generation see Facebook as a way to keep in touch with family. The younger generation sees it as a marketing and advertisement tool.

If the fraternity is not tapping into that market, potential members are being lost. The older leaders have an obligation to the younger leaders, they must see how vital it is that he give up the reins and guide future leaders as a mentor.

However, to really grasp the changes that lie before us, we must let go of our ego, boost our brother up without hoping for some kind of reward or recognition.

BLUE SPRINGS SHRINE CLUBBy Fred Harle, P.P.

They always say, “April Showers BringMay Flowers.” Well, here it is April 10th,haven’t seen much rain here in our greatcity of Blue Springs, MO, but you knowwhat, if you are like me those May flowersare already starting to bloom. You knowthe kind I’m talking about, those pretty lit-tle yellow flowers that we spend a smallfortune trying to eliminate from our yardevery year. Yep, they are called dande-lions. If you don’t have any I’ll be morethan happy to bring you some of the onesfrom my front yard. That is just before Itry to get rid of them.

Today Jennie’s brother Kenny and hisLady Emma who live in Warrensburg, MOdrove up to see us. We met at Bob Evan’sRestaurant in Lee’s Summit, after whichall four of us visited the Swap Meet. Wow,what a super extravaganza. An even big-ger surprise was to be greeted by Ill. SirKevin Sleyster and being chauffeured byour Recorder, Mike Wheeler. Upon enter-ing the rear gate we were greeted by thehardest working Shriner I know , NobleMac McWilliams. Try and keep up withthis Noble and you’ll find it’ s impossible. Thanks Mac for all that you do for Ararat.

Let me tell you about our March BSSCmeeting. To begin with, our meetings withNoble Bill Fickle at the helm just get bet-ter and better . Following the usual open -ing ceremonies for our Shrine Club, we getdown to the business of trying to catch thefatted calf so to speak. Our President, Bill Fickle arranged aspectacular program for our entertainment.Jordan Mitchell, a member of DeMolay, presented a Ceremony of Life in full form.Wow, super impressive, you could hear apin drop. What a treat to see and hear sucha talented young man.

Our good buddy Noble Lou Sohn hadsome stents inserted close to his heart andhe is progressing great. He heard aboutPast President Bill Clinton doing okaywith his so he got some.

Last, but also a very important part ofour BSSC team is Noble James Gar gotta. He puts together our club newsletter , sec-ond to none, that keeps all our membersinformed about what’s going to happen, and what has happened. Not only aboutanything and everything in and about ourclub, but other clubs, uniformed units, andour temple in general. If you don’t believeit come see for yourself! Board of Trustees Member Helps Jamaican Child Receive Life-Changing Care

Shriners Hospitals for Children — St. Louis Board of Governors member Joe Shivley teamed up with Poplar Bluff, Missouri pediatrician Debra Robertson, M.D., to help bring baby Isa-bel from Jamaica to St. Louis for life-changing brachial plexus palsy surgery.

When mom Geneva was in labor last January, Isabel “Izzy” became stuck in the birth canal for over six minutes, which caused tearing of the nerves in her arm. Though some babies with

minor cases recover naturally, many require a nerve repair sur-gery, ideally before age 1. The Bennett family lives in South Central Jamaica in the town of May Pen, which is about two hours from the capitol of Kings-ton and the nearest children’s hospital.

The Bennetts knew some-thing was wrong with Izzy’s shoulder when she was born. When Dr. Robertson came to Jamaica on a medical mission trip last July, she recognized Izzy’s condition and suggested the Bennetts take Izzy to Busta-mante Children’s Hospital in Kingston. She also recommend-ed reaching out to the Shri-ners, and connected them with Moolah Shriner Joe Shivley to help get Izzy an appointment. “This is why we do what we do as Shriners,” Shivley said. “This hospital works miracles.”

Despite the fact that Mr. Shivley lives in Poplar Bluff and the Bennett family lives in Jamaica, Izzy received a surgery appointment date and an emergency medical visa. The family made its way to St. Louis and she underwent surgery on January 15. The mission group Mission Four 18 and their leaders Len and Aimee Scott helped tremendously, as Geneva and dad Terrence serve as local representatives for them in Jamaica.

Izzy will stay in the United States for three to four weeks, depending on her recovery time. She will have a second surgery later this year. Once she recovers, she will have much more range of motion and will be able to start walking and keeping up with other kids her age, all due to the help of our local board member!

I llustrious Potentate Henry McDaniel, Jr. called the January meeting to order at 7:00 pm, January 9, 2019 in A&B.

Assistant Rabban Jim Kerns informed the Captain of the Guard, Bud Higginbotham, that the Potentate was about to open Ara-rat Temple for business. That done, Captain of the Guard, Noble Bud, informed Outer Guard, Noble Jeremy Yates, and then report-ed to Noble Jim, who informed Illustrious Sir Henry that the Temple was under a double and trusty guard.

Chief Rabban Butch Pugh than surveyed the crowd and informed the Potentate that our Temple was free from jeopardy as there were none present save members of our order. Il-lustrious Sir Henry said “Tis Well”.

Oriental Guide Donnie Fowler Prepared the Alter.

Noble Chaplain Wes Wingfield remem-bered our Nobles who had been visited by the Black Camel and gave the invocation.

The Colors were placed prior to the busi-ness meeting beginning. The assembled No-bles, led by Chief Rabban Butch Pugh recited the Shrine Pledge of Allegiance, and the sing-ing of the National Anthem.

In accordance with a motion passed at the February 8, 2018 stated meeting, the reading of the previous month’s minutes is suspended during the term of the current Potentate.

Recorder Mike Wheeler was called upon and announced that there were no Petitions for Creation, no Petitions for Association and no Petitions for Affiliation. There was one Petition for Restoration. There were two re-quests for demits. It was announced that the committee for remissions met and has recom-mended the remission of dues for one deserv-ing Noble, and the permanent remission of dues for one deserving Noble. The GiftBY WILLIAM WARREN

This was a day like all the others. Get up, dress, make coffee and off to work. Fight-ing the traffic and the lunatics that are al-

ways running five minutes behind. Get to work, the boss is a jerk-wad and loves chewing on people. He only feels like a man when he can stand on someone’s dignity. Like many, I only tolerate this because I can’t find a job to replace this one. I work all day with the increasing frus-tration of a man who will never complete the

task. There is always another broken thing to repair and an irate client who wants his repair moved to the front of the line. In short, today was a day like all others.

At the end of the day I pulled out of the parking lot and onto the highway. I managed to slip away five minutes early so I could get a leg up on the rush hour traffic. A five minute ear-lier departure gets me home ten minutes earlier because the traffic is lighter. For this privilege, I only take a 45 minute lunch and no afternoon break. So I sacrifice half an hour to save ten minutes. My workplace is so dreary the trade is

a great value so I really don’t mind. However, today is not like any other day. Today I hit the highway and in five minutes, I am at a standstill due to an accident on the road up ahead of me. I can hear the sirens but can’t see anything up ahead. I am good and stuck. So in one way, my day is on schedule. I am fortunate that I was in the slow lane. I can drive on the shoulder for a few hundred yards and down the off ramp lead-ing back toward the office. Even though I can’t get home, I can find a place to not be in traffic, so McDonald’s here I come!

To my amazement, not many drivers thought of this. The place only has four or five people in it and they look bored. I order a coffee and a small sandwich, I don’t eat much. The disinterested order taker rings my order up and tells me my number. To her, I am just another obstruc-tion until it is time to clock out. She is not really working, she is doing time. But the process of order preparation is well established and my number is called fairly quickly. I get my food and take a seat. I notice the Christmas Carols are blasting from the sound system. Today’s 19 year old shift manager wants the noise…. I mean music, to drown out everything, includ-ing thought. It seems he got his wish. This place is loud and truthfully not much in the way of clean either!

So, there I sit, being bombarded my Burl Ives, the Back Street Boys and even Gene Autry as the sounds of the season are forced into my thoughts until all I want to do is shout, “TURN THAT DAMN NOISE OFF.” But I am con-ditioned to endure these societal intru-sions into my Psyche and just grind my

way through the sandwich in hopes that the ac-cident on the highway will be cleared soon and I can resume my trek home so I can prepare to repeat this day yet again.

For a reason I will never know, I look up just as a man carrying a car seat walks in. He is young, poorly dressed and tired looking. He is followed by a young woman in shocking pink who looks disinterested in her surround-ings. I wondered if this was a cultivated look or was her body language and facial expres-sion telling the truth? She looked as if she could be walking through the Swiss Alps just as easily as she was walking in to a McDon-alds here in smallish Independence, Missouri. The only part of their entourage that was not disinterested was the contents of the car seat. The covered car seat was a raging cauldron of anger that could not have been six months old. And this yet unknown child was fully prepared and willing to express her displeasure with her world. She wanted something and was tired of waiting. It was time to make demands! To my amazement, the man placed the car seat and its howling contents into a booth. He then turned to the girl and mumbled something to her and simply walked away. I watched his tiny wrecked Toyota pull off into the night, fully knowing he was abandoning this young girl and her crying child. The girl sat down in a booth not far from where I was sitting. And did what she could to calm the baby. She tried to feed the child with no success. She then checked the diaper and looked grateful that this was not the source of the problem. With that done she held the child close and began to text on her cell phone looking over the top of the child at her phone as if the baby was only a dream. As I sat there watching this tiny dra-ma unfold I noticed the young mother worked with the child but never looked at the menu over the counter. As the minutes ticked away, I watched people walk by the table. Some smiling at the baby who was now being held and had some degree of contentment. Others merely looked at the child with irritation when she cried or made any noise at all. Through all this, I sat transfixed. My lousy day forgotten and for a few minutes at least, I even forgot about the clogged highway that was keeping me from my dreary television and finally the exhausted slumber that the day had wrought.

I walked toward her booth and asked how old the baby was. “Four months” came the re-ply. I then ask if she is waiting for someone. She looked down at the table and said, she had been trying to contact her parents who live nearby for two hours. Her “friends” had grown tired of the baby’s crying and simply dropped her off in the same town as her parents. She had hoped to contact them so she might spend a few days (and Christmas) in her old room. It was obvious she was running scared and with little hope of any real aid. I chatted for a few minutes and walked away telling her I needed a refill on my coffee. Even a tired old man like me could

see the look she gave the cup I was holding. I went to the counter, bought a $20.00 gift card and a large meal. Asking the disinterested or-der taker if she would deliver the food and gift card to the young lady with the baby. “I guess….. “was the bored and overly dramatic reply. I walked away and waited in my car watching the order taker to insure not only the food was given to the young girl, but the gift card as well. As she sat the food down at the girl’s table, I could see the order taker gesture to where I had been sitting. Handing the gift card over at that time. The order taker walked away, checking her watch to see if she was any nearer to leaving the restaurant and her terrible job. I sat in the car for a few minutes. Reflecting on the state of my world, I watched the young mother eat and hold her child close. While she was rapidly working through the sandwich, fries and drink, her phone rang and she grabbed it up. Her face broke into a smile and I saw her mouth the word MOM into the phone.

With that small bit of assistance com-plete, I pulled out of the McDonald’s and headed to the highway. The accident was cleared away and traffic was now moving along in good order. The rest of the trip was actually pleasant. That night, I managed to read my book rather than just get lost in the mindless droning of the television. Slumber was restful and without dreams. On the mor-row, I actually got to work early and spoke with my boss about my thoughts to correct a problem. He was pleased, and supportive. As the day progressed, my thoughts kept re-turning to the young mother and my joy in lending a small bit of aid. It was impossible to hold back a smile as I recalled her face when her mother called. Co-workers spoke with me for the first time in months and we even shared a laugh or two. My boss stopped by to ask if I would write up my observations on the problem we had discussed. All in all a good day.

After a pleasant commute home, I sat and reflected on the recent events in my life. My conclusion was astounding. I was the one that was lost, I was the one who was merely marking time. I had fallen into a rut and never realized it. When I had pulled away from McDonald’s the day before, I was convinced I had offered a small gift to the young mother. Upon reflection, it was she who offered a gift to me. Her need was food and support. I on the other hand need-ed to find my soul. The simple act of “lend-ing a hand” showed me the way to find my smile and my drive to keep moving forward. Over the next few days, I found my joy in my work and the people around me. My out-look changed and my smile returned. While I never saw the young mother again, I still had one task left to complete. One small gift to offer. Tonight, I return to the McDonald’s in search of the disinterested order taker and her unhappy world. z OSAUG18JUIN

Join Us in Nashvil le for the 2019 Imperial Session

The 2019 Imperial Session of Shriners International will take place in Nashville, Tennessee, Sunday, June 30 through Thursday, July 4. All nobles, ladies and their families are invited to join Imperial Sir Jim Cain and Lady Patsy in Music City for the fraternity’s biggest event of the year.

There is so much to do in Nashville that you may never want to leave. The city is steeped in tradition, and summer in Music City offers an endless array of music, food, art and family-friendly activities. Come enjoy this vibrant city with us while celebrating the fun, fellowship and philanthropy that makes Shriners International the greatest fraternity in the world.

About Music CityThere is no place quite like Nashville, the capital of Tennessee. The city is full of so much life, and vibrates to the beat of every kind of music. Nashville may be recognized around the world as the birthplace of country music, but Music City truly plays all the genres. Home to more than 180 recording studies and 5,000 working musicians, you can hear live music flowing from every direction throughout the city, every night of the week.

One of the most famous music venues in Nashville is the historic Ryman Auditorium, built in 1892. Nicknamed the “Carnegie Hall of the South,” the Ryman attracts musicians

and fans from all over the world. This is not just another nightly music venue or daytime tourist stop – the Ryman is renowned around the globe as one of the best performance halls in the world. It is the exact spot where bluegrass was born, where Johnny Cash met June Carter, where country music found an audience beyond its own back porch, and where countless careers took off as deals were signed backstage. It was also home to the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974.

Founded in 1925 as a one-hour radio "barn dance" on WSM, Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry is said to be the show that made country music famous. Renowned for creating one-of-a-kind entertainment experiences, the Grand Ole Opry is now the longest running radio broadcast in U.S. history, dedicated to honoring country music and its history. Every show features the new stars, superstars and legends of the genre. Year after year, hundreds of thousands of people from around the world come to see the Grand Ole Opry show live, which is now performed at the Grand Ole Opry House.

While you are visiting Nashville, also be sure to check out the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, located a block away from the popular honky-tonks of Broadway. Often called the “Smithsonian of country music,” the museum seeks to collect, preserve, and interpret the evolving history and traditions of country music through exhibits, publications, and educational programs.

In addition to its incredible music scene, Nashville offers even more to do, explore and discover. The city is known and loved for its characteristic warm, Southern hospitality; unique and exciting first-class food options; boundless spectrum of nightlife; and dynamic, rich history. Another must-see attraction in Nashville is the Parthenon, located in beautiful Centennial Park. Built in 1897, the Parthenon is a full-scale replica of the

original Parthenon in Athens, Greece, and also serves as Nashville’s art museum.

Music City CenterThe 2019 Imperial Session will be held at the Music City Center, the perfect venue for any size event, from a small, private dinner to a large-scale convention like ours.

The Music City Center offers stunning views of the Nashville skyline and, in keeping with the city's commitment to sustainable development, includes a 4-acre green roof. In addition, the building has been designed to capture Nashville's best attributes and immerse visitors in the unique character of Music City.

We Hope to See You ThereShriners International invites all nobles, ladies and their families to join us for the 145th Imperial Session in Nashville. We look forward to seeing you all at our annual Shriners family reunion in this incredible and one-of-a-kind city. We promise it will be a wonderful time you will never forget.

Needle GuildBY JERRI DOWDY

In February every year Needle Guild celebrates Founder’s Day. The “Ararat Shrine Sewing Circle” was organized in February 1937 by the Potentate’s Lady, Mrs. Herb “Babe” Ford. Each lady donated $1 and Mrs. Ford donated 5 second-hand sewing machines. They met

at 11th and Central on the second and fourth Tuesdays. In 1942 and 1943, the ladies volun-teered to sew for the Red Cross in addition to sewing for the Shrine.

The name was changed to Ararat Shrine Needle Guild in 1947. Potentate Chet Hayes also presented the Needle Guild a gold and black plaque with the new name and Shrine em-blem.

Needle Guild has depended on donations, both monetary and material through the years to continue to provide the hospitals with the items requested. If you are cleaning out your sewing room, we will be glad to take any fabric etc. that you don’t want any more. We pro-vide the hospitals with quilts, pillows, tote bags, toy bags, We also sew IV gowns, shorts, tops, sweat suits, pants and shirts of all sizes from 4 to Adult, and surgical hats for the pa-tients. We try to make everything in bright, happy colors to brighten the day of the children

Needle Guild meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month (except July, Aug. & Dec.) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium. For more information call presi-dent, Jerri Dowdy at 816-941-0620.

Pipes and Drums NewsBY BILL WARREN

Your Ararat Shrine Pipes and Drums are hard at work preparing for a coming year. First, we are making preparations to present the legendary Highlander degree to Nobles from all over the region. That will happen February 2nd here at the Temple. We are also deep into prepa-

ration for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day season that is the heart of our fundraising for the year. It is a well-known fact that this time is a true rolling party for several weekends. We are always look-ing for new members and think this is a great time for you and your lady to come out and share in the fun. When you get a taste of the adventures we enjoy, you will want to be a part of the unit. We also have a tour that we do around the area that will take us to many places where we play, laugh and share the message of Shrinedom. This tour happens after the St. Patrick’s festivities. We are active year around and truly enjoy the time we spend together. If you have ANY thoughts of look-ing for fun and meaningful work with the men of Ararat, we look forward to seeing you! Reach out to any member of Pipes and Drums for times and schedules. Look in your calendar book for contact information.

The proceeds from this event are used for the benefit of children who we take to the Shrine Circus. The idea of a special free Shrine Circus performance for school children was conceived by members of the Mounted Guard several years ago. They had presented their precision drill as a part of the county fair program and they noticed how very much the kids enjoyed the entertain-ment. The thought came to them that the kids would really go for a circus. As a result , this special circus performance became a reality. During the years the attendance has grown to approximately 10,000 kids. We know that the kids have fun at the performances and we know that they enjoy every minute of it.

Well, here we are in the month of May, which meansthe parade season has started. Hope that everyone hada good time at Missouri City and Richmond.

Let’s go back a couple of months for a minute. InMarch, Noble Art Kinder brought his grandson to O.B.rehearsal. We all got to meet him and made him welcome. He really seemed to enjoy watching his granddad play, however I think that might have made Art a little nervous.Art had said before we got started that his grandsonwas here visiting from Canada. It seemed to me that wemight have a future Master Mason in the works.

On a sad note, that month we also lost our last char-ter member of the O.B., Noble Loren Lundy. Hepassed away at the young age of 100, a milestonewhich he turned last August. All our prayers and goodwishes go out to the rest of his family. He was oneNoble that stood out above the rest in every way possible. He is truly missed.

Next we have a little bit about the O.B. SpringDance. It may not have been the best turnout we haveever had, but President Waco still did an outstandingjob. He made sure that those who did make it reallyhad a good time; so, “Hats off and job well done,” toour President. And let’s not forget our ladies for having the Silent Action in the back of Bennett; “A

GREATBIG THANK YOU,” from President Wacoand the rest of us as well.

Now how about the month of April? Hmmmm, let’ssee! It was reported that our President Waco, who alsoplays the bass drum, is very versatile. He can scratchhis back with one hand and continue to play well withthe other. Who knew?

On another note, the O.B. would like to welcomeback Noble Don Lanning. He took a trip to Englandfor a little while but had to come back because he didnot have a visa to be able to stay longer. He said that hewas having a great time over there with his wife, andgot to go and see his son as well. So all in all the tripmay have been short but the time was well spent.

Just to touch a little bit on the Swap Meet, the O.B.had a pretty good turnout to help in all areas from thepop wagon to picking up trash. President Waco wouldjust like to say, “THANKS GUYS.” He couldn't havedone it without us. Saturday was the best day. It wascrowded but we all managed to make it through.Sunday was not as busy, but still a pretty good turnout. So from the nobles of the Oriental Band to all of thenobles that were able to make it, GREATJOB! Hopeto see you in the fall for the next one.

We finally had great weather for ourmeeting in April: no rain, no snow, no 20degrees and windy! Not that the weatherhad ever discouraged our members. Wehad the same great turnout, be the weath-er good or not so good!

Dignitaries attending this month wereLiaison Officer Dave Bushakra and LadyMolly, and Ambassador Curt Karnes andLady Sue. These two couples truly repre-sent good works and good fellowship forthe Shrine and we look forward eachmonth to seeing them.

We were happy to welcome back Daveand Nora Hutchison. They brought backa “truckload” of fish and invited us to theirhomefor the June meeting and a fish fry!

Dave, incidentally, won the 50/50 draw-ing, but that was in no way connected tothe invitation. We would never use anysort of bribery to get Dave and Nora to fixfish for us!

Our guest speaker was Sally Nance,Administrator for the Excelsior SpringsHospital. She gave us a brief history onthe hospital and all the improvementsthey have made, and the new independentliving center completed recently.

Our May meeting will be held again atCatricks Café in Lawson. Tell yourMasonic friends what fun and fellowshipwe have, and bring someone with you tothe next meeting.
