*Hymn: #338 O Beautiful for Spacious Skies MATERNA
CALL TO WORSHIP: (Matthew 10) Dr. Summers
Leader: Jesus said, “Anyone who receives you, receives me,”
People: And anyone who receives Christ, receives the Father who sent the Christ.
Leader: We gather together in the presence of the God who receives us with open arms, who loves us unconditionally, and who bids us do the same to one another.
People: Let’s worship God together!
*THE HYMN OF PRAISE: #475 Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing NETTLETON
The flowers are
given by
Hunter
Stallworth.
*THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Patient Lord, we want to extend the hand of welcome and friendship to all whom we meet, but you know that sometimes we shy away from reaching out. We make judgments about others based on their appearance, their family of origin, their life choices, and we neglect your mandate to be a welcoming presence. That lack of welcome extends further when we see needs that must be addressed and choose to turn our backs. We turn away from the pain and suffering, protecting our own lives. Yet you remind us that as we welcome others, so we are also welcoming you. Heal us and may we be granted the strength to welcome and love, the way you welcome and love each of us. Amen.
*THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON: (Romans 8)
Leader: Let us hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn?
People: Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us!
Leader: May we believe the good news; in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
*THE GLORIA PATRI Hymnal p. 581
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
WE LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD
TIME WITH OUR CHILDREN (No Children's Worship)
THE FIRST LESSON: Genesis 22:1-14 Pew Bible, p. 17
Leader: This is the word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
ANTHEM: Blessed is the Nation Lloyd Larson

THE PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
THE SECOND LESSON: Matthew 10:40-42 Pew Bible, p. 16
Leader: This is the word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
SERMON: "You're Welcome"
*SAYING WHAT WE BELIEVE: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. (The Apostles' Creed - Hymnal p. 35)
