“Designing, funding and building a gymnasium complex for the students”

Savanna High School is located in Anaheim, CA and part of the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD), which has a long tradition of educational service and embraces athletics as an integral part of a student’s education. Athletics teach many skills. Fair play, sportsmanship, teamwork, perseverance, an appreciation for improvement, a desire to succeed and excel, self-discipline, responsibility, leadership, and quick thinking to name just a few. All of these skills go far beyond the sports field and even beyond high school. They are skills that help make athletes “College and Career Ready.” We are all aware that participating in athletics and various activities can improve academic performance as well, but the benefits of being engaged in those pursuits goes beyond the books. Attendance increases. Students set goals. Peer-to-peer communication improves. And, unsupervised time is reduced. So, in other words, being involved in athletics is instrumental in keeping kids connected to their campuses and keeping the community safe. The first building block to facilitate this is having adequate facilities. However, Savanna has only one gym, which serves more than 2,000 students. Coaches are forced to jam in multiple girls’ and boys’ practices and games, which means the gym is being used all day long until late into the evening. In addition, the demands on the gym extend into the community, since the city of Anaheim has only three gyms for community-based programs to use. At the high school level, students make their mark as fierce competitors across a full range of twenty-three boys and girls sports. Teams compete in four different leagues and every year we have teams competing in the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) playoffs. Without question, high school athletics has the ability to unify a campus and the surrounding communities. But, for Savanna High School to be able to grow and bring these communities together, they need their facilities to expand as well. Our proposed building, The Savanna Sports Pavilion, is the solution. The Savanna Sports Pavilion will be a $74 million, 96,000 sq. ft. multi-sports facility. The Pavilion will become the new main gym and allow for the old gym to be a practice facility. In addition, a 10,000 sq. ft. outside amphitheatre will be built adjacent to the facility, which will be utilized for school and extra-curricular activities such as concerts, movies and plays. It will be built on AUHSD land with district approval already received. The foundation has been laid with all necessary district personnel who enthusiastically support the project. Savanna Sports Pavilion, Inc. (a non-profit 501(c)(3), will operate and maintain the Pavilion in cooperation with the AUHSD through funds generated by a 5% contingency reserve fund built into the overall cost of the Pavilion, as well as from fees acquired through the rental of the Pavilion. The design and plans approval process is estimated to take about 6 months, and once that approval is received, the construction phase will be approximately 18 months. But, the proposed building needs outside investor support now, rather than later. If Savanna High School waited until they raise enough money, the youth of multiple generations would lose out on all the advantages this facility can

provide. Some may suggest waiting to use bond measure funds is an option but those funds are few and far between and rarely come to fruition when you need them. Many children would miss out on great opportunities to get involved in community organizations, sports and other extracurricular activities. Our group of investors will play a significant role in contributing towards making life better for the kids of the surrounding neighbourhoods and beyond. The Savanna Sports Pavilion will be able to meet the needs of the students and be available to the community to use for a variety of programs and events. These programs include, but are not limited to:

1. Boys & Girls Clubs 2. YMCA 3. NJB (National Junior Basketball) 4. Adult Basketball Leagues 5. Adult Co-ed Volleyball Leagues 6. Youth Club Volleyball Leagues 7. Elementary Sports Leagues 8. Futsal (Indoor Soccer) 9. Church Recreational Sports Leagues 10. Badminton Leagues 11. Semi-Pro Volleyball & Basketball

12. Banquet Events 13. Corporate Events 14. Seniors Programs 15. Community Events 16. Special Ed Activities/Programs 17. Chance Theater Arts 18. Music Theater West 19. Nonosina - Polynesian Dance 20. Outdoor Concerts 21. Outdoor Movies 22. Amphitheatre Events

All of these activities, and many more, will help provide an avenue for students to get involved and give them an outlet to be a part of something bigger. Also, it will provide supervision where it otherwise would not be available, such as for single-parent families. This type of family unit that may not have had the option in the past, will now be able to benefit from organizations such as Boys & Girls Club or YMCA when they host events at The Pavilion. This project is a truly unique, ground breaking proposal that will be used as a national model for future private-public partnership ventures. When you improve a school, it will improve the surrounding neighbourhoods. There is no doubt about that. It will create a new atmosphere, new environment and help people take pride in their school and take pride in where they live. There’s a lot of talk about the need for society to step up and support public education. After all, our future rests with today’s young people. By signing on to this project, you will be making a concrete investment in the lives of countless students, and the surrounding communities, for many years to come. Imagine your brand being associated with a venture such as this.
