Italy was at the centre of the baroque musical world, with huge innovations throughout Europe in the 17th & 18th Centuries. SSEMK is delighted to announce that The Bach Players have agreed to become our Artists-in-Residence and we welcome them back with two of Bach’s much loved secular cantatas sung by two of the UK’s leading singers in the early music field. The cantatas - essentially small-scale operas for soprano and bass voices - are given in the context of his 5th Brandenburg Concerto and Canons from The Goldberg Variations.

Vladimir Waltham’s still short career has taken him worldwide including all the London concert halls and well as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. Together with Prach Boondiskulchok, they have earned high praise for their “slow-burning, gripping” performances. Their eclectic programme features the works all from the year 1796, contrasting the more lighthearted Mozart & Handel variations with the virtuosic intensity of the earlier sonatas for the genre.
