Following the success of The Knitting Project, this year we have extended the project to involve our original crafters and knitters plus other artists from the community including local schools.

As part of the #thisisme campaign thousands of handmade flowers have been created to dress the festival this year along with the infamous knitted trees!

Each flower represents the unique person that created it and is a powerful display of all the amazing folk that make up Barking and Dagenham.

#thisisme celebrates individuality, pride and self expression and tells the inspirational stories of people from our borough.

Thank you to all the knitters and artists for their time, their art

and their passion!

Further New Homes Proposed Within the London Borough of

Barking & Dagenham

Bringing High Quality New Homes to the Barking Area

Weston Homes are excited to have submitted an application for Full Planning Consent for 1,089 new homes at the former Abbey Road Retail Park. The proposal offers a unique opportunity for Weston Homes to deliver quality high specification homes alongside creating a vibrant mixed use destination within central Barking.

The redevelopment of the former Abbey Retail Park, located adjacent to the historically significant Barking Abbey Ruins and St. Margaret’s Church both within the Abbey Park, will provide:

• 1,089 new homes, including a full policy compliant provision of 35% affordable homes, combining a mixture of affordable rent, shared ownership and discount market sale units

• The new homes will be set within a high quality landscape environment including provision of a new riverside plaza and walking route along the River Roding edge

• 2,204m2 of commercial space, centred around the new riverside plaza, with new leisure venues including restaurants, cafès and bars

• 1,071m2 of employment space to support new start-ups and existing established local businesses

• A new 637m2 gymnasium and 353m2 community facility
