Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, People of Our Lady, Mother of the Church Parish, Although last week I did not write my letter for the bulletin because of my trip, there was a good example of the gospel reading about good soil. Namely, an Eagle Scout project—a landscaping restoration by the south wall of our church—being done by Joey and Troop 922. The new shrubs

need good soil. The word of God will also not stay alive in us if our hearts are not a cultivated ground. The landscaping project is one of many good jobs performed by Boy Scout Troop 922 at our parish. Next Sunday we will celebrate a special recognition of Scout Troop 922 at the 11 o’clock Mass. We will pray for the blessings on boy scouts under the guidance of Keith Kinslow and Karen Geller, and for all their families, and supporters. Summer time with its quiet pace is a good time to perform different projects at our parish. One of the big pro-jects—part of our To Teach Who Christ Is (TTWCI) campaign—window replacement in Hayes Center, is scheduled for the month of August. We will start with four big windows on the north side on the first floor, and then we will do three big windows on the other side of the building. Total cost of the project is almost $80,000. Thanks to your contribution to the TTWCI campaign, the funds are already in the account. That project should bring us some savings on energy bills during both seasons – at the time of heating, and at the time of cooling. We pay yearly for the energy – electricity and gas – something around $36k - $38k. That’s a lot of money! Savings will help with finances, but there are operational expenses needed to run the parish which we cannot avoid and these rely on your weekly contributions. Last Sunday collections were real-ly low. I encourage you to support with your money the vitality of Our Lady, Mother of the Church. Every penny counts. Thank you!

May God bless you,

Fr. Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement

We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... ♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… ♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

NURSES NOTES . . . . . I realized a few years ago that what I have been hearing from my elders is indeed true: The older we get the faster life goes by. You may feel Summer has just begun but look around you; Vacations are already planned, or over; the sun is-n’t out as late anymore and school supplies are already on the shelves; a sure sign that Fall is just around the corner. I can’t believe I have been with you for six month and I’m just getting my feet wet. There are so many things I would like to assist with, from securing an AED for the Church/ Narthex to providing educational materials to help you become more health conscious. October 29th is Power Sunday for World Stroke Day and I would like to offer a program where we assess your risk fac-tors for stroke and provide necessary information to begin lifestyle changes to minimize these factors. In order to do this, I need to plan ahead. I am seeking health care professionals who can volunteer their time for the Saturday night and /or Sunday Mass time to assist in the assessment process (ask questions, gather baseline information, assess BMI’s, take B/P’s etc.). If you are willing and able to work with me on this great endeavor, please email me at [email protected] or simply call the office 773-625-3369 and leave me a message. We will have a plan-ning session ( or two) before the event day. Thank you for allowing me into your homes, hospital or nursing home rooms to Minister to your health and spiritual needs. Now relax, enjoy the day God has given you and Live life fully, One Day at a Time. Peace, Terri Terri Kaisling, MBA, BSN, RN Faith Community Nurse Our Lady, Mother of the Church 8747 W. Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 23, 2017

We are excited to announce that work will begin in the next couple of weeks on the installation of the Windows in Hayes Center on the first floor, which was one of the projects we identified during To Teach Who Christ Is. The replacement of the 1st floor Hayes Center windows should take approxi-mately a week to ten days. With many of the windows inoperable, broken and not energy efficient the new windows will not only look better but save us money as well. As you may know, Our Lady, Mother of the Church receives its share of campaign funds as pledg-es are paid. To date, $85,903 has been returned to us, which we are directing to this window re-

placement project. As more pledges are fulfilled, we will let you know when our next project will begin. If you wish to help us reach our goal and fulfill our other projects, it is not too late to commit, please fill out a pledge form which can be found in the narthex or call the rectory at 773-625-3369 for more information. If you have a question about your pledge, please contact the To Teach Who Christ Is fulfillment office at 312.534.8500 or go to toteachwhochristis.org.

Have no fear, I am only traveling! Before my hire date at Our Lady, Mother of the Church, I had made plans

to travel for the summer! I will be out of the office from July 12 to August 17. Feel free to email me if you

have any questions and I will try to get back to you ASAP during my time away. Otherwise, please contact

the parish or liturgy offices for urgent matters. Have a wonderful and safe summer! I will see you all again in August.
