holy Easter. May the Resurrected Christ be visible in
our parish and community through our actions of love
and care.
In a novel titled, “The Apostle”, the closing scene is set in a dungeon in Rome. Hundreds of Christians have been lowered through a trap door into a pit where they will stay till they are lead into the arena where they will die. It is a place of darkness and horror. Suddenly the trap door opens and there is a shaft of light caught for a brief moment as a man is lowered. As he descends into this place of darkness and death, he is singing songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. The word spreads like wildfire. It is Paul. Paul has come. And Paul’s joy is so contagious that before long he has all the people singing songs. There is a whole new spirit within them. The author of the novel describes this as New Testament spirit - even in the darkest corners of life God gives His people joy. In times like ours, it is easy to get bogged down in a mood of despair. Problems are all around us and man’s inhumanity to man is shocking and sinful. It is easy to see only the bad side of things. We can find ourselves being pulled down into a whirlpool of negative talk and despair. That is why it is so important for you and me on this Sacred Day to celebrate the great moment of Christ’ Resurrection. We proclaim with the angel at the tomb: “Alleluia! He is not here. He has been raised. He is alive and awaits you.” My dear friends, because of Easter we can be a people of joy. Christ rose and walks with us. The Resurrection is not a past event. It is a lived reality. We are the apple of God’s eye. We have been healed, restored, forgiven and redeemed. In our moments of darkness and pain, we will always hear the risen Jesus say to us: “Take courage. Do not be afraid for I am with you.” The joy of Easter comes not just from words but from the truth. A favorite song puts it this way: “When you’re weary, feeling small, when tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all. I’m on your side when things get rough and friends just can’t be found. Like a bridge over troubled waters I will lay me down. When you’re down and out, when you’re on the street, when evening falls so hard, I will comfort you. I’ll take part when darkness comes and pain is all around. Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.” My dear friends, let us be as people of Easter joy every day of our lives. God bless you. Father Tom

Divine Mercy: Next Sunday, April 8th, we will celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy which was instituted by Saint John Paul II in 2000. The celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday is an opportunity to reflect on the theme of how God’s mercy can overcome
sin. The message of mercy is that God loves us – all of us – no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. Please join us next Sunday to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet at
3:00 pm in the church.

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER
APRIL 8, 2018
Reading Acts 4:32-35
What a beautiful way to live! Many times to live as
such, but breaks down How we put our faith in others.
The community of believers was of one heart and
mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions
was his own, but they had everything in common.
With great power the apostles bore witness
to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus,
and great favor was accorded them all.
There was no needy person among them,
for those who owned property or houses would sell
them, bring the proceeds of the sale,
and put them at the feet of the apostles,
and they were distributed to each according to need.
Psalm Ps 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24 How do these people have “His mercy endur(ing) forever”?
It’s through faith in Him. We all know that Jesus is that cor-
nerstone, but who were the builders? Alleluia!
Let the house of Israel say, "His mercy endures for-
ever." Let the house of Aaron say,
"His mercy endures forever."
Let those who fear the LORD say,
"His mercy endures forever."
R. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love
is everlasting. I was hard pressed and was falling, but the LORD
helped me.
My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has
been my savior. The joyful shout of victory in the tents
of the just:
R. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love
is everlasting. The stone which the builders rejected has become the
cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done;
it is wonderful in our eyes. This is the day the LORD
has made;let us be glad and rejoice in it.
R. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love
is everlasting.
Reading Acts 4:32-35
Beloved:
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is be-
gotten by God,
and everyone who loves the Father
loves also the one begotten by him.
In this way we know that we love the children of God
when we love God and obey his commandments.
For the love of God is this,
that we keep his commandments.
And his commandments are not burdensome,
for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world.
And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.
Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one
who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is the
one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ,
not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit
is the one that testifies, and the Spirit is truth.
Alleluia Jn 20:29
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me,
says the Lord; Blessed are those who have not seen me, but
still believe!
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Jn 20:19-31
The Church is formed. The Holy Spirit has been received! Do you need to see the holes in Jesus to believe? How is it that so many of believe? On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them,
"Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his
hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the
Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father
has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he
breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you
retain are retained." Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve,
was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to
him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see
the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail-
marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." Now a
week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with
them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in
their midst and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Tho-
mas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand
and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe."
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus
said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen
me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
Now Jesus did many other signs in the pres-
ence of his disci- ples that are not written in
this book. But these are written that you
may come to be- lieve that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God, and that through this belief
you may have life in his name.
WEEKLY SCRIPTURES & THOUGHTS
For the Parish Family of Saint Christine
6
Some Thoughts: Does anyone ever ask you for identi-
fication? It happens to me all the time. When I go into
a store to buy something and I want to pay for it with a
check, the cashier takes my check and then asks, "May
I see your driver's license please?" Why does the cash-
ier need to see my driver's license? The answer is quite
simple. The cashier wants to see if I match the picture
on the driver's license. Am I really who I claim to be?
There may be other times when you will be asked for
identification. You may need a picture ID to get a li-
brary card. You might even need a picture ID to sign
up for youth soccer. Many schools are now requiring
students and teachers to wear a picture ID at school.
Almost every day we are asked to prove that we are
who we say we are.
On the Sunday that Jesus rose from the grave, he ap-
peared to a group of his disciples. One of the disciples,
whose name was Thomas, was not with them. When
the disciples told Thomas that they had seen Jesus and
that he was alive, Thomas said, "I won't believe it until
I see it with my own eyes. I want to see the nail-prints
in his hands and put my hand in the place where the
spear was thrust into his side."
A week later, Jesus appeared to his disciples again.
This time Thomas was there. Jesus said to Thomas,
"Put your finger here; see my hands. Put your hand
into my side. Stop doubting and believe." Then Tho-
mas believed!
A lot of people today won't believe that Jesus really
rose from the grave because they haven't seen him
with their own two eyes. They want "proof of identity"
before they will believe. Jesus said, "Blessed are they
who have not seen, and yet have believed."
How about you? Do you have to have "proof of iden-
tity" before you will believe in Jesus, or will you ac-
cept him by faith?
Do you truly believe He is Risen? It truly matters for
all of our eternity!
Here’s a couple of ways to help remember that Jesus is
here. Find the Words below and circle them!—
