Welcome to the very first issue of Great Ryrie’s Festival of Colour newsletter. The fete committee will be publishing a newsletter at regular intervals to keep you up to date with everything that is going on to make this day a success. Each class has been assigned a stall to run, under the coordination of a generous team of parents. But we will also need help with many other items, so keep an eye out for the ‘SHOUT OUTS’ section at the right of the page – the idea is to run a quality event whilst still raising funds for the school, and we will be looking for volunteers to help out at workshops, people who can connect us with businesses that can provide equipment and services, donations and more!! If this is the first time you have been involved with the fete, or you would like to become more involved, have a chat with your Fete Committee coordinators – Barb Nicoll, Silvia Ercole and Dee Skinner – or you can speak to your child’s teacher. All parents who have been involved with the fete are very welcoming and supportive. It is also a really special way of getting to know other families that leads to long-term friendships. We need a small team of people to assist to coordinate proper food handling procedures on the food stalls. You don’t need any prior experience for this - we will make sure that you are fully aware of what you need to do at a couple of information sessions. We are also in need of outdoor tables, chairs and umbrellas – if anyone has links with a company that hires or sells this type of thing and could do us a great deal, please get in touch. Please start saving up any paper boutique shopping bags that you could donate to the second hand clothing store. We need clean, empty jars with lids for jams/preserves to be sold at the cake stall. If you have some of suitable size to bring along, please drop them at the office. Marg McHardy has again taken on the huge job of White Elephant stall coordinator. Every Wednesday afternoon from 3.15 -3.45pmin Term 3, the Big Shed will be open for you to drop off quality, reusable goods, e.g. toys, homewares, clothing, accessories etc. N.B. No electricals. Thanks Marg! Hampers: As in past years, we would like to put together a series of themed hampers for raffle/spinning wheel prizes. We will ask everyone to donate an item for these hampers, which make very attractive prizes. Themes for the hampers will be announced at the start of Term 3. Mystery Bags This year, instead of the Mystery Jars that we have had at previous fetes, Gaby Witherspoon is coordinating a Mystery Bags Stall, with grade 1/2H. To make this a success we need donations of small, quality, new items to go inside the bags.

Each bag will be priced at $1 - $3, and we want people to feel they have got good value for money. Some ideas could be – wrapped lollies (eg. lollipops, small choc bars, freddo frogs), small stationery items (eg. erasers, pens, note pads, pencils), novelty prizes (eg. loom bands, packets of footy cards, marbles, hair accessories, lego figurines, bouncy balls). Please no old or used items (eg. unwanted soft toys etc), no McDonald’s or similar “freebie” items, and no unwrapped lollies or food items as these do not meet health regulations. Think about the things your child would like to find in a mystery bag!

So get your thinking hats on and think of some exciting things to donate! Donations can be made at Room 1/2H or at the office.

Do you know of a company or business that would be willing to donate items/vouchers for our Festival of Colour Raffle? If so,

please get in contact with the school office or a committee member.

Workshops at Dee’s Place Each Wednesday morning of the school term a group of helpers have been meeting at Dee’s place to work on crafts and other ideas for the Festival of Colour. This is a great chance to get to know other parents/carers and to contribute to the Fete so feel free to join us in Term 3. Email or call the committee for details.
