Saturday 27 th August 2016 PREMIER LEAGUE Mens Premier Alliance vs Hale (Won 6 - 1) Goals: D. Ogden (3), A. McIntyre, D. McEntee, J. Ross 3s v's Hale, quite late and quite cold. Watched a disappointing end to the 1s but sure Russ has dealt with that and then a good win by a depleted 2s side leaving the 3s to play. Another week of selection headaches with 5 or 6 changes but expectations did not change. Newbies to 3s fitted into the half court press better this week and rebounds were quicker and more measured. Hale had a couple of ok players but not likely to win when best on field is the 1s GK playing centre half. He did bring a 60m overhead which was fun to watch. Bottom line we won 6-1. As always could have been more but not many. Simple chances were tapped in after 6 or 7 passes opened up a free player. Field goals to Dmac, Amac and Jamie. The rest were scored by Oggy. 2 SC drags and another that resulted in a PF which he also scored. Think he has you covered Jay Testar. On the side line trying to manage the game it was great to see Chris Earl, Aiden Van Zuylen and Kyle Potter hold the ball so confidently, Jamie and Josh carry the ball through lines and into strong positions and lastly - leading payers who secured base line T spots were given the ball. Well played and roll on the last round before beating UWA again. 1

PROVISIONAL LEAGUE Ladies Provisional 1 vs YMCC (Won 3 - 0) Best: M. Woodforde, N. Matthews, C. Surman Goals: C. Surman (2), M. Northover Taking on a strong opponent in YM, the girls had to bring their A game. Some would say they did just that, coming away with a 3-0 victory to cement our place at the top of the ladder. The passing and connections between lines was pleasing to see, as we seem to be coming into come form at the back end of the season!

Tearne was called into action during the game, just once, to make a save after Lauren didn't take the player on the spot, but as always T kept it out. Morgan played a fabulous game once again, and Izzy continues to thrive in the midfield. Keep up the good work girls, we have a few tough games ahead before we can think about finals!

Ladies Provisional 4 (Black) Best: B. Clifford, E. Hopkins, C. Bird Goals: B. Irvine When things within the team work together then positive results are sure to follow. It was easy to stand back and watch how well this team can play. Our strikers had a great day pressuring the oppositions defence and being accountable within the attacking D creating both opportunities on goal and penalty corners. The midfield held firm, the press was exceptional and passing was both effective and well executed. Off ball work was commendable as well as communication and overall effort. Our defence was tireless and worked all day without any respite, especially when our subs were cut due to injury. Composure and the ability to reset were a key. This team effort lead to an outstanding win, congratulations to all.

METRO LEAGUELadies Metro 1 vs Harlies Wanneroo (Won 4 - 1) Best: M. Farrow, E. Biss, H. Doyle Goals: L. Anderson (2), D. Murphy (2) Great win girls you all played like superstars! With lots of our regular players out, we even managed to score whilst we had a player in the naughty chair. Thanks to Lisa, Olive and Helen for joining the fun today. Get excited...1 week to go...time to get your banners and cheer squads organised, finals here we come!!!

VETERANS LEAGUELadies O35 Division 4 vs Fremantle (Won 3 - 1) Best: H. Doyle, K. Sparkes, C. Smith Goals: K. Sparkes (2), G. Hogg Great win girls, this should secure our place in the finals. So many shots on goal with some that we thought went in, others went in and were not allowed, and many just missed or were straight at the goalie. Loads of ohhs and ahhs from the bench but a great game and some great teamwork by all.

Mens O40 Division 2 vs Lions (Won 4 - 1) Best: S. Chapman, J. Holt, T. Heard Goals: T. Heard (2), D. Doak, A. Shearing From Crabs to Crayfish. We have secured our spot in the finals. Next week we take on Hale to see if we can make 2nd place. Well done fellas. The clever stuff begins now.

Mens O40 Division 4 vs Lions 4 (Drew 3 - 3) Best: P. Brennan, J. Baker, S. Criddle Goals: S. Pszczola, B. Kennington, J. Baker A hard fought balanced match with plenty of opportunities. Lions 4 began the match in fine form playing strongly and creating many opportunities placing Melvilles defence under significant pressure. Melville was able to widthstand this pressure and slowly began to gain ascendency. This was rewarded with 2 quick goals mid way through the first half. Lions struck back strongly near the end of the first half score a goal to bring the game back on more equal terms. The second half began much like the first with Lions creating many chances and being rewarded with an equalizer early in the half. The game them bounced between the two defences until late in the second half Melville pulled ahead with a goal. Lions did not give up and equalized just before full time. The game ended in a draw. 3-3

Mens O50 Division 1 vs Aquinians (Lost 0 - 1) Best: R. Achemedei, M. Watson, G. Currie We played a strong game but were unable to score from the many shots and short corners. A dissappointing end to the game with our structure failing in the last seconds of the game and an opposition goal the result.

Mens O50 Division 2 (Gold) vs Frematle (Won 3 - 2) Best: B. Morrison, B. Bocking, A. Starling Goals: A. Spear, A. Starling, G. Hunt A good win to consolidate second on the ladder. Bring on Wolves in the semi. Slats, when the game time is 2pm it is advisable to turn up before that time, not 10 minutes after.

Mens O50 Division 3 vs Westside Wolves (Won 3 - 0) Best: R. Knyn, D. Stonehouse, E. Nell Goals: M. Hudson, R. Knyn, A. Wood We made life difficult in the first half not making much of our opportunities. The second half was much better with a bag of 3 goals. The move of Gonzo to full back was a masterstroke in the final 10 minutes. Good win that guarantees us 2nd spot.

Mens O60 Division vs Vic Park (Lost 1 - 9) Best: G. Riley, G. Bowater/B. Porter, G. Wood Goals: B. Porter Our worst defeat of the season! Our opponents in the first half they were relentless especially the centre half (Australia Masters player) and their 2 inside forwards. We tightened up in the second half but the horse had well and truly bolted with 6 goals on the board. This team was only 4th on the ladder. I believe when we play a top 4 side we should focus on defence first and just keep possession as long as possible.

JUNIORS Girls 5/6A vs Vic Park (Drew 1 - 1) No report

Boys 5/6A Promotion vs OGMHC (Lost 1 - 2) Goals: M. Horrocks A close game with both teams creating chances. Melville's positioning was good to see. It was also good to have a game on the turf.

Boys 5/6C (Gold) vs Canning (Lost 0 - 5) We travelled to Guildford for our one and only turf game for the season. There was high excitement and nervousness within the team, as well as pouring rain. Unfortunately, the boys structure fall away a bit and positions weren’t held well. However, the score wasn’t reflective of their fight to the end. The boys tackled a lot more this week and maintained good pressure, although Canning were just too strong and played a very clean strong game. Good effort boys!

Girls 5/6C vs Westside Wolves - Pink (Drew 1 - 1) Best: M. Bond, C. Davies, S. Sherriffs Goals: S. Huston Our first game on the turf was very evenly matched as reflected by the score. Scarlett scored our first and only goal in the first half. We had many attempts in the attacking D but unfortunately could not convert to any more goals. Caitlin had a great game running up and down the pitch and positioning herself very well in the attacking D. Meika had a very solid game and showed great confidence throughout the game with great stopping and passing. Sophie was calm and reliable in defence and put great pressure on opposition when they had the ball. The girls played very well today and show improvement in each game as individuals and as a team.
