The much-awaited schedule for the

forthcoming Maha-rashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) Exams for Class X and XII, al-ready delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was announced by Ma-harashtra School Edu-cation Minister, Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday.

As per the Education Minister, the MSBSHSE Class XII (HSC) writ-ten exams for General Stream (Science, Com-merce and Arts) to be held in the morning and evening sessions, will be between 23rd April and 29th May later this year, and for MSBSHSE Class X (SSC) it will be-tween 29th April, 2021 and 31st May, 2021. The results of the same are however expected to be announced in July-end and August-end respec-tively.

She also added that the final date sheet or exams schedule for the

Board Exams will be released for public dis-semination on the MSB-SHSE website soon.

Around 13 lakh stu-dents are expected to appear for HSC Board Exams while 17 lakh candidates will appear for SSC Exam which

be conducted in compli-ance with the COVID-19 norms.

As may be recalled the Maharashtra MSB-SHSE Board has already reduced the syllabus by 25 per cent in order to avoid burden on the stu-dents.

kindle imagination and creativity in children, we decided to develop ‘Bookzania’, a play zone on the theme of books,” said Mr. Lad.

This world of books would consist of a book shaped play area with book shaped swings, slides and other games for the children. There would be also be a mo-bile book van that will take children on a plea-sure tour. Many games like ludo and chess tables would be installed. The children would have to take the dice or the chess pawns from the mobile van to start playing.

"Bookzania is a proj-ect which will include a lot of book related play installations which will help the children to in-culcate the habit of read-ing and enjoying books. The theme based park, which is being devel-oped at a cost of Rs. 1 crore 25 lakhs, is likely to be completed by the end of May, 2021,” said Avinash Lad.

The Bookzania would also have a cor-ner for the senior citi-zens. Usually, it is seen that the children come to the parks along with the grandparents and hence a corner is being planned for them where they can have a chit-chat session, said Mr. Lad.

Speaking about the project, architect of Bookzania, Aseem Gokarn Harwansh, prin-cipal consultant of AGH designs said, "There is the usual complaints by the parents that the chil-dren these days are al-ways hooked on to their gadgets and refrain from going out. During the pandemic, this tendency became more promi-nent as the schools were closed and everyone was at home. The idea of ‘Bookzania’ is in-spired from the ancient culture of gurukuls. We decided to create some-thing, which is close to nature and exciting at the same time. Even to-day, people love to read

a book under the tree. The playful area will have book related play items like a zzswing coming out of a book or an upside-down book slide, or a book climber. There would be upside-down book which would look like a tent below which the children can sit, read and play. The ‘Bookzania’ would also be disabled friendly. Apart from that, there will be painting corners as well."

“It is indeed a novel idea and would definite-ly be liked by both the children as well as the adults. NMMC should develop more such theme based parks,” said a resident of Vashi.

drives will not suffice. The authorities need to take stringent measures against illegal dumping of construction debris,” said Sunita Sharma, a resident from Vashi.

“In Ulwe, which is developing at a rapid pace, developmental works are being under-taken. Many societies in Ulwe Sector-17 do not even have the dust-bins and the garbage is littered all over the place. This is also one of the reasons for rising mosquito population,” informed Niket Gharat, a resident of Krishna Tower in Ulwe Sector-16.

“We are aware of the problem and out try-ing to make the nodes mosquito free, but it will take time. As Ulwe and many other parts are at developing stage, the construction work can-not be stopped. Once the construction work slows down, we will take cleaning work ag-gressively,” said Priya Ratambe, Public Rela-tionship Officer of CI-DCO.

The members of the Bharati-ya Janata Party (BJP), Navi

Mumbai along with the citizens staged protest on Friday, 22 Jan-uary, 2021 against the decision of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government to increase power tariffs and forcibly recover out-standing payment from the con-sumers.

BJP district president Ram-chandra Gharat, former mayor Jaywant Sutar, former mayor Sa-gar Naik, former mayor Sudhakar Sonawane, former house leader Ravindra Ithape, former oppo-sition leader Dashrath Bhagat, senior corporator Anant Sutar, former corporator Netra Shirke, Shubhangi Patil, BJP office bear-ers Satish Nikam and others were present.

“BJP strongly opposes this autocratic attitude of the ruling state government and demands cancellation of the new increased

tariff. The decision to collect the electricity bill arrears should also be withdrawn,” demanded Ram-chandra Gharat.

Netra Shirke criticized the Maha Vikas Aghadi government for raising power tariffs during the pandemic, when most of the citizens are reeling under finan-cial crisis.

“The promise made by the alliance government to waive electricity bills up to 300 units turned out to be mere eyewash. It is the duty of the government to provide relief to the people in difficult times, but this govern-ment has decided to destroy the people”, said Dashrath Bhagat.

It may be recalled that MVA government has directed the Maharashtra State Electric-ity Distribution Company Lim-ited (MSEDCL) to recover power bills from the citizens and imme-diately cut off power supply for non-payment of arrears.

“We have been demanding that the MSEDL should waive off power bills for the entire COVID lockdown period. People lost their jobs and the financial burden on citizens has taken a massive toll on their lives. In such critical times, the Maha-rashtra Power Ministry made a mockery of citizens’ hardships by announcing there will be no waiver in the inflated electric-ity bills and the consumers will have to pay the bills. And now the MSEDC is planning to cut power supply. In Navi Mumbai, all our party workers and former corporators who staged a protest against MSEDC were booked by the police. But this will not stop us. We are more determined than before. We will go to jail without bail, if need be, but will not al-low the MVA to autocratically impose such harsh decisions on the citizens of Navi Mumbai,” said Anant Sutar.

After getting award-ed as the no.1 post

(NMMC) ‘Bottle for Change’ initiative, the post office would also start segregating plastic for which Shreya Su-dhir, a member of ‘Bot-tle for Change’ initiative conducted a seminar with the postmen and the other officials of the post office.

The postmen assured that they will also mo-

tivate other post offices and societies to segre-gate plastic, wet waste and dry waste sepa-rately. Janhavi Huilgol, head of the post office, node 3, Nerul said, “We will not only segregate the waste but will also spread awareness about this through the postmen who deliver posts in var-ious parts of the city.”

The vaccination drive that is being

undertaken across the country has raised a ray of hope among the citizens. Since the pandemic situation is continuing with a declining trend, many of the people are plan-ning a short vacation to nearby places.

“Winter is the sea-son when many like to go out with the family. The main idea is to go away and spend some quality time. However, as the pandemic is still not over, it is crucial to follow guidelines set forth by the central and state government. The travellers should follow mandates of wearing mask, hand sanitiza-tion, keep social dis-tancing for their own safety,” shared a tour operator from Nerul.

“We carried our own container of spray sanitizer along with us for our own safety,” in-formed Koperkhairane resident Aditi Ghosh who had recently gone on a five day trip along with family to Malvan and Tarkali with an aim to escape from the monotony of home isolation.

Ghosh shared, “As pandemic situation is still going on and keep-ing in mind the safety of the entire family, we preferred for a home stay instead of a hotel. We chose a rented home for five days near sea beach. As it was a complete home, so we were able to follow all mandates including cleanliness, sanitiza-tion, changing of bed sheets, pillow covers as per our convenience. For dining, we pre-ferred to go to a local Dhaba, where the food was served piping hot and was cooked in front

of us.” Interestingly, beach-

es seem to be beating hills as preferred loca-tion for the Navi Mum-baikars. Beach and seashores are the hot favourites for most of the travellers and they feel bathing in the sea water is most refresh-ing to escape fatigue.

“Mental fatigue was more than physical fa-tigue”, shared Sushweta

and Susmit, the couple who chose to for seven days to Goa to escape from the tediousness of work from home, which every professional is battling with caused by the unprecedented Covid pandemic as well as Covid 19 induced lockdown.

“Goa is known for its beauty and calm-ness, but everywhere police patrolling was a

cause of concern. The Government does its best to catch the offend-ers who are not wearing mask, but sometimes that caused irritation to the travelers,” they shared. They carried their own sanitizer as safety measure.

Vashi resident Anagha and Vijay Kamate took a trip to South India, particu-larly to Kanyakumari

to avail a relaxing holiday traversing across the sea beach. They revealed, “We followed all the regu-lations while taking flight to and fro our destination. The hotels are keeping cleanliness as their priority along with safety measures for the holidaying people, so we were safe and had a pleasant tour altogether.”

Lasith Malinga, one of the greatest bowling sensations of Indian Pre-

mier League, who has been the core of Mumbai Indians (MI) attack for over a decade, has announced his retirement early this month.

The 37-year-old Sri Lankan speed-ster known for his slinging action, toe crunching yorkers and curly bleached hair, has been a part of the most suc-cessful franchise in the history of IPL since its second season. Malinga who missed only two editions - 2018 and 2020 has been the fan favourite over the years, whose chants of Malinga, Malin-ga, Malinga… has reverberated the sta-dia across the country in particular the Wankhede Stadium, the home base of Mumbai Indians and the DY Patil Inter-national Stadium, Navi Mumbai too.

Being the highest wicket-taker in the tournament's history with 170 scalps, from 122 appearances for Mumbai In-dians, Malinga has also served as the bowling mentor in 2018, before mak-ing a successful comeback post knee injury to lead the attack once again, that saw Mumbai franchise win their fourth title after they defeated three times champions Chennai Super Kings by one run, under Rohit Shar-ma’s leadership. Defending nine off six deliveries, the veteran pacer Malinga who had conceded 42 in his first three overs, trapped Shardul Thakur leg before off the last ball, that turned out to be his and the 2019 IPL edition tourney’s fi-nal delivery of the competition which triggered celebrations in the Mumbai camp. The former Sri Lankan skipper who has represented various other T20 franchises around the world of the likes of Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, Khulna Tigers, Melbourne Stars and Rangpur Riders, Malinga with 390 wickets in 295 matches, is only the sec-ond behind West Indies ace all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the list of leading T20 wicket-takers.

The veteran Lasith Ma-linga who played a key role in mentoring India’s cur-rent ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah in his formative years and others during his association with the Mum-bai Indians, on the occa-sion said “After discussing with family, I think now is the right time to retire from all franchise cricket. The Pandemic situation and the restrictions on travel will make it difficult for

me given my personal circumstances to participate fully in franchise cricket for the next year and therefore it is best to make this decision now.

He further added that he had dis-cussed the same with Mumbai Indians management in recent days and was thankful to the Ambani family, the own-ers of Mumbai Indians franchise, all its members and its fans for the wonderful 12 years.

"Mumbai Indians has treated me like family, supporting me 100 % in ev-ery situation both on and off the field, and always giving me the confidence and the freedom to play my natural game whenever I walked onto the field. I have collected so many happy memo-ries that I cherish and I am very grateful to have played for so long for the best franchise in world cricket. I would like to wish Mrs Nita Ambani, coach Ma-hela (Jayawardene), Akash (Ambani) and the MI family all the best for the upcoming season,” said Malinga.

Akash Ambani, Team Owner, Mum-bai Indians, "Lasith Malinga has been at the core of Mumbai Indians for 12 years. We respect his decision, even though I would have liked to him to be part of our bowling attack for another 5 years."

He further said "Malinga is an MI legend. His contri-butions to Mumbai Indians' journey are invaluable. We will miss the Wankhede chant for him, but he will always be in the heart of all MI fans. At Mumbai Indians, Malinga

will always be a part of the MI family and we hope we can continue to lean on his experience in a non-playing capac-ity in the future."

“Truly a match winner, his (Ma-linga) presence around the squad will be missed” said Rohit Sharma under whom Mumbai Indians also won their record fifth IPL title in UAE last year.

With the land ac-quired by the

City and Industrial Development Corpora-tion (CIDCO) from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), the way has been cleared for 11,000 project-affected people to get 12.5 per cent developed land. As per the order of Urban Development Minister, Eknath Shinde, CIDCO has completed the pro-cess and a Memoran-dum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between JNPT and CI-DCO. The entire cost of developing these plots will be borne by JNPT and these plots will be transferred to the project affected people through CIDCO.

Unlike CIDCO's project victims, JNPT

did not offer a 12.5 per cent plots to project vic-tims. For the last several years, more than 11,000 projects had been de-manding that JNPT should also implement this scheme on the lines of CIDCO. Finally in 2014, a plan was imple-mented to give 12.5 per cent of developed plots under the scheme to the JNPT project victims.

After taking over the charge of urban devel-opment department last year, Minister Shinde directed CIDCO to take immediate action to ad-dress the issue of the project affected people. Accordingly, Managing Director of CIDCO, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee and JNPT Chairman Sanjay Sethi initiated efforts to resolve the issue on a pri-

ority basis. After com-pleting all the necessary submissions and admin-istrative procedures, now a memorandum of understanding has been signed between CIDCO and JNPT, which will provide relief to 11,000 project affected people.

JNPT will bear the cost of the civic ameni-ties as such as develop-ment of roads, lighting etc. in these plots and the work will be done through CIDCO. Each of these plots is of 2,000 square meters and will get two floor area indi-ces. “It is hoped that the development of the en-tire area will boost em-ployment opportunities and will pave the way to progress for the lo-cal Bhumiputras,” said Shinde.

Compared to the other parts of the country, vaccination drive

is progressing quite smoothly in Navi Mumbai and the turnout of the scheduled recipients is impressive. On Wednesday, 91% health care workers had received the jab. The figure would have been higher as 13 people with various health issues (including lactating mothers, people with allergy etc.) were not given the vaccination shots.

However, the slow progress of the drive across the country is wor-risome. There is hesitancy over the safety and efficacy of Covaxin, In-dia’s homegrown coronavirus vac-cine developed by Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council of Medical Research. Presently, two vaccines, Covishield, manufactured by Serum Institute of India using the Oxford-AstraZeneca’s master seed, and Co-vaxin currently have emergency use approval in India. Of these two, Co-vishield was granted approval based on data from the UK drugs regula-tor, while Covaxin has no efficacy data because the third phase of its

clinical trial is still underway.Healthcare workers have ex-

pressed concern over being admin-istered shots of Covaxin. While, several senior doctors and private hospitals have advocated for the use of the vaccine on social media and elsewhere, still hesitancy continues.

Besides hesitancy and lack of trust in the vaccine, glitches in the Co-Win app are also delaying the vaccination drive.

Undoubtedly, vaccination is nec-essary as we do not know when a second wave can potentially start as various other countries have wit-nessed a second and a third wave with severe cases or a more infec-tious strain. There is a need to create more awareness and building confi-dence among people. Concerted ef-forts should be made to allay appre-hension, if any, from the minds of people and prominent personalities, including the Prime Minister and the Chief Ministers should come forward to take the vaccine. This will go a long way in inspiring the beneficiaries.

Pay respect to National flagRepublic Day is a special day for India, celebrated annually as a national

festival to honour the day when the Constitution of India came into force (26 January 1950).

Our National flag is a symbol of the nation’s pride and respect. There is liberal use of the flag on Independence Day and Republic Day. There is a new trend of selling flags made of paper and plastic, which is incorrect. With a sense of national pride, people enthusiastically buy such flags but the very next day, we find them being trampled upon on the roads and thrown into dustbins. By allowing this to happen, people forget that they are insulting the country's flag.

Often, these flags are burnt along with the garbage. It is the duty of ev-ery Indian citizen to maintain proper respect towards their National flag. We also commonly see people waving the National flag proudly during national, cultural and sporting events. However, once the programme or the event gets over, we see the flags strewn all over the place. This disrespect towards our flag must be stopped.

Even when the national anthem is being played on radio or on television, people don’t stand still and sing along. They are busy cooking in the kitchen or are busy talking on their mobile phones. As Indians, we should respect our country’s national flag, national anthem and national song.

Vashi police have arrested a gang involved in taking home loans

through fake documents and duping banks and finance companies of lakhs of rupees. Suresh Mengde, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Circle-1, said the gang was involved in nine cases in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

The four arrested in the case are Shridhar Narola (43), Satyen Yashwant Padwal alias Sanjay Sunil Sawant (45), Hitesh Ved alias Sanjay Sunil Sawant (50) and Pawan Sinha alias Ajay Shetty (45). The members of this gang used fake PAN card, Aadhaar card and opened accounts in various banks to avail loans. The gang would then arrange a deal to buy flat from a builder, pay him a token amount of Rs 2 lakh and enter into a sale agree-ment and would ask the builder to give them time to pay the remaining money. They later created fake copies of agreement with the builder and ap-plied to various banks as well as non-banking finance companies for loans. Once the verification was completed and the loan was passed, the gang diverted the money to another fake account opened by them and would

withdraw the cash. In a similar man-ner, the gang had defrauded Bajaj Fi-nance Company in 2018.

After the case was registered at Vashi police station, Assistant Inspec-tor Jayant Rajurkar, Sachin Dhage and his team under the guidance of senior police inspector, Sanjeev Dhumal started investigating the case. The in-vestigation revealed that the gang had tried to open a new fake account in a bank. Based on the available docu-ments and technical investigation, the police found the main accused and pursued him for 3 to 4 months and arrested Shridhar Narola from Mira Road. During interrogation Narola revealed the names of Satyen Padwal, Hitesh Ved alias Sanjay and Pawan Sinha alias Ajay.

Meanwhile, a search is on for the woman involved with the gang. An in-vestigation has revealed that the gang had duped ICICI and Bajaj Finance companies as well. Although 9 crimes committed by the gang have been un-covered, the gang, it is speculated may have cheated several banks in Mum-bai, Navi Mumbai area in a similar manner, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Suresh Mengde.

January, 2021, around three crore people were served Shivbhojan thali in the state of Maha-rashtra, said Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protec-tion, Chhagan Bhujbal.

As per the sugges-tion from Chief Minis-ter Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Bhojan Yojana, an ambitious programme of Mahavikas Aghadi

government, was started so that the poor farmers, labourers and students of the state do not go hungry. The scheme was launched in the state on January 26, 2020. The thali was priced at Rs. 10, how-ever, in the backdrop of the Covid 19 pandemic, the rate was reduced to 5. The discounted rate will be applicable till March, 2021.

There are 848 Shiv Bhojan centres in the

state and the scheme is being implemented till the taluka level.

The Ulwe Social Group, a Non-Gov-

ernmental Organization (NGO), which is in-volved in raising various issues of the residents of Ulwe and Navi Mumbai, have threatened to stage protest at Bamandongiri station on Sunday 24th January, 2021 if local trains for general public are not started soon.

Presently, the railway authori-ties are allowing only the essential service providers along with wom-en to board trains on scheduled time. Recently, the lawyers too have been allowed to use the local trains. The resi-dents feel that the local train services should be started for general public as well.

Vikrant Bhandari, a social activist from Navi Mumbai and a resident of Ulwe said, "The gen-eral public have waited long for the local trains to start but now their pa-

tience is over. We have been hearing from the first week of September that the local trains will be started for all very soon. But even now, general public is not al-lowed to board local trains. As the number of commuters are high, the BEST and NMMT buses are running to the full capacity. If all the activi-

ties have resumed opera-tion, why the local trains are allowed for only few selected people?"

Bhandari added, "We have planned to stage protest in front of Bamandongiri station on Sunday 24th January, 2021. We appeal and re-quest the citizens to join us in our protest and de-mand for the resumption

of local train services for all. Together we can pressurise the railway authorities and also the state government to take positive step in starting local trains for all.”

Arun Srivastava, a resident of Sector-8, Ulwe said, "For me trav-elling by bus and Ola is becoming an expensive affair. Like other citi-

zens, I am also ea-gerly waiting for the train services to resume for the general public. Already the pan-demic has broken our spending ca-pacity and now the travelling ex-penses is burning hole in our pock-

et. The state government should take the call to start the local train for general public at the earliest. The railway au-thorities and government should together discuss and come up with a sys-tem to manage the crowd at the railway stations and also inside the trains if the local trains are per-mitted for all."

Police Commissioner Bipin Kumar Singh said that it was impossible to regulate traffic without the participation of the citizens. He also urged the citizens to abide by the traffic rules and co-operate in making the city accident free.

Purushottam Karad, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, said, “Road Safety campaign is being implemented to make the society acci-dent free.”

Airports, world over, are being devel-

oped as economic hubs and are increasingly being recognized as gateways to regional development. With an aim to harness the potential of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) as an economic engine, the City and Industrial Development Corpo-ration (CIDCO) has decided to develop a modern aerocity, abut-ting NMIA, covering an area of about 270 hectares.

“We have completed the land acquisition process for aerocity, as of now, and have divided the land into four pockets. We intend to develop the aerocity in conjunction with the NMIA and plan it to be

synergistic with it and holistic to our vision for the Navi Mumbai project,” said Dr. San-jay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman and Manag-ing Director, CIDCO.

The aerocity is being planned to ac-commodate financial services, corporate offices, export oriented services, aero centric warehousing along with hotels, hospitals, residential and enter-tainment facilities, generating an employ-

In the recent past, road accidents involving two wheeler riders are

increasing at an alarming pace all over the place. While rash driving, violation of traffic rules etc. are the prime reasons for the increase in the road accidents, driving after consuming liquor is another major cause, which has not been seriously considered till now.

Long smooth stretches like the Palm Beach Marg allow the drivers to push the accelerators just for the thrill. The desire becomes stronger, especially amongst youngsters, af-ter getting tipsy, or in the company of friends. It is seen that usually whenever there is serious accident, one of the drivers is in drunken state. So far, in the absence of prop-er equipment, the RTO officials were unable to penalize the offend-ers. Now equipped with breath ana-lyzers, the task has become easier. These drives should be conducted periodically especially at strategic locations. If implemented strictly, it would help in curbing the tendency to drive after consuming liquor.

Along with stringent measures against drunken drivers, the RTO should also initiate action for not wearing helmets. While the All India Road Safety Programme Implementation Committee set up by MOST, has recommended use of helmets as mandatory for two wheeler drivers, it has not been se-

riously implemented. The use of helmets mitigates to

a large extent the fatality of the ac-cidents. It is difficult to understand why this is not being followed by the motorists themselves when the rule has been framed for their own safety? Probably, it is the tendency to defy rules, which forces us not to follow rules and regulations. Ear-lier, rules of compulsory wearing of seat belts while driving four wheel-ers or prohibiting talking on mobile phones while driving, also could not be implemented strictly due to callous nature of the motorists and the enforcing authorities. It is high-ly essential that in view of the rising accidents, the motorists themselves realize the gravity of drunken driv-ing and the peril of not wearing helmets. The authorities on their part, should continue their drives as these would help in instilling traffic discipline amongst the motorists. Only traffic discipline coupled with safety devices such as helmets and seat belts can save precious lives. Further, the proposal of the RTO to install electronic message boards is a good step. This would not only help in curbing traffic congestion by guiding the motorists to avoid taking the routes with traffic bottle-necks, but with the display of social messages would discourage the mo-torists from driving after taking a booze.

Khadi activities got a major push during the last year that largely

remained affected due to the Covid-19 lockdown, thanks to a huge purchase order worth Rs 48.90 crore from the Indian Railway. While the railways purchased Khadi goods worth Rs 8.48 crore in December 2020 alone; it sub-stantially created employment and income for Khadi artisans during the testing times of Covid-19.

The purchase orders from Indian Railways directly benefited arti-sans registered with 82 Kha-di Institutions across the country that are engaged in production of mate-rial like sheeting cloth, towels, bed sheet, flag banner, sponge clothes, Dosuti Cotton Khadi, bunting clothes and oth-ers.

During the period from May 2020 to December 2020 (till December 21), Indian Railways procured Khadi material worth Rs 48.90 crore which kept Khadi activities going during the pandemic. Interestingly, Indian Rail-ways purchased goods worth Rs 19.80 crore from Khadi in the months of May and June when the economy had taken a severe hit due to lockdown. Similarly, railways procured Khadi goods worth Rs 7.42 crore in July

and August while it purchased Khadi products worth Rs 13.01 crore in the months of October and November.

KVIC Chairman, Vinai Kumar Saxena thanked Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal for supporting Khadi ar-tisans by placing large orders to KVIC. “During the pandemic, KVIC faced the biggest challenge of sustaining employment and livelihood of the arti-sans. While KVIC engaged its artisans in making Khadi masks during the pandemic; it simultaneously received

bulk orders from the railways too that kept Khadi’s spin-

ning wheel on the move. This meant additional employment and income for the artisans which helped them overcome the financial distress

and support the country's economy,” Saxena said. Apart from supporting

Khadi through direct purchases, Railways have also implemented pol-icy decisions to strengthen Khadi arti-sans. In one such move, Railways have designated 400 railway stations where only earthenware is used for selling food and beverages to passengers and thus a major boost to the potters trained by KVIC under Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana. The Railway Ministry is in the process of notifying another 100 rail-way stations as “Plastic-free Stations”.

ment potential of 2 to 3 lakhs. Considering the height limitation due to the closeness of the air-port, the total built up area is expected to be about 50 million sq.ft. The infrastructure will be planned and devel-oped as state-of-the art facilities for Smart cities.

“Cities worldwide are unlocking the latent development potential in surrounding proper-ties, leveraging local assets and regional eco-nomic strengths, and uniquely positioning their airports as passen-ger hubs, cargo hubs,

or ‘value added’ hubs. The aerocity in Navi Mumbai will be devel-oped keeping in mind the requirements of the passengers, export houses, warehousing needs etc. Passengers, who are coming to city for a short period, need not come to the main city at all and can stay in the aerocity itself. This cuts down on travel time and makes it convenient and eco-nomical for them,” said Geetha Ajit Pillai, Proj-ect Director (Corporate Projects) & Airport I/c.

Once developed, the aerocity will be one of the central attractions of the city, with round the clock activities.

The concept plan has been finalised and a detailed master plan along with a detailed design of the facilities, financial assessment, marketing plans will be taken up shortly.

“The state govern-ment has brought out a uniform development control rules, which is almost similar to the global floor space index. The same will be followed while develop-ing the aerocity. Fur-ther, utility ducts will be provided to ensure that roads are not dug whenever maintenance is required and the resi-dents are not inconve-nienced,” said a senior official from CIDCO.

NMMT submitted its nomination for its ITMS system.

NMMT has devel-oped a state-of-the-art ITMS project under which a command & control centre have been set up at the headquar-ters at CBD, Belapur.

More than 500 buses of the transport wing, as well as depots at Turbhe, Asudgaon and Ghansoli and 14 control rooms are directly connected with this central con-trol room through GPS

system. The system provides proper control over NMMT buses ply-ing on a daily basis as well as drivers.

“The main objec-tive of ITMS is to man-age and plan the traffic, based on the informa-tion analysis received, thus providing a passen-ger-oriented, timely and reliable service. Under this project, 'mobile e-ticket' and 'multipurpose new smart card' services have been launched. This makes the service of the transport proj-ect more useful to the passengers. The exact

timing of the air-condi-tioned and general buses on all the routes oper-ated under the system is being made available to the passengers through a separate mobile app called NMMT bus track-er. This allows the buses to be connected via GPS with the location of each bus, bus arrival and de-parture times, bus track-ing in the mobile app as well as the message of which bus you are trav-eling in,” said Aradwad.

Currently, more than one lakh passengers are using this mobile app service.

People have used ginger in cooking and medi-

cines since ancient times. It is a popular home remedy for nausea, stomach pain and other health issues.

Ginger is a flower-ing plant that originated in South-east Asia. It is among the healthiest (and most delicious) spices on the planet.

It belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, and it’s closely related to tur-meric, cardamom, and galangal.

The rhizome (underground part of the stem) is the part commonly used as a spice. It is often called gin-ger root or, simply, ginger.

Ginger can be used fresh, dried, powdered, or as an oil or juice. It is a very common ingredient in recipes.

Ginger is one spice that is highly under-rated all over the world. We know that it is a great spice for meals, and is used for the famous gin-ger tea, ginger-bread, and the like, but some people don’t know how much of a big deal it is.

Nutr i t ion-ists have often asked us to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, but some might have failed to mention that spices like ginger are unbelievably healthy. Hence, we should add them to the vegetables and other healthy things that we eat daily.

Ginger is a strong spice with great taste and lots of medicinal value. It has been used to cure lots of ailments and health conditions for many centuries. It is a nutrient-dense spice that contains lots of vita-mins, minerals, and components like shogaol, gingerol, and zingiberene. It is an immune booster, improves brain functions, and has anti-diabet-ic functions.

Shogaol is a cancer-preventive substance, and its analgesic powers also protect one against heart dis-eases.

Gingerol reduces inflammation and other swellings in the joints and body. Its bio-active functions include reducing nausea and vomit-ing, especially as it concerns morn-ing sickness.

Zingiberene is the substance re-sponsible for the typical ginger fla-vour, and it supports digestion.

There are several benefits asso-ciated with eating ginger. The more

often you eat this spice, the more benefits your body gets, and the healthier you become.

Eating ginger every day doesn’t mean chewing on a piece of ginger every day of the month. You can incor-porate small pieces of this

spice in your tea, meals and snacks.Ginger is a major content in ev-

ery traditional recipe for a cold or the flu. The powerful spice can help you recover from the precipice of a bad cold and protect you against catching one in the first place.

Ginger’s antioxidant and anti-in-flammatory properties boost the im-mune system and prevent you from catching some illnesses and viruses too.

Ginger also helps relieve men-strual pain and eating it every day may help make it easier for you

when it is that time of the month. Ginger works well to relieve abdomi-nal pains, so there is a lot to gain from this spice.

Ginger con-tains powerful anti-inflammatory properties that reduce symptoms re-lated to arthritis, reduce inflamma-tory elements in the blood, reduce swellings, and reduce other diseas-es’ risk.

If you suffer from constipation and painful bowel movement every time, then making ginger a part of your daily consumption can right the situation and help you make the process easier.

The components of ginger help reduce the triglycerides levels in the blood and protect you from ‘bad’ or LDL cholesterol. Taking ginger ev-ery day invariably saves you from inflamed arteries, heart attacks, and stroke.

Pregnant women, chemo pa-tients, and any other person who feels nauseous often can get relief by consuming ginger every day. Whether you opt to consume ginger tea, chew the spice directly, or place it in your meal, it will reduce your feelings of nausea in no time.

Ginger has components that work wonders to ease limb and muscle pain. If you suffer from recurring pains, eating ginger every day will gradu-ally ease the pain until it disappears.

installed at various junc-tions on the Palm Beach Marg. At several other places, synchronising work with the traffic signal system is being undertaken,” said Sunil Lad, executive engineer, electrical department, NMMC.

The project which will cost Rs. 50 lakhs is likely to be complete within two months.

In addition to this, NMMC is also paint-ing and illuminating the underpasses in Navi Mumbai and also under bridges on Sion- Panvel Highway, informed Mr. Lad.

The residents are in praise for this initiative. “Unlike the previous setting of traffic sig-nal lights, the current endeavour makes for improved traffic light visibility as the light parameter covers larger

surface area,” said Din-kar Shah, a resident of Nerul.

“LED traffic lights are also aesthetically appealing. The entire area lights up with the change in traffic lights. The underpasses have become extremely beau-tiful. NMMC is cer-tainly leaving no stones unturned in ensuring that it bags number one position in all aspects,” said Sudha Srinivas, a resident of Vashi.

In the 24 Gram Panchayat elections

(in two seats candidates were elected unop-posed) that were held in Panvel and Uran ta-luka, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) claims to have won in 13 Gram panchayats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claims victory in 11 Gram Panchayats. In Uran taluka gram panchayat, MVA won in four while BJP suc-ceeded in winning only in one Gram Panchayat.

Shiv-Sena senior leader and former MLA from Uran constituency, Manohar Bhoir said, "The people of Uran constituency have cho-sen the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray and have lauded his efforts in handling the situa-tion during the corona-virus pandemic. To win in four gram panchayat

out of the six, is really a big achievement for the MVA government. Even though gram panchayat elections are not based on party symbols but people have clearly shown their trust in the

leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. This is in-deed the biggest gain for Shiv-Sena. I think in the upcoming Navi Mumbai Municipal Cor-poration’s (NMMC) and Brihanmumbai Munici-pal Corportion’s (BMC) elections too, Shiv-Sena will perform better."

Earlier On Friday

15th January, 2021 poll-ing was held for 1,25,709 seats, for which nomina-tions were received from 3,56,221 candidates. A total of 2,41,598 candi-dates were in the race, post scrutiny and with-
