Maya Patel

Originally a religious dance performed during the festival of Navaratri. A dance of circles with sticks (dhandias)

Similar to Hindi film, this style of dance combines dancing and expressions also with prominent South Indian Movie industries, such as Tollywood. Songs are sung in Telugu, Tamil, Malyali, and Kannada.

Folk dances are performed on many occasions: religious, tribal and marital reasons. This year we really want to focus on traditional Rajasthani, Gujarati, and Punjabi folk styles of dancing.

“Filmy” - Typically dances are choreographed to popular Hindi music. It originates from Bollywood film industry, and combines a mixture of dancing and expressions.

Typically performed as a sacred/religious dance. Classical Dance has originated from both South and North India. Two examples are Bharatanatyam and Kathak.
