Sathya Sai Centre of Hurstville Stands for Universal Spirituality
The programs of Sathya Sai Centre of Hurstville are principally based on Universal Spiritual Principles, giving values to Human Values in our every thought, word and deed and thereby harmonising these three into One known as Truth. This unity in turn can give rise to the unity and peace on our earth and beyond.
One of the main programs of the Centre is Sai Spiritual Education which can help us to live in unconditional love. A good proportion of our Sai Spiritual Education is presented through Interactive Spiritual Workshops. Efforts are made to implement the knowledge gained, in our group activities and in our personal daily activities in life such as selfless service to needy people in the environment.
The five human values — when practiced with integrity — render good character which transforms the chaotic society into one of peace, harmony and vision.
Human Values in ac-on - Fiji Medical Camps -
By Anil Patel Anil Patel is an active member of Sathya Sai Centre of Hurstville. He has often volunteered to accompany the Sai Medical Team to serve in Fiji. He tells us about some of his spiritual experiences which he gained and would like to share them with others. Patel believes that practising the teachings of Divine Master, Sathya Sai Baba on seva, is the highest kind of devotion or worship of God. Needless to say he endeavours to practice spirituality on this path of seva and quotes:
“Man can justify himself and prove his claim to be worthy individual only through Seva (service), undertaken sincerely, selflessly and with no thought of worldly reward. Seva is the only path to Self-realisation. It is the highest expression of the sacrifice love involves. You have to expand yourselves in Seva, unto the very last breath. You cannot retire after certain years of Seva or when you reach a certain age. When you have such a Lord and Master, there should be no dearth of Sevaks (servants). The servants are the glory of the Lord.” - Baba. (Continued on next page)

(Continued from previous page) For almost a decade now, Sai Medical Unit of the Sathya Sai International Organisation of Australia has been providing yearly Sai Medical Camps to the needy people of Fiji, a small nation but a blooming hub of the South Pacific.
Usually a team of around 50 dedicated Sai devotees from Australia includes medical practitioners and volunteers. Apart from this, a group of around 40 local Fijian medical students and nurses join the Australiam team and provide their local medical experience experties side by side. The main objective of the team is to provide medical services to remote areas of Fiji where accessibility to Hospital or Health Centres are scarsely possible due to their rural village style living.
On arrival at any of the pre-allocated Camp – usually a school, the team witnesses scores of people of all background and works of life eagerly waiting for medical services to commence. A number of them would walk or travel by other transports for miles, in order to take this opportunity to acquire professional medical free services. Such a typical day in their life starts with a multifaith prayer. After that the medical team moves into action. (START THE DAY WITH LOVE)
Hundreds who queue in order to register themselves and follow the queue to the Triage, are then in the process of being provided consultations. What amazes me is the PATIENCE and LOVE that flows in all parts of the Camp, and let me relate some of my experiences.
The medical team’s love is so forthcoming that the people waiting forget the hours that they may have travelled and waited. They start smiling, singing and cannot comprehend how so many medical providers have come from abroad, giving up their time, money and energy in order to provide the needed medical services to them.
Moving around the camp from each medical unit to the next, what is prevalent is the loving, caring and tremendous patience shown by the members of the medical team who take all the time to ensure that the patients are adequately attended to.
Have no desires to place before GOD, whatever HE does with you, however HE treats you, is the gift that HE likes best to give you! - Sathya Sai Baba

Most of the patients who have provided me with feedbacks over the years have similar experiences. They were listened to, lovingly attended to with all the compassion and care and respect for them. They were treated accordingly and medication was provided wherever necessary depending on its availability. Medications are the voluntary donations from Sai devotees in Australia at Sai centres and groups level.
Some years ago, at the medical service camp, during the month
of Ramzan, an elderly Fakir (a poor man) came up tome and said:
“For all the loving services the medical team has provided, I have got nothing to give you in return. However I am a singer and can I sing you a song?“
I obliged. He pulled a chair and sat down and asked me to sit on his lap. He then sang a Qawali. There was tears flowing from his eyes. The people who were listening his Qawali, were also in tears. Hence the DAY ENDED WITH LOVE.
At the end of the medical service day the medical team, though so tired, but in full spiritual spirit characterises itself by packing all the equipment, loading them into the carrier, thanking the School Management for facilities provided. The bus awaits all the hardworking medical team members to board and heads back to the resting camp. But before retiring for the night, the medical team prepares itself for the following day. In the bus what I witness are a tired bunch of loving, blissful, medical team having thoroughly tested for their Human Values in the services that they provided.

The Guru is the physician for the illness which brings about the suffering of alternate birth and death. He is an adept at the treatment needed for the cure. If you do not get such a Guru, pray to the Lord Himself to show you the way . . . and He will surely come to your rescue.

Naan bread
Quick and easy to make. Simple naan breads, flavoured with garlic and fresh coriander leaves.
Ingredients needed: For the dough
• 250g plain flour • 2 tsp sugar • ½ tsp salt • ½ tsp baking powder • 110-130ml fullcream milk • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus extra for greasing
For the topping • Poppy seeds or sesame seeds, or chopped garlic and fresh coriander • 1 tbsp butter, melted, to serve
Preparation method 1. For the dough, sift the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder into a bowl. 2. In another bowl, mix together the milk and the oil.3. Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture (1).4. Pour the liquid mixture into the well (2). 5. Slowly mix together for the dough by working from the centre and
incorporating the flour from the edges of the well, to make a smooth and soft dough.
6. Knead thoroughly for 8-10 minutes, adding a little flour if the dough is too sticky.
7. Place the dough into a preferably oiled bowl, cover with a damp tea-towel/cloth and leave it in a warm place for 10-15 minutes.
8. Divide the dough into five balls.9. Preheat the grill to medium and place a heavy baking sheet on the upper
shelf of the grill to heat.10. Roll the dough balls out quite thinly, ideally in a teardrop shape.11. Sprinkle over your chosen topping and press into the surface of the dough.12. Place the naans onto the hot baking sheet and grill for just 1-2 minutes, or
until lightly browned. 13. Brush with butter and serve hot with or without any curry/source
combination.
