Join B and work in rib for 2 rows. Repeat from * once (8 rows). Change to larger needles and A, continue in St st until piece measures 14 1/2 ( 15 1/2, 16 1/2)" from beg. On WS, bind off 19 (21, 25) sts for shoulder, wk across 26 (28, 28) sts and place on holder. Bind off remaining 19 (21, 25) sts for shoulder.

Front:

With smaller needles and A, cast on 64 ( 70, 78) sts. * Wk in K1 P1 rib for 2 rows. Join B and work in rib for 2

rows. Repeat from * once (8 rows).

Change to larger needles and continue in B and work across 64 st Chart Pattern #1. ( for larger sizes follow

Chart and work 4 (6) rows B, and extend 6 (14) st in pattern at beg. When 69 rows of Chart #1 is complete,

continue in A until piece measures 12 (13, 14)"from beg.

neck shaping: On RS, K 27 ( 29, 33) sts, join second ball of yarn and bind off center 10 ( 12, 12 ) sts, wk to

end. Work both sides at once, bind off 3 sts from each neck edge once, 2 sts once, then decrease 1 st every

other row 3x . Wk even until piece measures 14 1/2 (15 1/2, 16 1/2)" from beg. Bind off remaining 19 ( 21,

25) sts for each shoulder.

Sleeves:

With smaller needles and A, cast on 34 ( 36, 36 ) sts. Wk in K1, P 1 rib for 2 rows. Join B and work in rib for 2

rows. Repeat from* once (8 rows). Change to larger needles and join A , continue in St st and increase 4 sts

evenly across row #1, 38 (40, 40 ) sts. AT SAME TIME: Increase 1 st at each side every 6th row until 58 (62,

66) sts are reached. Work even until piece measures 11 1/2 ( 12, 12 1/2)" from beg. Bind off on WS.

Finishing:

Sew left shoulder seam.

Neckband:

With RS facing, with smaller needles and A, pick up and K 72 ( 74, 74 ) sts evenly around neck. Wk in k1, P1

rib for 7 rows. Bind off in rib. Sew 2nd shoulder and neckband seam. Mark 5 3/4 ( 6 1/4, 6 1/2) " down from

shoulder at each armhole edge. ( follow stripe color as indicated in photo.) Sew top of sleeve at armhole

edge between markers. Sew remaining side and sleeve seams.

Penguin Pocket:

With larger needles and C, cast on 12 sts. Work across 21 st Chart Pattern #2. When 34 rows of Chart

pattern #2 is complete, bind off on WS. AT SAME TIME: Work band of 4 sts in seed st along straight edge for

entire pocket . Place pocket as indicated on chart.

With strand of B and C, corresponding, chain st around pocket edge, leaving side open.

Eye:

With embroidery needle and black thread, attach button as indicated on chart.

Skate:

With strand of D and embroidery needle, chain st as indicated on chart.

Beak:

With strand of E and embroidery needle, for chain st around beak.

Bow Tie:

With smaller needle and D, cast on 6 sts and work in seed st until piece measures 1 3/4". Bind off on WS.

Wrap yarn around center and tack on top of pocket at neck as indicated.
