wage a war against the almighty.

Hell Receives Defeated Angels

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my

throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon

the mount of the congregation, in the sides

of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I

will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides

of the pit.

Satan Rises From the Burning LakeSatan rises up to claim hell as his own domain and delivers a rousing speech to his followers

("Better to reign in hell, than serve in heav'n"). The logic of Satan (Satanic Logic) is introduced by: "The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven."

So stretched out huge in length the Arch-fiend lay,Chained on the burning lake; nor ever thenceHad risen, or heaved his head, but that the willAnd high permission of all-ruling HeavenLeft him at large to his own dark designs,

Satan Speaks to His Legions

For who can yet believe, though after loss,

That all these puissant legions, who exile

Hath emptied heav’n

Satan still wants to battle for his belief in his right of power. He speaks to his followers and is angry that they have been casted out of heaven. He calls for a meeting with all the demons at

his Palace.

Here Beelezub tells Satan of a new world being built by God. This new world is to be home to man.

Satan Holds Court in HellSatan begins to organize his followers andnames Mammon and Beelzub as his

lieutenants. It is decided here that Satan will poison the newly created Earth.

As Satan journeys to Earth, he sees sin and death at the

gates of hell. Sin was born through a burst

of flame out of Satans forehead before he began his

war with God.
