    Introduction

    In the Bachelors Degree Course we learnt that thefour important factor of a library are the documents,User, Staff and the Equipment within a building. We

    can not imagine a library with all modern equipmentand well trained staff but with no information record.We also learnt that in modern times usefulinformation is available not only in the traditionaltype of documents like Books and Periodicals but inother formats like Audio-Visual Material,Microforms, Plans, Maps, Models, Manuscripts,Pamphlets, etc.

    Collection Development in a Library Therefore

    would mean Building up and Improving the

    collection in that library. Earlier Librarians were

    concerned merely with acquisition andPreservation of Reading Material.

    Collection Development Implies selection,

    acquisition and evolution of the Library

    Collection in order to see that both print and

    non-print Material that are available in a Library.
