“A Night at the Oscars”MALTA – Rob Edelman and Audrey Kupferberg will present “A Night at the Oscars” at the Round Lake Library, Malta Branch on Thursday, February 21 at 6:30pm. Rob Edelman teaches film history courses at SUNY Albany. He is a film commentator on WAMC Northeast Public Radio, a Contributing Editor of Leon-ard Maltin’s Movie Guide and several other Maltin publications. Audrey Kupferberg is the Director of the Film Studies Minor at SUNY Albany. She is also a film and video consultant, archivist and appraiser, and has been Director of the Yale Film Study Center and Assistant Director of the National Center for Film and Video presentation at the American Film Institute. She is a film commentator on WAMC Northeast Pub-lic Radio. The program will consist of a brief history of the Oscars, but emphasis will be on” the politics” of the Academy Awards. Why are some actors, direc-tors and movies nominated and not others. There will be opportunity for questions. Community Volunteer ExpoBALLSTON SPA – Ballston Spa Rotary is sponsoring a Community Volunteer Expo for residents of the Ballston Spa area on Sunday, February 24 from noon to 4 pm at BACC gymnasium, 20 Malta Ave. in the village. Over two dozen community groups will take part, offering volunteer opportunities to those who want to be more involved in their community. The Expo is designed as a celebration of community giving and seeks to attract citizens of all ages and walks of life for whom traditional routes to volunteering are not available. Church Program Features Fr. Donald CallowayROUND LAKE – Corpus Christi Church in Clifton Park will host Father Donald Calloway, MIC, on Tuesday evening, February 12. During this evening of reflec-tion, Father Calloway will describe his life before the priesthood and how very much it has changed. In his book “No Turning Back: A Witness to Mercy,” he described his life as a destructive youth, succumbing to temptations large and small. He ran the gamut of experimentation with drugs, theft, etc. He described himself as an “animal,” an angry and rebellious youth. This high school dropout eventually found God and the priesthood. His remarkable journey has brought him to his present life of helping others. The evening will begin at 6:30pm in the Church on February 12. A Mardi Gras celebration will follow in the church hall, where Father Calloway will share in fellowship with those present. Free Online Tax ServiceWARREN COUNTY – This year the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) has added a free do-it-yourself state and federal income tax online ser-vice. Individuals and families with annual incomes under $57,000 are eligible for this free online service. To access this program go to http://counties.cce.cor-nell.edu/warren/ and click on the My Free Taxes logo. This will direct you to the online tax service where you can file. Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe Event RescheduledGANSEVOORT – The January 26 Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe event at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park is being postponed until Saturday, February 23 due to the lack of sufficient snowfall. The popular event will be moved to the back-up date of Saturday, Febru-ary 23. All other aspects of the free event will remain the same. On February 23rd the event will begin at 6pm from the Scout Road entrance to Camp Sara-toga and run until 9:30pm. Drop in anytime during the event and participate free of charge, but donations will be graciously accepted at the information table in the Winter Lodge. There will be two miles of groomed trails lit by luminaries, and there will be bonfires and free hot chocolate. Snowshoes will be available for rent on a first come/first served basis beginning at 5:30pm in the International Paper Winter Lodge that will be set up as a warming hut and information cen-ter. Wagging their Tails for Tales: Therapy Dog Program CLIFTON PARK – Reading to Therapy Dogs will be held Thursday, February 14 from 4-5pm at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library, upstairs in the Children’s Library. Children can read to the therapy dogs for

NR-1 America’s Inner Space ShuttleCLIFTON PARK – Retired engineer Ray Misiewcz will talk about the NR-1 Program at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library on Friday, February 15. The NR-1 was the world’s only nuclear powered deep submergence ocean engineering and research sub-marine. Ray Misiewicz’s talk tells her story from Admi-ral Rickover’s initial idea, through construction and shakedown and into the world of covert operations and scientific discovery. Victorian Tea PartyBALLSTON SPA – The Saratoga County Historical So-ciety has announced that a Victorian Tea Party will be held on Wednesday, February 20. Sue McLane, the Victorian Lady, will guide children through a cel-ebration of Victorian culture, learning about clothing, manners and pastimes. The children will also plan, prepare, and enjoy a traditional tea party. Games and craft activities will also be included. The Victorian Tea Party will be offered twice; first from 10am-12pm and second from 1-3pm. The program is best suited for children ages 6 through 14. Parents are welcome to participate, but are asked to pay the program fee. The cost is $10 per person ($8 for SCHS Members) and includes food and craft materials.
