A Few Words From Our PresidentBill Davis

Well, it’s that time of year again. The snowbirds have headed north for thesummer and we are left here to sweat it out. We wish them well and a safejourney and hopefully all our PrimeTimers will return home and ready to getinvolved.

We have had some great ideas turned in by some of our group. So if youhaven’t done your part and turned in a survey, please do so.

The monthly luncheon’s for May was a success. Both luncheons have had avery good turn out. Let’s keep it up and even try to improve for our Juneluncheons.

Some of the other things that are in the planning stage are a potluck, HardRock Casino trip as well as other activities. So please get involved!

We had canceled the May Board meeting that was scheduled for May 8th.Some of the board members were out of town and there was not a greaturgency going on that required the meeting. We did however change theBoard meeting in June from the 12th to June 5th. All members are invited toattend the meeting, which will take place at 1pm instead of our normal 11amat Pierce Hall, Trinity, MCC.

Charles Tramer, Member of the Month

I was born and raised in New Jersey and moved to Sarasota with Frank in2007. We purchased the lot and ordered the house to be built in 2005.

We joined Prime Timers that same year, May of 2007. We met manywonderful and interesting people in Sarasota Prime timers.

In 2008, I was elected as Secretary of Sarasota Prime Timers and have servedin that capacity since that time. I will coordinate our Holiday Functions and SpringFlings when requested by the Board of Directors.

My background has always been in the “secretarial field”. I began workingwhen I was 18 years old in the steno pool of the Newark City Clerk’s office in NewJersey where I was employed for nine years. I write both Greg Shorthand and use theStenograph (Court Reporter’s Machine).

Around 1967 I decided that I needed to advance further and enrolled in CourtReporting School and was licensed as a Certified Shorthand Reporter in 1970. Iattended Court Reporting School two nights per week while working full time.

During my career, I served as Secretary, Treasurer, President-Elect andPresident of the New Jersey Court Reporters Association for many years, and thenserved for 18 years on the New Jersey State Board of Court Reporting in the Divisionof Consumer Affairs, licensing Court Reporters, 14 of those years as Chairperson. Myexpertise, if you will, was in testing and licensing court reporters both on a State andNational level. I retired from the State of New Jersey as the Supervising CourtReporter for Essex County with 35 years of service in 2002. I then worked for a largeprivately owned Court Reporting Firm as an H.R. Director and Operations Managerfor two more years, then retired when we decided to relocate to Sarasota.

In addition to serving as Secretary of Sarasota Prime Timers, I currentlyserve as Secretary, Treasurer and Chair of the Architectural Review Committee of ourlocal home owners’ association. I enjoy “making a record” which is what is call a“transcript” or minutes. Together with Frank, I look forward too being a SarasotaPrime Timer for many years to come.

Ted Baldwin, an early, long-time member of Prime Timers passed away Saturday, May 5th.Ted served as a host for Prime Timer events at his home, particularly demonstrating his love ofopera. Ted was also an avid reader. There are no plans as of now for a memorial service. Hewill be interred in New York.
