Sapa is a town of Lao Cai province in the north mountains, located at an altitude of 1500m - 1600m in Lo Suay Tong slopes. Sapa center is 37km from Lao Cai city southwest, on highway 4D from Lai Chau to Lao Cai.

Sapa has an average altitude of 1200m - 1800m, also has tilt and sloping terrain in the southwest to the northeast. The highest point is 3143m high peak Fansipan and the lowest high is Bo spring 400m above sea level.

The average temperature in the summer 18-20 degrees C, 10-12 degrees C in the winter. Weather is quite cold, fog shrouded many towns, the occasional snowfall.

If you go to Sapa in summer, you can get involved in Nao Cong festival held on the 6th lunar month every year.

Sa Pa is not only famous land by beautiful natural scenery, the fresh cool climate, but also is home to many dishes flavor mountains as the town pork and fresh vegetables, Sapa ‘s sturgeon,... many tourists are particularly preferred.

You can go to Sapa by three ways:

By train: From Hanoi it is a 9-hour train journey to Sapa. Ticket prices for a bed is 430k – 525k. For a soft seat, expect to pay 220k for one-way. The train ends at Lao Cai. From there, dozens of shuttle buses will be waiting outside the station to take you the remaining distance to Sapa, usually at a 'fixed' rate of 50,000 dong. The ride is about an hour of beautiful views (if the weather is good, it may be an hour of fog at other times) more than 1000 meters up into the mountains.

By bus: Bus station in Sapa is in the centre, near the lake. Sleeping buses to Hanoi cost 300000 dong . Most buses you can book through travel agents for almost the same price.

By motorcycles, bikes: Sapa can also be reached by motorcycle from Hanoi by a variety of routes. The most direct route takes at least ten hours for first time riders. Bikes can be rented in Hanoi for unguided passage, or local guides can lead the way. Along the way be sure to top up with fuel regularly, as petrol stations sometimes prove few and far between.

A near-endless supply of cheap rooms are available in the touristy area down the hill from the town centre. In Sapa town, there are many hotels, motels that you can stay there. The price of one night is about 200k – 600k/room.
