Solution Enhancements Key Benefits

Catalog Services

The Plant Information Catalog

– PIC provides business context to the tags and

their data by interfacing to the tag data servers

in a generic way. Because of the vendor

agnostic system connectivity provided by both

the MII and PCo products, levels in this

hierarchy can be queried for data using

standard MII Queries or Services. This is ideal

for the SAP EAM solution to acquire

“Measurement Point” exception data to

support the Condition-Based Maintenance

solution.

Central and/or Distributed Instances – as

suitable for customers

PLANNED INNOVATIONS

Single design time catalog for multiple shop floor

systems across plants and vendors – useful for

Business Users

The whole catalog is managed through change

management

The catalog data consumptions and

administration are accessible through web

services and can be used to develop custom

composite applications

PIC Query Template and an PIC Query Action for

Native MII Consumption

Tag data points support the definition of

additional Properties

What is Tag Governance?

Administration versus Taxonomy

TAG ADMINISTRATION Defining a process for users to discover, create, and use historian data

TAG TAXONOMY Tag Catalog will contain the supporting details for a tag

Guiding Principles for Tag Governance

■ Common standard to discover tags Different sources of tags?

Need for tags?

Need for yellow pages for process around tags…

■ Common standard to maintain tags

Many means of creating and maintaining tags?

Spread sheets, vendor tools?

Notification of changes?

Impact of changes to tags?

■ Common standard to find usage of tags

Where used?

Application dependency and impact analysis

Reusability of tags

Visibility of Target, Planned, Operations Limits, Design Limits

Tags and The Plant Information Catalog

Tags are the name identifiers of the data that is stored within

the historian Name for physical addresses in registers tied to equipment sensors

Tag Governance will maintain the Tags that are used by

applications and their associated properties Identifies tags that are no longer active

Searchable for tags based on properties and other “type” information

Property information will be stored in Tag Catalog Database Provides a common business naming convention across multiple tag systems

What’s Included – Service Scope Successfully deploy in as little as 8 weeks

The initial implementation is based on a limited

project scope with key knowledge transfer that can be

rapidly expanded by the customer across the

enterprise. The scope includes single site, limited

number of areas, users, and materials. The

assumption is that production planning and materials

management in SAP ERP 6.0 Enhancement Package

5 are used for management of materials, BOMs, and

orders. The implementation focuses on Build to Stock

or Build to Order environments utilizing Production

Orders or Repetitive Orders.

Key Implementation Parameters:

Implementation Options:

– Option A: Single, End-Product with a Multi-Level BOM

– Option B: Multiple Products with common production process,

location, single-level BOM

Common non-conformance repair processes with

limited codes

Optional: Limited OPC machine integration (10

machines, 10 Tags)

A special step-by-step guide describes each activity

during the deployment
