The BW Modeling Tools are now available for the SAP customers who use BW on HANA.

Solution

Important information      This note is only an abstract ( quick installation ) description of the BW Modeling Tools installation. For a detailed documentation please go through the corresponding documents which is given below.

1. SAP HANA Studio  --> See note 2123714 (SPS 08) or 2121080 (SPS 09).     Please note that the Java Runtime is already included in the SAP HANA Studio installation package. 2. ABAP Development Tools --> See note 2126477 (2.41). 3. BW Modeling Tools -->  http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001144122013E

Data preview feature

The BW Modeling Tools provides a data preview feature which requires a configured HTTPS service on the SAP BW server. Please check note 517484 for further details regarding the activation of the service. Installation Steps For a step by step installation basically 3 components are needed.   1. SAP HANA Studio   2. ABAP Development Tools   3. BW Modeling tools

1. SAP HANA Studio

SAP HANA Studio must be installed as the first step. In general it's recommended to install the latest SAP HANA Studio revision that is supported by the respective BW Modeling Tool version:

l For BW Modeling Tools version 1.6 install minimum revision 84 or higher  l For BW Modeling Tools version 1.7 install minimum revision 92 or higher 

Please note, it's not required that the HANA Studio revision is in sync with the HANA DB revision. It's only necessary to ensure that the used HANA Studio revision is equal or higher in comparison to the HANA DB revision.

The SAP HANA Studio can be downloaded from SAP's software marketplace at :  --> Go to https://support.sap.com/software/patches.html  --> Search with its technical name "SAP HANA STUDIO 2"  --> Select section "SAP HANA STUDIO 2"   --> Now select the platform : Linux on x86_64 64bit\Windows Server on IA32 32bit\Windows on x64 64bit

Windows related installation hint: Due to access restrictions of the Windows "Program Files" folder, it's strongly recommended to install the SAP HANA Studio into a different folder. Furthermore installation of additional Eclipse features, will possibly performed into a "shared" Eclipse folder and not into the specified installation folder of the SAP HANA Studio. This situation can cause negative side effects.

2. ABAP Development Tools (ADT)

Please make sure to install the below features in the HANA Studio before doing the ABAP development tools installation as given in the step 2.  In order to install these features please do as given below.

a. Start the SAP HANA Studio. b. Go to  Help --> Install new software c. Enter Eclipse Updatesite: <ReleaseName> - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/<ReleaseName> in the text box of Work with:

The name of the Eclipse release depends on the used SAP HANA Studio and it's already pre-configured. d. Remove the select option of "Group items by category" and select the below features one by one.

In case you cannot find features by searching on the Update Site, then may the features is already installed. For verification remove the selection for "Hide items that are already installed". Already installed features will appear as greyed out entries. Please consider to configure the proxy settings in HANA Studio, in case of connection problems. Depending on the environment, the Eclipse update site on the internet maybe only reached by a proxy server. For details please consult your local network administrator.

e. Complete the installation.

Now install the ABAP Development Tools for the Eclipse. In general it's recommended to install the latest version of the ABAP Development Tools that is available - SAP ABAP in Eclipse version 2.36 or higher.

The ABAP Development Tools can be downloaded from SAP's software marketplace at :  --> Go to https://support.sap.com/software/patches.html  --> Search with its technical name "SAP ABAP IN ECLIPSE".   --> Download the package and install it through Help --> Install New Software.  --> Make sure that you select the features below as a minimum.

l ABAP Core Development Tools For more information about ABAP tools please refer note  1950493.

Required permission on the SAP HANA BW instance. Please ensure that the user accounts on the SAP HANA BW instance have the required permissions as described in ABAP Development Tools guide.

3. BW Modeling Tools

Now install the latest version of the BW Modeling Tools.

The BW Modeling tools can be downloaded from the Service Marketplace as below.   --> Go to https://support.sap.com/software/patches.html   --> Search with its technical name " SAP BW MODELING TOOLS"   --> Download the package and install it through Help --> Install New Software.   --> Install all the features.

Check the latest note for the component BW-MT (BW Modeling Tools (Eclipse)) if it has to be applied for your BW system.
